1 E ntonces Elías, el tisbita, que era uno de los habitantes de Galaad, dijo a Acab: «¡Vive Jehová, Dios de Israel, en cuya presencia estoy, que no habrá lluvia ni rocío en estos años, hasta que mi boca lo diga!»

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, saith unto Ahab, `Jehovah, God of Israel, liveth, before whom I have stood, there is not these years dew and rain, except according to my word.'

2 L legó a él una palabra de Jehová, que decía:

And the word of Jehovah is unto him, saying,

3 « Apártate de aquí, vuelve al oriente y escóndete en el arroyo Querit, que está frente al Jordán.

`Go from this; and thou hast turned for thee eastward, and been hidden by the brook Cherith, that on the front of the Jordan,

4 B eberás del arroyo; yo he mandado a los cuervos que te den allí de comer.»

and it hath been, from the brook thou dost drink, and the ravens I have commanded to sustain thee there.'

5 É l partió e hizo conforme a la palabra de Jehová, pues se fue y vivió junto al arroyo Querit, que está frente al Jordán.

And he goeth and doth according to the word of Jehovah, yea, he goeth and dwelleth by the brook Cherith, that on the front of the Jordan,

6 L os cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana y por la tarde, y bebía del arroyo.

and the ravens are bringing to him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and of the brook he drinketh.

7 P asados algunos días, se secó el arroyo, porque no había llovido sobre la tierra. Elías y la viuda de Sarepta

And it cometh to pass, at the end of days, that the brook drieth up, for there hath been no rain in the land,

8 L uego llegó a Elías una palabra de Jehová, que decía:

and the word of Jehovah is unto him, saying,

9 « Levántate, vete a Sarepta de Sidón y vive allí; ahí le he dado orden a una mujer viuda que te sustente.»

`Rise, go to Zarephath, that to Zidon, and thou hast dwelt there; lo, I have commanded there a widow woman to sustain thee.'

10 E ntonces él se levantó y se fue a Sarepta. Cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, había allí una mujer viuda que estaba recogiendo leña. Elías la llamó y le dijo: —Te ruego que me traigas un poco de agua en un vaso para que beba.

And he riseth, and goeth to Zarephath, and cometh in unto the opening of the city, and lo there, a widow woman gathering sticks, and he calleth unto her, and saith, `Bring, I pray thee, to me, a little water in a vessel, and I drink.'

11 C uando ella iba a traérsela, él la volvió a llamar y le dijo: —Te ruego que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tus manos.

And she goeth to bring, and he calleth unto her and saith, `Bring, I pray thee, to me a morsel of bread in thy hand.'

12 E lla respondió: —¡Vive Jehová, tu Dios, que no tengo pan cocido!; solamente tengo un puñado de harina en la tinaja y un poco de aceite en una vasija. Ahora recogía dos leños para entrar y prepararlo para mí y para mi hijo. Lo comeremos y luego moriremos.

And she saith, `Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but the fulness of the hand of meal in a pitcher, and a little oil in a dish; and lo, I am gathering two sticks, and have gone in and prepared it for myself, and for my son, and we have eaten it -- and died.'

13 E lías le dijo: —No tengas temor: ve y haz como has dicho; pero hazme con ello primero una pequeña torta cocida debajo de la ceniza, y tráemela. Después la harás para ti y para tu hijo.

And Elijah saith unto her, `Fear not, go, do according to thy word, only make for me thence a little cake, in the first place, and thou hast brought out to me; and for thee and for thy son make -- last;

14 P orque Jehová, Dios de Israel, ha dicho así: “La harina de la tinaja no escaseará, ni el aceite de la vasija disminuirá, hasta el día en que Jehová haga llover sobre la faz de la tierra.”

for thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, The pitcher of meal is not consumed, and the dish of oil is not lacking, till the day of Jehovah's giving a shower on the face of the ground.'

15 L a viuda fue e hizo como le había dicho Elías. Y comieron él, ella y su casa, durante muchos días.

And she goeth, and doth according to the word of Elijah, and she eateth, she and he, and her household -- days;

16 N o escaseó la harina de la tinaja, ni el aceite de la vasija menguó, conforme a la palabra que Jehová había dicho por medio de Elías.

the pitcher of meal was not consumed, and the dish of oil did not lack, according to the word of Jehovah that He spake by the hand of Elijah.

17 D espués de estas cosas aconteció que cayó enfermo el hijo de la dueña de la casa. La enfermedad fue tan grave que se quedó sin aliento.

And it cometh to pass, after these things, the son of the woman, mistress of the house, hath been sick, and his sickness is very severe till that no breath hath been left in him.

18 E ntonces dijo ella a Elías: —¿Qué tengo que ver yo contigo, varón de Dios? ¿Has venido aquí a recordarme mis pecados y a hacer morir a mi hijo?

And she saith unto Elijah, `What -- to me and to thee, O man of God? thou hast come unto me to cause mine iniquity to be remembered, and to put my son to death!'

19 — Dame acá tu hijo —le dijo él. Lo tomó entonces Elías de su regazo, lo llevó al aposento donde él vivía y lo puso sobre su cama.

And he saith unto her, `Give to me thy son;' and he taketh him out of her bosom, and taketh him up unto the upper chamber where he is abiding, and layeth him on his own bed,

20 L uego clamó a Jehová diciendo: «Jehová, Dios mío, ¿también a la viuda en cuya casa estoy hospedado vas a afligir, haciendo morir su hijo?»

and crieth unto Jehovah, and saith, `Jehovah my God, also on the widow with whom I am sojourning hast Thou done evil -- to put her son to death?'

21 S e tendió sobre el niño tres veces y clamó a Jehová: «Jehová, Dios mío, te ruego que hagas volver el alma a este niño.»

And he stretcheth himself out on the lad three times, and calleth unto Jehovah, and saith, `O Jehovah my God, let turn back, I pray Thee, the soul of this lad into his midst;'

22 J ehová oyó la voz de Elías, el alma volvió al niño y éste revivió.

and Jehovah hearkeneth to the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the lad turneth back into his midst, and he liveth.

23 T omó luego Elías al niño, lo trajo del aposento a la casa, lo entregó a su madre y le dijo: —Mira, tu hijo vive.

And Elijah taketh the lad, and bringeth him down from the upper chamber of the house, and giveth him to his mother, and Elijah saith, `See, thy son liveth!'

24 E ntonces la mujer dijo a Elías: —Ahora reconozco que tú eres un varón de Dios y que la palabra de Jehová es verdad en tu boca.

And the woman saith unto Elijah, `Now, this I have known, that a man of God thou, and the word of Jehovah in thy mouth truth.'
