1 V erdad digo en Cristo, no miento, y mi conciencia me da testimonio en el Espíritu Santo,

Truth I say in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing testimony with me in the Holy Spirit,

2 q ue tengo gran tristeza y continuo dolor en mi corazón,

that I have great grief and unceasing pain in my heart --

3 p orque deseara yo mismo ser anatema, separado de Cristo, por amor a mis hermanos, los que son mis parientes según la carne;

for I was wishing, I myself, to be anathema from the Christ -- for my brethren, my kindred, according to the flesh,

4 q ue son israelitas, de los cuales son la adopción, la gloria, el pacto, la promulgación de la Ley, el culto y las promesas.

who are Israelites, whose the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the lawgiving, and the service, and the promises,

5 A ellos también pertenecen los patriarcas, de los cuales, según la carne, vino Cristo, el cual es Dios sobre todas las cosas, bendito por los siglos. Amén.

whose the fathers, and of whom the Christ, according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed to the ages. Amen.

6 N o que la palabra de Dios haya fallado, porque no todos los que descienden de Israel son israelitas,

And it is not possible that the word of God hath failed; for not all who of Israel are these Israel;

7 n i por ser descendientes de Abraham, son todos hijos suyos, sino: «En Isaac te será llamada descendencia.»

nor because they are seed of Abraham all children, but -- `in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee;'

8 E sto es: no son hijos de Dios los hijos según la carne, sino que son contados como descendencia los hijos según la promesa,

that is, the children of the flesh -- these not children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for seed;

9 p ues la palabra de la promesa es ésta: «Por este tiempo vendré y Sara tendrá un hijo.»

for the word of promise this; `According to this time I will come, and there shall be to Sarah a son.'

10 P ero no sólo esto, pues también Rebeca concibió de un solo hombre, de Isaac nuestro padre.

And not only, but also Rebecca, having conceived by one -- Isaac our father --

11 N o habían aún nacido, ni habían hecho aún ni bien ni mal (para que el propósito de Dios conforme a la elección permaneciera, no por las obras sino por el que llama),

(for they being not yet born, neither having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God, according to choice, might remain; not of works, but of Him who is calling,) it was said to her --

12 c uando Dios le dijo a Rebeca: «El mayor servirá al menor.»

`The greater shall serve the less;'

13 C omo está escrito: «A Jacob amé, mas a Esaú aborrecí.»

according as it hath been written, `Jacob I did love, and Esau I did hate.'

14 ¿ Qué, pues, diremos? ¿Que hay injusticia en Dios? ¡De ninguna manera!,

What, then, shall we say? unrighteousness with God? let it not be!

15 p ues a Moisés dice: «Tendré misericordia del que yo tenga misericordia y me compadeceré del que yo me compadezca.»

for to Moses He saith, `I will do kindness to whom I do kindness, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion;'

16 A sí que no depende del que quiere, ni del que corre, sino de Dios que tiene misericordia,

so, then -- not of him who is willing, nor of him who is running, but of God who is doing kindness:

17 p orque la Escritura dice al faraón: «Para esto mismo te he levantado, para mostrar en ti mi poder y para que mi nombre sea anunciado por toda la tierra.»

for the Writing saith to Pharaoh -- `For this very thing I did raise thee up, that I might shew in thee My power, and that My name might be declared in all the land;'

18 D e manera que de quien quiere, tiene misericordia, y al que quiere endurecer, endurece.

so, then, to whom He willeth, He doth kindness, and to whom He willeth, He doth harden.

19 P ero me dirás: «¿Por qué, pues, inculpa? ¿Quién ha resistido a su voluntad?»

Thou wilt say, then, to me, `Why yet doth He find fault? for His counsel who hath resisted?'

20 P ero tú, hombre, ¿quién eres, para que alterques con Dios? ¿Dirá el vaso de barro al que lo formó: «Por qué me has hecho así»?

nay, but, O man, who art thou that art answering again to God? shall the thing formed say to Him who did form, Why me didst thou make thus?

21 ¿ Acaso no tiene potestad el alfarero sobre el barro para hacer de la misma masa un vaso para honra y otro para deshonra?

hath not the potter authority over the clay, out of the same lump to make the one vessel to honour, and the one to dishonour?

22 ¿ Y qué, si Dios, queriendo mostrar su ira y hacer notorio su poder, soportó con mucha paciencia los vasos de ira preparados para destrucción?

And if God, willing to shew the wrath and to make known His power, did endure, in much long suffering, vessels of wrath fitted for destruction,

23 É l, para hacer notorias las riquezas de su gloria, las mostró para con los vasos de misericordia que había preparado de antemano para gloria.

and that He might make known the riches of His glory on vessels of kindness, that He before prepared for glory, whom also He did call -- us --

24 A estos también ha llamado, es decir, a nosotros, no sólo de los judíos, sino también de los gentiles.

not only out of Jews, but also out of nations,

25 C omo también en Oseas dice: «Llamaré pueblo mío al que no era mi pueblo, y a la no amada, amada.

as also in Hosea He saith, `I will call what not My people -- My people; and her not beloved -- Beloved,

26 Y en el lugar donde se les dijo: “Vosotros no sois pueblo mío”, allí serán llamados “hijos del Dios viviente”.»

and it shall be -- in the place where it was said to them, Ye not My people; there they shall be called sons of the living God.'

27 T ambién Isaías proclama acerca de Israel: «Aunque el número de los hijos de Israel fuera como la arena del mar, tan sólo el remanente será salvo,

And Isaiah doth cry concerning Israel, `If the number of the sons of Israel may be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved;

28 p orque el Señor ejecutará su sentencia sobre la tierra con justicia y prontitud.»

for a matter He is finishing, and is cutting short in righteousness, because a matter cut short will the Lord do upon the land.

29 Y como antes dijo Isaías: «Si el Señor de los ejércitos no nos hubiera dejado descendencia, como Sodoma habríamos venido a ser, y a Gomorra seríamos semejantes.» La justicia que es por fe

and according as Isaiah saith before, `Except the Lord of Sabaoth did leave to us a seed, as Sodom we had become, and as Gomorrah we had been made like.'

30 ¿ Qué, pues, diremos? Que los gentiles, que no iban tras la justicia, han alcanzado la justicia, es decir, la justicia que es por fe;

What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that of faith,

31 m ientras Israel, que iba tras una ley de justicia, no la alcanzó.

and Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, at a law of righteousness did not arrive;

32 ¿ Por qué? Porque iban tras ella no por fe, sino dependiendo de las obras de la Ley, de modo que tropezaron en la piedra de tropiezo,

wherefore? because -- not by faith, but as by works of law; for they did stumble at the stone of stumbling,

33 c omo está escrito: «He aquí pongo en Sión piedra de tropiezo y roca de caída; y el que crea en él, no será defraudado.»

according as it hath been written, `Lo, I place in Sion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence; and every one who is believing thereon shall not be ashamed.'
