1 T oda la congregación de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin avanzando por jornadas, conforme al mandamiento de Jehová, y acamparon en Refidim, donde no había agua para que el pueblo bebiera.

And all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;

2 Y disputó el pueblo con Moisés, diciéndole: —Danos agua para que bebamos. —¿Por qué disputáis conmigo? ¿Por qué tentáis a Jehová? —les respondió Moisés.

and the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'

3 A sí que el pueblo tuvo allí sed, y murmuró contra Moisés: —¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados?

and the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'

4 E ntonces clamó Moisés a Jehová, y dijo: —¿Qué haré con este pueblo? ¡Poco falta para que me apedreen!

And Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'

5 J ehová respondió a Moisés: —Pasa delante del pueblo y toma contigo algunos ancianos de Israel; toma también en tu mano la vara con que golpeaste el río, y ve.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:

6 A llí yo estaré ante ti sobre la peña, en Horeb; golpearás la peña, y saldrán de ella aguas para que beba el pueblo. Moisés lo hizo así en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.

Lo, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,

7 Y dio a aquel lugar el nombre de Masah y Meriba, por la rencilla de los hijos de Israel y porque tentaron a Jehová al decir: «¿Está, pues, Jehová entre nosotros o no?» La batalla contra Amalec

and he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'

8 D espués vino Amalec y peleó contra Israel en Refidim.

And Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

9 Y dijo Moisés a Josué: —Escoge a algunos hombres y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del collado con la vara de Dios en mi mano.

and Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'

10 J osué hizo como le dijo Moisés y salió a pelear contra Amalec. Moisés, Aarón y Hur subieron a la cumbre del collado.

And Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up the top of the height;

11 Y sucedía que cuando alzaba Moisés su mano, Israel vencía; pero cuando él bajaba su mano, vencía Amalec.

and it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.

12 C omo las manos de Moisés se cansaban, tomaron una piedra y la pusieron debajo de él. Moisés se sentó sobre ella, mientras Aarón y Hur sostenían sus manos, uno de un lado y el otro del otro; así se mantuvieron firmes sus manos hasta que se puso el sol.

And the hands of Moses heavy, and they take a stone, and set under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

13 Y Josué deshizo a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.

and Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.

14 E ntonces Jehová dijo a Moisés: —Escribe esto para que sea recordado en un libro, y di a Josué que borraré del todo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'

15 L uego Moisés edificó un altar, al que puso por nombre Jehová-nisi,

and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,

16 d iciendo: «Por cuanto la mano de Amalec se levantó contra el trono de Jehová, Jehová estará en guerra con Amalec de generación en generación.»

and saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'
