1 p ero Jesús se fue al Monte de los Olivos.

And at dawn he came again to the temple,

2 P or la mañana volvió al Templo, y todo el pueblo vino a él; y sentándose, les enseñaba.

and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;

3 E ntonces los escribas y los fariseos le trajeron una mujer sorprendida en adulterio y, poniéndola en medio,

and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

4 l e dijeron: —Maestro, esta mujer ha sido sorprendida en el acto mismo de adulterio,

they say to him, `Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime -- committing adultery,

5 y en la Ley nos mandó Moisés apedrear a tales mujeres. Tú, pues, ¿qué dices?

and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?'

6 E sto decían probándolo, para tener de qué acusarlo. Pero Jesús, inclinado hacia el suelo, escribía en tierra con el dedo.

and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,

7 Y como insistieran en preguntarle, se enderezó y les dijo: —El que de vosotros esté sin pecado sea el primero en arrojar la piedra contra ella.

and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, `The sinless of you -- let him first cast the stone at her;'

8 E inclinándose de nuevo hacia el suelo, siguió escribiendo en tierra.

and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,

9 P ero ellos, al oír esto, acusados por su conciencia, fueron saliendo uno a uno, comenzando desde los más viejos hasta los más jóvenes; sólo quedaron Jesús y la mujer que estaba en medio.

and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders -- unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 E nderezándose Jesús y no viendo a nadie sino a la mujer, le dijo: —Mujer, ¿dónde están los que te acusaban? ¿Ninguno te condenó?

And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, `Woman, where are those -- thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'

11 E lla dijo: —Ninguno, Señor. Entonces Jesús le dijo: —Ni yo te condeno; vete y no peques más. Jesús, la luz del mundo

and she said, `No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, `Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'

12 O tra vez Jesús les habló, diciendo: —Yo soy la luz del mundo; el que me sigue no andará en tinieblas, sino que tendrá la luz de la vida.

Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, `I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.'

13 E ntonces los fariseos le dijeron: —Tú das testimonio acerca de ti mismo; tu testimonio no es válido.

The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, `Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'

14 R espondió Jesús y les dijo: —Aunque yo doy testimonio acerca de mí mismo, mi testimonio es válido, porque sé de dónde he venido y a dónde voy; pero vosotros no sabéis de dónde vengo ni a dónde voy.

Jesus answered and said to them, `And if I testify of myself -- my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye -- ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

15 V osotros juzgáis según la carne; yo no juzgo a nadie.

`Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,

16 Y si yo juzgo, mi juicio es según la verdad, porque no soy yo solo, sino yo y el Padre que me envió.

and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;

17 Y en vuestra Ley está escrito que el testimonio de dos hombres es válido.

and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;

18 Y o soy el que doy testimonio de mí mismo. También el Padre que me envió da testimonio de mí.

I am who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.'

19 E llos le dijeron: —¿Dónde está tu padre? Respondió Jesús: —Ni a mí me conocéis, ni a mi Padre; si a mí me conocierais, también a mi Padre conoceríais.

They said, therefore, to him, `Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, `Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'

20 E stas palabras habló Jesús en el lugar de las ofrendas, enseñando en el Templo; y nadie lo prendió, porque aún no había llegado su hora. A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir

These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;

21 O tra vez les dijo Jesús: —Yo me voy, y me buscaréis, pero en vuestro pecado moriréis; a donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir.

therefore said Jesus again to them, `I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'

22 D ecían entonces los judíos: —¿Acaso pensará matarse, que dice: “A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir”?

The Jews, therefore, said, `Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'

23 Y les dijo: —Vosotros sois de abajo, yo soy de arriba; vosotros sois de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo.

and he said to them, `Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;

24 P or eso os dije que moriréis en vuestros pecados; si no creéis que yo soy, en vuestros pecados moriréis.

I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am, ye shall die in your sins.'

25 E ntonces le dijeron: —Tú, ¿quién eres? Entonces Jesús les dijo: —Lo que desde el principio os he dicho.

They said, therefore, to him, `Thou -- who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, `Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;

26 M uchas cosas tengo que decir y juzgar de vosotros; pero el que me envió es verdadero, y yo, lo que he oído de él, esto hablo al mundo.

many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I -- what things I heard from Him -- these I say to the world.'

27 P ero no entendieron que les hablaba del Padre.

They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;

28 L es dijo, pues, Jesús: —Cuando hayáis levantado al Hijo del hombre, entonces conoceréis que yo soy y que nada hago por mí mismo, sino que, según me enseñó el Padre, así hablo,

Jesus, therefore, said to them, `When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;

29 p orque el que me envió, conmigo está; no me ha dejado solo el Padre, porque yo hago siempre lo que le agrada.

and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.'

30 A l hablar él estas cosas, muchos creyeron en él. La verdad os hará libres

As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;

31 D ijo entonces Jesús a los judíos que habían creído en él: —Si vosotros permanecéis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos;

Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, `If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,

32 y conoceréis la verdad y la verdad os hará libres.

and the truth shall make you free.'

33 L e respondieron: —Descendientes de Abraham somos y jamás hemos sido esclavos de nadie. ¿Cómo dices tú: “Seréis libres”?

They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say -- Ye shall become free?'

34 J esús les respondió: —De cierto, de cierto os digo que todo aquel que practica el pecado, esclavo es del pecado.

Jesus answered them, `Verily, verily, I say to you -- Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,

35 Y el esclavo no queda en la casa para siempre; el hijo sí queda para siempre.

and the servant doth not remain in the house -- to the age, the son doth remain -- to the age;

36 A sí que, si el Hijo os liberta, seréis verdaderamente libres.

if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.

37 S é que sois descendientes de Abraham; sin embargo intentáis matarme, porque mi palabra no halla cabida en vosotros.

`I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;

38 Y o hablo lo que he visto estando junto al Padre, y vosotros hacéis lo que habéis oído junto a vuestro padre. Sois de vuestro padre el diablo

I -- that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father -- ye do.'

39 R espondieron y le dijeron: —Nuestro padre es Abraham. Jesús les dijo: —Si fuerais hijos de Abraham, las obras de Abraham haríais.

They answered and said to him, `Our father is Abraham;' Jesus saith to them, `If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing;

40 P ero ahora intentáis matarme a mí, que os he hablado la verdad, la cual he oído de Dios. No hizo esto Abraham.

and now, ye seek to kill me -- a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;

41 V osotros hacéis las obras de vuestro padre. Entonces le dijeron: —¡Nosotros no hemos nacido de fornicación! ¡Un padre tenemos: Dios!

ye do the works of your father.' They said, therefore, to him, `We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have -- God;'

42 J esús entonces les dijo: —Si vuestro padre fuera Dios, entonces me amaríais, porque yo de Dios he salido y he venido, pues no he venido de mí mismo, sino que él me envió.

Jesus then said to them, `If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;

43 ¿ Por qué no entendéis mi lenguaje? Porque no podéis escuchar mi palabra.

wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word.

44 V osotros sois de vuestro padre el diablo, y los deseos de vuestro padre queréis hacer. Él ha sido homicida desde el principio y no ha permanecido en la verdad, porque no hay verdad en él. Cuando habla mentira, de suyo habla, pues es mentiroso y padre de mentira.

`Ye are of a father -- the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar -- also his father.

45 P ero a mí, que digo la verdad, no me creéis.

`And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.

46 ¿ Quién de vosotros puede acusarme de pecado? Y si digo la verdad, ¿por qué vosotros no me creéis?

Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?

47 E l que es de Dios, las palabras de Dios oye; por esto no las oís vosotros, porque no sois de Dios. La preexistencia de Cristo

he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.'

48 R espondieron entonces los judíos, y le dijeron: —¿No decimos bien nosotros, que tú eres samaritano y que tienes demonio?

The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, `Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?'

49 R espondió Jesús: —Yo no tengo demonio, antes honro a mi Padre; y vosotros me deshonráis.

Jesus answered, `I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;

50 P ero yo no busco mi gloria; hay quien la busca y juzga.

and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;

51 D e cierto, de cierto os digo que el que guarda mi palabra nunca verá muerte.

verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see -- to the age.'

52 E ntonces los judíos le dijeron: —Ahora nos convencemos de que tienes demonio. Abraham murió, y los profetas; y tú dices: “El que guarda mi palabra nunca sufrirá muerte.”

The Jews, therefore, said to him, `Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death -- to the age!

53 ¿ Eres tú acaso mayor que nuestro padre Abraham, el cual murió? ¡También los profetas murieron! ¿Quién crees que eres?

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?'

54 R espondió Jesús: —Si yo me glorifico a mí mismo, mi gloria nada es; mi Padre es el que me glorifica, el que vosotros decís que es vuestro Dios.

Jesus answered, `If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;

55 V osotros no lo conocéis. Yo sí lo conozco y, si digo que no lo conozco, sería mentiroso como vosotros; pero lo conozco y guardo su palabra.

and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you -- speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;

56 A braham, vuestro padre, se gozó de que había de ver mi día; y lo vio y se gozó.

Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.'

57 E ntonces le dijeron los judíos: —Aún no tienes cincuenta años, ¿y has visto a Abraham?

The Jews, therefore, said unto him, `Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?'

58 J esús les dijo: —De cierto, de cierto os digo: Antes que Abraham fuera, yo soy.

Jesus said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham's coming -- I am;'

59 T omaron entonces piedras para arrojárselas, pero Jesús se escondió y salió del Templo y, atravesando por en medio de ellos, se fue.

they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
