1 ¡ Ay, si mi cabeza se hiciera agua y mis ojos fuentes de lágrimas, para llorar día y noche a los muertos de la hija de mi pueblo!

Who doth make my head waters, And mine eye a fountain of tears? And I weep by day and by night, For the wounded of the daughter of my people.

2 ¡ Ay, quién me diera en el desierto un albergue de caminantes, para abandonar a mi pueblo y apartarme de ellos!, porque todos ellos son adúlteros, una congregación de traidores.

Who doth give me in a wilderness A lodging-place of travellers? And I leave my people, and go from them, For all of them adulterers, An assembly of treacherous ones.

3 H icieron que su lengua lanzara mentira como un arco, y no se fortalecieron para la verdad en la tierra, porque de mal en mal procedieron. «Me han desconocido», dice Jehová.

And they bend their tongue, their bow a lie, And not for stedfastness have they been mighty in the land, For from evil unto evil they have gone forth, And Me they have not known, An affirmation of Jehovah!

4 G uárdese cada cual de su compañero y en ningún hermano tenga confianza, porque todo hermano engaña falazmente y todo compañero anda calumniando.

Each of his friend -- beware ye, And on any brother, do not trust, For every brother doth utterly supplant, For every friend slanderously doth walk,

5 C ada uno engaña a su compañero y ninguno dice la verdad. Han acostumbrado su lengua a decir mentiras y se ocupan de actuar perversamente.

And each at his friend they mock, And truth they do not speak, They taught their tongue to speak falsehood, To commit iniquity they have laboured.

6 « Su morada está en medio del engaño; engañadores como son, no quisieron conocerme», dice Jehová.

thy dwelling in the midst of deceit, Through deceit they refused to know Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

7 P or tanto, así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: «Yo los refinaré y los probaré, porque ¿qué más he de hacer por la hija de mi pueblo?

Therefore, thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Lo, I am refining them, and have tried them, For how do I do because of the daughter of My people?

8 S aeta aguda es la lengua de ellos: sólo habla engaño. Con su boca dicen: “Paz” al amigo, pero dentro de sí le ponen asechanzas.

A slaughtering arrow their tongue, Deceit it hath spoken in its mouth, Peace with its neighbour it speaketh, And in its heart it layeth its ambush,

9 ¿ No los he de castigar por estas cosas?, dice Jehová. De tal nación, ¿no se vengará mi alma?

For these things do not I see after them? An affirmation of Jehovah, Against a nation such as this doth not My soul avenge itself?

10 » Por los montes levantaré lloro y lamentación, y llanto por los pastizales del desierto, porque han sido desolados hasta no quedar quien pase ni oírse el bramido del ganado; desde las aves del cielo hasta las bestias de la tierra huyeron, se fueron.

For the mountains I lift up weeping and wailing, And for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, For they have been burnt up without any passing over, Nor have they heard the voice of cattle, From the fowl of the heavens unto the beast they have fled, they have gone.

11 » Reduciré a Jerusalén a un montón de ruinas, a una guarida de chacales, y convertiré las ciudades de Judá en una desolación donde no quede un solo morador.» Amenaza de ruina y exilio

And I make Jerusalem become heaps, A habitation of dragons, And the cities of Judah I make a desolation, Without inhabitant.

12 ¿ Quién es hombre sabio que entienda esto?, o ¿a quién habló la boca de Jehová, para que pueda declararlo? ¿Por qué causa la tierra ha perecido, ha sido asolada como un desierto, hasta no haber quien pase por ella?

Who the wise man? and he understandeth this, And he to whom the mouth of Jehovah spake? And he doth declare it, For what hath the land perished? It hath been burnt up as a wilderness, Without any passing through.

13 D ijo Jehová: «Dejaron mi Ley, la cual di delante de ellos, y no obedecieron a mi voz ni caminaron conforme a ella;

And Jehovah saith: Because of their forsaking My law that I set before them, And they have not hearkened to My voice nor walked in it,

14 a ntes bien, se fueron tras la imaginación de su corazón y en pos de los baales, según les enseñaron sus padres.

And they walk after the stubbornness of their heart, And after the Baalim, that their fathers taught them,

15 P or tanto, así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: A este pueblo yo les daré a comer ajenjo y les daré a beber aguas envenenadas.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am causing them -- this people -- to eat wormwood, And I have caused them to drink water of gall,

16 L os esparciré entre naciones que ni ellos ni sus padres conocieron; y enviaré la espada en pos de ellos, hasta que los acabe.»

And I have scattered them among nations Which they knew not, they and their fathers, And have sent after them the sword, Till I have consumed them.

17 A sí dice Jehová de los ejércitos: «Sed sabios y haced venir a las plañideras; buscad a las hábiles en su oficio.»

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Consider ye, and call for mourning women, And they come, And to the wise women send, and they come,

18 ¡ Que se den prisa y levanten llanto por nosotros! ¡Desháganse nuestros ojos en lágrimas, y nuestros párpados destilen aguas!,

And they hasten, and lift up for us a wailing. And run down our eyes do tears, And from our eyelids do waters flow.

19 p orque de Sión fue oída una voz de lamentación: «¡Cómo hemos sido destruidos! En gran manera hemos sido avergonzados, porque abandonamos la tierra, porque han destruido nuestras moradas.»

For -- a voice of wailing is heard from Zion: How have we been spoiled! We have been greatly ashamed, Because we have forsaken the land, Because they have cast down our tabernacles.

20 O íd, pues, mujeres, palabra de Jehová; reciba vuestro oído la palabra de su boca. Enseñad lamentaciones a vuestras hijas y un canto fúnebre cada una a su amiga,

But hear, ye women, a word of Jehovah, And your ear receiveth a word of His mouth, And teach ye your daughters wailing, and each her neighbour lamentation.

21 p orque la muerte ha subido por nuestras ventanas y ha entrado en nuestros palacios, para exterminar a los niños en las calles, a los jóvenes en las plazas.

For death hath come up into our windows, It hath come into our palaces, To cut off the suckling from without, Young men from the broad places.

22 D i: «Así dice Jehová: Los cuerpos de los hombres muertos caerán como estiércol sobre la faz del campo, como manojos tras el segador, y no hay quien los recoja.» El conocimiento de Dios es la gloria del hombre

Speak thus -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And fallen hath the carcase of man, As dung on the face of the field, And as a handful after the reaper, And there is none gathering.

23 A sí ha dicho Jehová: «No se alabe el sabio en su sabiduría, ni en su valentía se alabe el valiente, ni el rico se alabe en sus riquezas.

Thus said Jehovah: Let not the wise boast himself in his wisdom, Nor let the mighty boast himself in his might, Let not the rich boast himself in his riches,

24 M as alábese en esto el que haya de alabarse: en entenderme y conocerme, que yo soy Jehová, que hago misericordia, juicio y justicia en la tierra, porque estas cosas me agradan, dice Jehová.»

But -- in this let the boaster boast himself, In understanding and knowing Me, For I Jehovah, doing kindness, Judgment, and righteousness, in the earth, For in these I have delighted, An affirmation of Jehovah.

25 « Vienen días, dice Jehová, en que castigaré a todo circuncidado y a todo incircunciso;

Lo, days are coming -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And I have laid a charge on all circumcised in the foreskin,

26 a Egipto y a Judá, a Edom, a los hijos de Amón y de Moab, y a todos los que se rapan las sienes, los que habitan en el desierto, porque todas las naciones son incircuncisas, y toda la casa de Israel es incircuncisa de corazón.»

On Egypt, and on Judah, and on Edom, And on the sons of Ammon, and on Moab, And on all cutting the corner, Who are dwelling in the wilderness, For all the nations uncircumcised, And all the house of Israel uncircumcised in heart!
