1 P ablo, siervo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo, conforme a la fe de los escogidos de Dios y el conocimiento de la verdad que es según la piedad,

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the choice ones of God, and an acknowledging of truth that according to piety,

2 e n la esperanza de la vida eterna. Dios, que no miente, prometió esta vida desde antes del principio de los siglos,

upon hope of life age-during, which God, who doth not lie, did promise before times of ages,

3 y a su debido tiempo manifestó su palabra por medio de la predicación que me fue encomendada por mandato de Dios, nuestro Salvador.

(and He manifested in proper times His word,) in preaching, which I was entrusted with, according to a charge of God our Saviour,

4 A Tito, verdadero hijo en la común fe: Gracia, misericordia y paz, de Dios Padre y del Señor Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador. Requisitos de ancianos y obispos

to Titus -- true child according to a common faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour!

5 P or esta causa te dejé en Creta, para que corrigieras lo deficiente y establecieras ancianos en cada ciudad, así como yo te mandé.

For this cause left I thee in Crete, that the things lacking thou mayest arrange, and mayest set down in every city elders, as I did appoint to thee;

6 E l anciano debe ser irreprochable, marido de una sola mujer, y que tenga hijos creyentes que no estén acusados de disolución ni de rebeldía.

if any one is blameless, of one wife a husband, having children stedfast, not under accusation of riotous living or insubordinate --

7 E s necesario que el obispo sea irreprochable, como administrador de Dios; no soberbio, no iracundo, no dado al vino, no amigo de contiendas, no codicioso de ganancias deshonestas.

for it behoveth the overseer to be blameless, as God's steward, not self-pleased, nor irascible, not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8 D ebe ser hospedador, amante de lo bueno, sobrio, justo, santo, dueño de sí mismo,

but a lover of strangers, a lover of good men, sober-minded, righteous, kind, self-controlled,

9 r etenedor de la palabra fiel tal como ha sido enseñada, para que también pueda exhortar con sana enseñanza y convencer a los que contradicen.

holding -- according to the teaching -- to the stedfast word, that he may be able also to exhort in the sound teaching, and the gainsayers to convict;

10 H ay aún muchos obstinados, habladores de vanidades y engañadores, mayormente los de la circuncisión.

for there are many both insubordinate, vain-talkers, and mind-deceivers -- especially they of the circumcision --

11 A esos es preciso tapar la boca, porque trastornan casas enteras enseñando por ganancia deshonesta lo que no conviene.

whose mouth it behoveth to stop, who whole households do overturn, teaching what things it behoveth not, for filthy lucre's sake.

12 U no de ellos, su propio profeta, dijo: «Los cretenses son siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, glotones ociosos.»

A certain one of them, a prophet of their own, said -- `Cretans! always liars, evil beasts, lazy bellies!'

13 E ste testimonio es verdadero. Por eso, repréndelos duramente, para que sean sanos en la fe

this testimony is true; for which cause convict them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

14 y no atiendan a fábulas judaicas ni a mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.

not giving heed to Jewish fables and commands of men, turning themselves away from the truth;

15 T odas las cosas son puras para los puros, pero para los corrompidos e incrédulos nada es puro, pues hasta su mente y su conciencia están corrompidas.

all things, indeed, pure to the pure, and to the defiled and unstedfast nothing pure, but of them defiled even the mind and the conscience;

16 P rofesan conocer a Dios, pero con los hechos lo niegan, siendo abominables y rebeldes, reprobados en cuanto a toda buena obra.

God they profess to know, and in the works they deny, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work disapproved.
