1 A mados, ésta es la segunda carta que os escribo. En ambas despierto con exhortación vuestro limpio entendimiento,

This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding,

2 p ara que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos profetas, y del mandamiento del Señor y Salvador, dado por vuestros apóstoles.

to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

3 S abed ante todo que en los últimos días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias pasiones

this first knowing, that there shall come in the latter end of the days scoffers, according to their own desires going on,

4 y diciendo: «¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento? Porque desde el día en que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como desde el principio de la creación.»

and saying, `Where is the promise of his presence? for since the fathers did fall asleep, all things so remain from the beginning of the creation;'

5 E stos ignoran voluntariamente que en el tiempo antiguo fueron hechos por la palabra de Dios los cielos y también la tierra, que proviene del agua y por el agua subsiste,

for this is unobserved by them willingly, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of water and through water standing together by the word of God,

6 p or lo cual el mundo de entonces pereció anegado en agua.

through which the then world, by water having been deluged, was destroyed;

7 P ero los cielos y la tierra que existen ahora están reservados por la misma palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.

and the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured, for fire being kept to a day of judgment and destruction of the impious men.

8 P ero, amados, no ignoréis que, para el Señor, un día es como mil años y mil años como un día.

And this one thing let not be unobserved by you, beloved, that one day with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day;

9 E l Señor no retarda su promesa, según algunos la tienen por tardanza, sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento.

the Lord is not slow in regard to the promise, as certain count slowness, but is long-suffering to us, not counselling any to be lost but all to pass on to reformation,

10 P ero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche. Entonces los cielos pasarán con gran estruendo, los elementos ardiendo serán deshechos y la tierra y las obras que en ella hay serán quemadas.

and it will come -- the day of the Lord -- as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up.

11 P uesto que todas estas cosas han de ser deshechas, ¡cómo no debéis vosotros andar en santa y piadosa manera de vivir,

All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts?

12 e sperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos, encendiéndose, serán deshechos, y los elementos, siendo quemados, se fundirán!

waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt;

13 P ero nosotros esperamos, según sus promesas, cielos nuevos y tierra nueva, en los cuales mora la justicia.

and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell;

14 P or eso, amados, estando en espera de estas cosas, procurad con diligencia ser hallados por él sin mancha e irreprochables, en paz.

wherefore, beloved, these things waiting for, be diligent, spotless and unblameable, by Him to be found in peace,

15 Y tened entendido que la paciencia de nuestro Señor es para salvación; como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le ha sido dada, os ha escrito

and the long-suffering of our Lord count ye salvation, according as also our beloved brother Paul -- according to the wisdom given to him -- did write to you,

16 e n casi todas sus epístolas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos e inconstantes tuercen (como también las otras Escrituras) para su propia perdición.

as also in all the epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, among which things are certain hard to be understood, which the untaught and unstable do wrest, as also the other Writings, unto their own destruction.

17 A sí que vosotros, amados, sabiéndolo de antemano, guardaos, no sea que arrastrados por el error de los inicuos caigáis de vuestra firmeza.

Ye, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, ye may fall from your own stedfastness,

18 A ntes bien, creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A él sea gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.

and increase ye in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to him the glory both now, and to the day of the age! Amen.
