1 A conteció que en el año cuarto del rey Darío, a los cuatro días del mes noveno, que es Quisleu, llegó palabra de Jehová a Zacarías.

And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Darius the king hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, in the fourth of the ninth month, in Chisleu.

2 E n aquel tiempo el pueblo de Bet-el había enviado a Sarezer, con Regem-melec y sus hombres, a implorar el favor de Jehová,

And Beth-El sendeth Sherezer and Regem-Melech, and its men, to appease the face of Jehovah,

3 y a preguntar a los sacerdotes que estaban en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, y a los profetas: «¿Lloraremos en el mes quinto? ¿Haremos abstinencia, como la hemos venido haciendo desde hace algunos años?»

speaking unto the priests who at the house of Jehovah of Hosts, and unto the prophets, saying, `Do I weep in the fifth month -- being separated -- as I have done these so many years?'

4 R ecibí, pues, esta palabra de Jehová de los ejércitos:

And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts unto me, saying:

5 « Di a todo el pueblo del país, y a los sacerdotes: “Cuando ayunabais y llorabais en el quinto y en el séptimo mes durante estos setenta años, ¿habéis ayunado para mí?

`Speak unto all the people of the land, and unto the priests, saying:

6 Y cuando comíais y bebíais, ¿no comíais y bebíais para vosotros mismos?”»

When ye fasted with mourning in the fifth and in the seventh -- even these seventy years -- did ye keep the fast Me -- Me? And when ye eat, and when ye drink, is it not ye who are eating, and ye who are drinking?

7 ¿ Acaso no son éstas las palabras que proclamó Jehová por medio de los primeros profetas, cuando Jerusalén estaba habitada y tranquila, y las ciudades de sus alrededores y el Neguev y la Sefela estaban también habitados? La desobediencia, causa del cautiverio

`Are not the words that Jehovah proclaimed by the hand of the former prophets, in Jerusalem's being inhabited, and safety, and its cities round about it, and the south and the plain -- abiding?'

8 R ecibió también Zacarías esta palabra de Jehová:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Zechariah, saying:

9 « Así habló Jehová de los ejércitos: Juzgad conforme a la verdad; haced misericordia y piedad cada cual con su hermano;

`Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: True judgment judge ye, And kindness and mercy do one with another.

10 n o oprimáis a la viuda, al huérfano, al extranjero ni al pobre, ni ninguno piense mal en su corazón contra su hermano.»

And widow, and fatherless, Sojourner, and poor, ye do not oppress, And the calamity of one another ye do not devise in your heart.

11 P ero no quisieron escuchar, sino que volvieron la espalda y se taparon los oídos para no oír;

And they refuse to attend, And they give a refractory shoulder, And their ears have made heavy against hearing.

12 e ndurecieron su corazón como diamante, para no oír la Ley ni las palabras que Jehová de los ejércitos enviaba por su espíritu, por medio de los primeros profetas. Por tanto, Jehová de los ejércitos se enojó mucho.

And their heart they have made adamant, Against hearing the law, and the words, That Jehovah of Hosts sent by His Spirit, By the hand of the former prophets, And their is great wrath from Jehovah of Hosts.

13 « Y aconteció que, así como él clamó y no escucharon, también ellos clamaron y yo no escuché, dice Jehová de los ejércitos,

And it cometh to pass, as He called, And they have not hearkened, So do they call, and I do not hearken, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

14 s ino que los esparcí como con un torbellino por todas las naciones que ellos no conocían, y la tierra fue desolada tras ellos, sin quedar quien fuera ni viniera; pues convirtieron en desierto la tierra deseable.»

And I toss them on all the nations, That they have not known, The land hath been desolate behind them, Of any passing by and turning back, And they set a desirable land for a desolation!
