1 E n el año cuarto del rey Darío vino la palabra del Señor a Zacarías, el cuarto día del mes noveno, Quisleu.

And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Darius the king hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, in the fourth of the ninth month, in Chisleu.

2 L a aldea de Betel (Casa de Dios) había enviado a Sarezer, a Regem Melec y a sus hombres a implorar el favor del Señor,

And Beth-El sendeth Sherezer and Regem-Melech, and its men, to appease the face of Jehovah,

3 y preguntar a los sacerdotes que eran de la casa del Señor de los ejércitos, y a los profetas: “¿Debemos llorar en el mes quinto y abstenernos como lo hemos hecho durante tantos años?”

speaking unto the priests who at the house of Jehovah of Hosts, and unto the prophets, saying, `Do I weep in the fifth month -- being separated -- as I have done these so many years?'

4 E ntonces vino a mí la palabra del Señor de los ejércitos:

And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts unto me, saying:

5 “ Habla a todo el pueblo de la tierra y a los sacerdotes, y diles: ‘Cuando ustedes ayunaban y se lamentaban en el quinto y el séptimo mes durante estos setenta años, ¿ayunaban en verdad por Mí ?

`Speak unto all the people of the land, and unto the priests, saying:

6 Y cuando comen y beben, ¿no comen y beben para ustedes mismos?

When ye fasted with mourning in the fifth and in the seventh -- even these seventy years -- did ye keep the fast Me -- Me? And when ye eat, and when ye drink, is it not ye who are eating, and ye who are drinking?

7 ¿ No son estas las palabras que el Señor proclamó por medio de los antiguos profetas, cuando Jerusalén estaba habitada y próspera con sus ciudades a su alrededor, y el Neguev (región del sur) y la tierra baja estaban habitados?’”

`Are not the words that Jehovah proclaimed by the hand of the former prophets, in Jerusalem's being inhabited, and safety, and its cities round about it, and the south and the plain -- abiding?'

8 E ntonces vino la palabra del Señor a Zacarías:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Zechariah, saying:

9 “ Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: ‘Juicio verdadero juzguen, y misericordia y compasión practiquen cada uno con su hermano.

`Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: True judgment judge ye, And kindness and mercy do one with another.

10 N o opriman a la viuda, al huérfano, al extranjero ni al pobre, ni tramen el mal en sus corazones unos contra otros.’

And widow, and fatherless, Sojourner, and poor, ye do not oppress, And the calamity of one another ye do not devise in your heart.

11 P ero ellos rehusaron escuchar y volvieron la espalda rebelde y se taparon los oídos para no oír.

And they refuse to attend, And they give a refractory shoulder, And their ears have made heavy against hearing.

12 Y endurecieron sus corazones como el diamante para no oír la ley ni las palabras que el Señor de los ejércitos había enviado por Su Espíritu, por medio de los antiguos profetas. Vino, pues, gran enojo de parte del Señor de los ejércitos.

And their heart they have made adamant, Against hearing the law, and the words, That Jehovah of Hosts sent by His Spirit, By the hand of the former prophets, And their is great wrath from Jehovah of Hosts.

13 Y como Yo había clamado y ellos no habían querido escuchar, así ellos clamaron y Yo no quise escuchar,” dice el Señor de los ejércitos,

And it cometh to pass, as He called, And they have not hearkened, So do they call, and I do not hearken, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

14 “ sino que los dispersé en torbellino entre todas las naciones que no conocían. Y la tierra fue desolada tras ellos, sin que nadie fuera ni viniera; convirtieron la tierra deseable en desolación.”

And I toss them on all the nations, That they have not known, The land hath been desolate behind them, Of any passing by and turning back, And they set a desirable land for a desolation!
