1 J osías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén.

A son of eight years Josiah in his reigning, and thirty and one years he hath reigned in Jerusalem,

2 E l hizo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor y anduvo en los caminos de su padre David; no se apartó ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

and he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walketh in the ways of David his father, and hath not turned aside -- right or left.

3 P orque en el octavo año de su reinado, siendo aún joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de su padre David; y en el año doce empezó a purificar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los lugares altos, de las Aseras, de las imágenes talladas y de las imágenes fundidas.

And in the eighth year of his reign (and he yet a youth), he hath begun to seek to the God of David his father, and in the twelfth year he hath begun to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the shrines, and the graven images, and the molten images.

4 Y derribaron en su presencia los altares de los Baales; destrozó los altares del incienso que estaban puestos en alto, encima de ellos; despedazó también las Aseras, las imágenes talladas y las imágenes fundidas y las redujo a polvo, que esparció sobre las sepulturas de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.

And they break down before him the altars of the Baalim, and the images that on high above them he hath cut down, and the shrines, and the graven images, and the molten images, he hath broken and beaten small, and streweth on the surface of the graves of those sacrificing to them,

5 E ntonces quemó los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares y purificó a Judá y a Jerusalén.

and the bones of the priests he hath burnt on their altars, and cleanseth Judah and Jerusalem,

6 E n las ciudades de Manasés, Efraín, Simeón y hasta en Neftalí, y en sus ruinas alrededor,

and in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their tools, round about.

7 d erribó también los altares y redujo a polvo las Aseras y las imágenes talladas, y destrozó todos los altares de incienso por todas las tierras de Israel. Después regresó a Jerusalén.

And he breaketh down the altars and the shrines, and the graven images he hath beaten down very small, and all the images he hath cut down in all the land of Israel, and turneth back to Jerusalem.

8 E n el año dieciocho de su reinado, cuando terminó de purificar el país y la casa (el templo), Josías envió a Safán, hijo de Azalía, y a Maasías, un oficial de la ciudad, y a Joa, hijo de Joacaz, escriba, para que repararan la casa (el templo) del Señor su Dios.

And in the eighteenth year of his reign, to purify the land and the house he hath sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah head of the city, and Joah son of Johaz the remembrancer, to strengthen the house of Jehovah his God.

9 E llos vinieron al sumo sacerdote Hilcías y le entregaron el dinero que había sido traído a la casa de Dios, y que los Levitas guardianes del umbral habían recogido de Manasés y de Efraín y de todo el remanente de Israel, y de todo Judá y Benjamín y de los habitantes de Jerusalén.

And they come in unto Hilkiah the high priest, and they give the money that is brought in to the house of God, that the Levites, keeping the threshold, have gathered from the hand of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and from all the remnant of Israel, and from all Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,

10 E ntonces entregaron el dinero en manos de los obreros que estaban encargados de la casa del Señor; y los obreros que trabajaban en la casa del Señor lo usaron para restaurar y reparar la casa.

and they give into the hand of the workmen, those appointed over the house of Jehovah, and they give it the workmen who are working in the house of Jehovah, to repair and to strengthen the house;

11 E llos a su vez les dieron dinero a los carpinteros y a los constructores para comprar piedra de cantería y maderas para las uniones, y hacer vigas para los edificios que los reyes de Judá habían dejado que se arruinaran.

and they give to artificers, and to builders, to buy hewn stones, and wood for couplings and for beams to the houses that the kings of Judah had destroyed.

12 L os hombres hicieron el trabajo fielmente con estos capataces sobre ellos para dirigir los: Jahat y Abdías, Levitas de los hijos de Merari, y Zacarías y Mesulam, de los hijos de Coat, y de los Levitas, todos los que eran hábiles con instrumentos musicales.

And the men are working faithfully in the business, and over them are appointed Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathite, to overlook; and of the Levites, every one understanding about instruments of song,

13 E llos también estaban sobre los cargadores y dirigían, de trabajo en trabajo, a todos los que hacían la obra. Algunos de los Levitas eran escribas, oficiales y porteros. Hallazgo del Libro de la Ley

and over the burden-bearers, and overseers of every one doing work for service and service; and of the Levites scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.

14 M ientras ellos sacaban el dinero que habían traído a la casa del Señor, el sacerdote Hilcías encontró el Libro de la Ley del Señor dada por Moisés.

And in their bringing out the money that is brought in to the house of Jehovah, hath Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Jehovah by the hand of Moses,

15 E ntonces Hilcías dijo al escriba Safán: “He hallado el Libro de la Ley en la casa del Señor.” Hilcías le dio el libro a Safán,

and Hilkiah answereth and saith unto Shaphan the scribe, `A book of the law I have found in the house of Jehovah;' and Hilkiah giveth the book unto Shaphan,

16 y éste llevó el libro al rey y le dio más noticias: “Todo lo que fue encomendado a sus siervos, lo están haciendo.

and Shaphan bringeth in the book unto the king, and bringeth the king back word again, saying, `All that hath been given into the hand of thy servants they are doing,

17 T ambién han tomado el dinero que se encontraba en la casa del Señor, y lo han entregado en manos de los encargados y de los obreros.”

and they pour out the money that is found in the house of Jehovah, and give it into the hand of those appointed, and into the hands of those doing the work.'

18 E l escriba Safán informó también al rey: “El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro.” Y Safán leyó de él en la presencia del rey.

And Shaphan the scribe declareth to the king, saying, `A book hath Hilkiah the priest given to me;' and Shaphan readeth in it before the king.

19 C uando el rey oyó las palabras de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos.

And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the law, that he rendeth his garments,

20 E ntonces el rey ordenó a Hilcías, a Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a Abdón, hijo de Micaía, al escriba Safán y a Asaías, siervo del rey:

and the king commandeth Hilkiah, and Ahikam son of Shaphan, and Abdon son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, servant of the king, saying,

21 “ Vayan, consulten al Señor por mí y por los que quedan en Israel y en Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha encontrado. Porque grande es el furor del Señor que se derrama sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no han guardado la palabra del Señor, haciendo conforme a todo lo que está escrito en este libro.”

`Go, seek Jehovah for me, and for him who is left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found, for great the fury of Jehovah that is poured on us, because that our fathers kept not the word of Jehovah, to do according to all that is written on this book.'

22 E ntonces Hilcías fue con los que el rey había dicho a la profetisa Hulda, mujer de Salum, hijo de Ticva, hijo de Harhas, encargado del vestuario. Ella habitaba en Jerusalén en el segundo sector, y hablaron con ella acerca de esto.

And Hilkiah goeth, and they of the king, unto Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum son of Tikvath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the garments, and she is dwelling in Jerusalem in the Second, and they speak unto her thus.

23 Y ella les dijo: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Digan al hombre que los ha enviado a Mí:

And she saith to them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Say to the man who hath sent you unto me,

24 a sí dice el Señor: “Voy a traer mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes, es decir, todas las maldiciones escritas en el libro que ellos han leído en presencia del rey de Judá.

Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am bringing in evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, all the execrations that are written on the book that they read before the king of Judah;

25 “ Por cuanto Me han abandonado y han quemado incienso a otros dioses para provocarme a ira con todas las obras de sus manos, por tanto Mi furor se derramará sobre este lugar, y no se apagará.”’”

because that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, so as to provoke Me with all the works of their hands, and poured out is My fury upon this place, and it is not quenched.

26 P ero al rey de Judá que los envió a ustedes a consultar al Señor, así le dirán: ‘Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “En cuanto a las palabras que has oído,

`And unto the king of Judah, who is sending you to inquire of Jehovah, thus do ye say unto him: Thus said Jehovah God of Israel, whose words thou hast heard:

27 p orque se enterneció tu corazón y te humillaste delante de Dios cuando oíste Sus palabras contra este lugar y contra sus habitantes, y te humillaste delante de Mí, y rasgaste tus vestidos y lloraste delante de Mí, ciertamente te he oído,” declara el Señor.

Because thy heart tender, and thou art humbled before God in thy hearing His words concerning this place, and concerning its inhabitants, and art humbled before Me, and dost rend thy garments, and weep before Me: even I also have heard -- the affirmation of Jehovah.

28 “ Te reuniré con tus padres y serás recogido en tu sepultura en paz, y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que Yo voy a traer sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes.”’” Y llevaron la respuesta al rey.

Lo, I am gathering thee unto thy fathers, and thou hast been gathered unto thy graves in peace, and thine eyes do not look on all the evil that I am bringing upon this place, and upon its inhabitants;' and they bring the king back word.

29 E ntonces el rey mandó reunir a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.

And the king sendeth and gathereth all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem,

30 Y subió el rey a la casa del Señor con todos los hombres de Judá, los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes, los Levitas y todo el pueblo, desde el mayor hasta el menor, y leyó en su presencia todas las palabras del Libro del Pacto que había sido hallado en la casa del Señor.

and the king goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and every man of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, even all the people, from great even unto small, and he readeth in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that is found in the house of Jehovah.

31 D espués el rey se puso en pie en su lugar e hizo pacto delante del Señor de andar en pos del Señor y de guardar Sus mandamientos, Sus testimonios y Sus estatutos con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, para cumplir las palabras del pacto escritas en este libro.

And the king standeth on his station, and maketh the covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep His commands, and His testimonies, and His statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to do the words of the covenant that are written on this book.

32 A demás, hizo suscribir el pacto a todos los que se encontraban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín. Y los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron conforme al pacto de Dios, el Dios de sus padres.

And he presenteth every one who is found in Jerusalem and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem do according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

33 Y Josías quitó todas las abominaciones de todas las tierras que pertenecían a los Israelitas, e hizo que todos los que se encontraban en Israel sirvieran al Señor su Dios. Mientras él vivió no se apartaron de seguir al Señor, Dios de sus padres.

And Josiah turneth aside all the abominations out of all the lands that the sons of Israel have, and causeth every one who is found in Israel to serve, to serve Jehovah their God; all his days they turned not aside from after Jehovah, God of their fathers.
