1 L os hijos de los profetas dijeron a Eliseo: “Mire, el lugar en que habitamos con usted es muy estrecho para nosotros.

And sons of the prophet say unto Elisha, `Lo, we pray thee, the place where we are dwelling before thee is too strait for us;

2 L e rogamos que nos deje ir al Jordán, para que cada uno de nosotros tome de allí una viga, y nos hagamos allí un lugar donde habitar.” Y él dijo: “Vayan.”

let us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and we take thence each one beam, and we make for ourselves there a place to dwell there;' and he saith, `Go.'

3 E ntonces uno dijo: “Le rogamos que consienta ir con sus siervos.” Y Eliseo respondió: “Yo iré.”

And the one saith, `Be pleased, I pray thee, and go with thy servants;' and he saith, `I -- I go.'

4 F ue, pues, con ellos; y cuando llegaron al Jordán, cortaron árboles.

And he goeth with them, and they come in to the Jordan, and cut down the trees,

5 P ero sucedió que cuando uno de ellos estaba derribando un tronco, el hierro del hacha se le cayó al agua; y gritó, y dijo: “¡Ah, señor mío, era prestado!”

and it cometh to pass, the one is felling the beam, and the iron hath fallen into the water, and he crieth and saith, `Alas! my lord, and it asked!'

6 E ntonces el hombre de Dios dijo: “¿Dónde cayó?” Y cuando le mostró el lugar, cortó un palo y lo echó allí, e hizo flotar el hierro.

And the man of God saith, `Whither hath it fallen?' and he sheweth him the place, and he cutteth a stick, and casteth thither, and causeth the iron to swim,

7 Y Eliseo le dijo: “Tómalo.” Y el hombre extendió la mano y lo tomó. Eliseo y los Arameos

and saith, `Raise to thee;' and he putteth forth his hand and taketh it.

8 E l rey de Aram estaba en guerra con Israel; y consultó con sus siervos, diciéndoles: “En tal y tal lugar estará mi campamento.”

And the king of Aram hath been fighting against Israel, and taketh counsel with his servants, saying, `At such and such a place my encamping.'

9 Y el hombre de Dios envió un mensaje al rey de Israel: “Procura no pasar por tal lugar, porque los Arameos van a bajar allí.”

And the man of God sendeth unto the king of Israel, saying, `Take heed of passing by this place, for thither are the Aramaeans coming down;

10 E ntonces el rey de Israel envió gente al lugar que el hombre de Dios le había dicho; así que, al prevenirlo él, se cuidó de ir allí, y esto no una ni dos veces.

and the king of Israel sendeth unto the place of which the man of God spake to him, and warned him, and he is preserved there not once nor twice.

11 Y se enfureció el corazón del rey de Aram por este hecho; y llamando a sus siervos, les dijo: “¿No me van a revelar quién de los nuestros está a favor del rey de Israel?”

And the heart of the king of Aram is tossed about concerning this thing, and he calleth unto his servants, and saith unto them, `Do ye not declare to me who of us for the king of Israel?'

12 Y uno de sus siervos dijo: “No, rey señor mío, sino que Eliseo, el profeta que está en Israel, le dice al rey de Israel las palabras que tú hablas en el interior de tu alcoba.”

And one of his servants saith, `Nay, my lord, O king, for Elisha the prophet, who in Israel, declareth to the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in the inner part of thy bed-chamber.'

13 Y él dijo: “Vayan y vean donde está, y enviaré a prenderlo.” Y le avisaron: “El está en Dotán.”

And he saith, `Go ye and see where he, and I send and take him;' and it is declared to him, saying, `Lo -- in Dothan.'

14 E ntonces envió allá caballos, carros y un gran ejército; y llegaron de noche y cercaron la ciudad.

And he sendeth thither horses and chariot, and a heavy force, and they come in by night, and go round against the city.

15 Y cuando el que servía al hombre de Dios se levantó temprano y salió, vio que un ejército con caballos y carros rodeaba la ciudad. Y su criado le dijo: “¡Ah, señor mío! ¿Qué haremos?”

And the servant of the man of God riseth early, and goeth out, and lo, a force is surrounding the city, and horse and chariot, and his young man saith unto him, `Alas! my lord, how do we do?'

16 Y él respondió: “No temas, porque los que están con nosotros son más que los que están con ellos.”

And he saith, `Fear not, for more they who with us than they who with them.'

17 E liseo entonces oró, y dijo: “Oh Señor, Te ruego que abras sus ojos para que vea.” Y el Señor abrió los ojos del criado, y miró que el monte estaba lleno de caballos y carros de fuego alrededor de Eliseo.

And Elisha prayeth, and saith, `Jehovah, open, I pray Thee, his eyes, and he doth see;' and Jehovah openeth the eyes of the young man, and he seeth, and lo, the hill is full of horses and chariots of fire, round about Elisha.

18 C uando descendieron hacia él los Arameos, Eliseo oró al Señor, y dijo: “Te ruego que hieras a esta gente con ceguera.” Y El los hirió con ceguera conforme a la palabra de Eliseo.

And they come down unto it, and Elisha prayeth unto Jehovah, and saith, `Smite, I pray Thee, this nation with blindness;' and He smiteth them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha.

19 E ntonces Eliseo les dijo: “Este no es el camino, ni es ésta la ciudad; síganme y yo los guiaré al hombre que buscan.” Y los llevó a Samaria.

And Elisha saith unto them, `This not the way, nor this the city; come after me, and I lead you unto the man whom ye seek;' and he leadeth them to Samaria.

20 C uando llegaron a Samaria, dijo Eliseo: “Oh Señor, abre los ojos de éstos para que vean.” Y el Señor abrió sus ojos y vieron que estaban en medio de Samaria.

And it cometh to pass, at their coming in to Samaria, that Elisha saith, `Jehovah, open the eyes of these, and they see;' and Jehovah openeth their eyes, and they see, and lo, in the midst of Samaria!

21 A l verlos, el rey de Israel dijo a Eliseo: “¿Los mato, padre mío ? ¿Los mato?”

And the king of Israel saith unto Elisha, at his seeing them, `Do I smite -- do I smite -- my father?'

22 Y él respondió: “No los mates. ¿Matarías a los que has tomado cautivos con tu espada y con tu arco? Pon delante de ellos pan y agua para que coman y beban y se vuelvan a su señor.”

And he saith, `Thou dost not smite; those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow art thou smiting? set bread and water before them, and they eat, and drink, and go unto their lord.'

23 E ntonces les preparó un gran banquete; y después que comieron y bebieron, los despidió, y se volvieron a su señor. Y las bandas armadas de Arameos no volvieron a entrar más en la tierra de Israel. Hambre por el Sitio de Samaria

And he prepareth for them great provision, and they eat and drink, and he sendeth them away, and they go unto their lord: and troops of Aram have not added any more to come in to the land of Israel.

24 P ero aconteció que después de esto, Ben Adad, rey de Aram, reunió a todo su ejército, y subió y sitió a Samaria.

And it cometh to pass afterwards, that Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathereth all his camp, and goeth up, and layeth siege to Samaria,

25 Y hubo gran hambre en Samaria. La sitiaron de tal modo que la cabeza de un asno se vendía por ochenta siclos (912 gramos) de plata, y medio litro de estiércol de paloma por cinco siclos de plata.

and there is a great famine in Samaria, and lo, they are laying siege to it, till the head of an ass is at eighty silverlings, and a forth of the cab of dovesdung at five silverlings.

26 P asando el rey de Israel por la muralla, una mujer le gritó, diciendo: “¡Ayúde me, oh rey señor mío!”

And it cometh to pass, the king of Israel is passing by on the wall, and a woman hath cried unto him, saying, `Save, my lord, O king.'

27 Y él respondió: “Si el Señor no te ayuda, ¿de dónde te podré ayudar? ¿De la era o del lagar?”

And he saith, `Jehovah doth not save thee -- whence do I save thee? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the wine-vat?'

28 Y el rey le dijo: “¿Qué te pasa?” Y ella respondió: “Esta mujer me dijo: ‘Da tu hijo para que lo comamos hoy, y mi hijo lo comeremos mañana.’

And the king saith to her, `What -- to thee?' and she saith, `This woman said unto me, Give thy son, and we eat him to-day, and my son we eat to-morrow;

29 A sí que cocimos a mi hijo y nos lo comimos; y al día siguiente, le dije a ella: ‘Da tu hijo, para que lo comamos’; pero ella ha escondido a su hijo.”

and we boil my son and eat him, and I say unto her on the next day, Give thy son, and we eat him; and she hideth her son.'

30 C uando el rey oyó las palabras de la mujer, rasgó sus vestidos y como él pasaba por la muralla, la gente miró, y vio que interiormente, llevaba cilicio sobre su cuerpo.

And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the woman, that he rendeth his garments, and he is passing by on the wall, and the people see, and lo, the sackcloth on his flesh within.

31 E ntonces él dijo: “Así me haga Dios, y aun me añada, si la cabeza de Eliseo, hijo de Safat, se mantiene sobre sus hombros hoy.”

And he saith, `Thus doth God do to me, and thus He doth add -- if it remain -- the head of Elisha son of Shaphat -- upon him this day.'

32 E liseo estaba sentado en su casa, y los ancianos estaban sentados con él. El rey envió a un hombre de los que estaban en su presencia; pero antes de que el mensajero llegara a Eliseo, éste dijo a los ancianos: “¿Ven cómo este hijo de asesino ha enviado a cortarme la cabeza ? Miren, cuando el mensajero llegue, cierren la puerta y manténganla cerrada contra él. ¿No se oye tras él el ruido de los pasos de su señor?”

And Elisha is sitting in his house, and the elders are sitting with him, and sendeth a man from before him; before the messenger doth come unto him, even he himself said unto the elders, `Have ye seen that this son of the murderer hath sent to turn aside my head? see, at the coming in of the messenger, shut the door, and ye have held him fast at the door, is not the sound of the feet of his lord behind him?'

33 T odavía estaba hablando con ellos, cuando el mensajero descendió a él, y le dijo: “Mira, este mal viene del Señor; ¿por qué he de esperar más en el Señor ?”

He is yet speaking with them, and lo, the messenger is coming down unto him, and he saith, `Lo, this the evil from Jehovah: what -- do I wait for Jehovah any more?'
