1 ¡ Ay de la corona de arrogancia de los ebrios de Efraín, Y de la flor marchita de su gloriosa hermosura, Que está sobre la cabeza del valle fértil De los vencidos por el vino!

Wo the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim. And the fading flower of the beauty of his glory, That on the head of the fat valley of the broken down of wine.

2 M iren, uno fuerte y poderoso de parte del Señor, Como tormenta de granizo, tempestad destructora, Como tormenta de violentas aguas desbordadas, Los ha lanzado a tierra con Su mano.

Lo, a mighty and strong one to the Lord, As a storm of hail -- a destructive shower, As an inundation of mighty waters overflowing, He cast down to the earth with the hand.

3 C on los pies es pisoteada la corona de arrogancia de los ebrios de Efraín.

By feet trodden down is the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim,

4 Y la flor marchita de su gloriosa hermosura, Que está sobre la cabeza del valle fértil, Será como el primer higo maduro antes del verano, El cual uno ve, Y tan pronto está en su mano se lo traga.

And the fading flower of the beauty of his glory That on the head of the fat valley, Hath been as its first-fruit before summer, That its beholder seeth, While it yet in his hand he swalloweth it.

5 E n aquel día el Señor de los ejércitos será hermosa corona Y gloriosa diadema para el remanente de Su pueblo,

In that day is Jehovah of Hosts For a crown of beauty, and for a diadem of glory, To the remnant of His people.

6 E spíritu de justicia para el que se sienta en juicio, Y fuerza para los que rechazan el asalto en la puerta.

And for a spirit of judgment To him who is sitting in the judgment, And for might those turning back the battle to the gate.

7 T ambién éstos se tambalean por el vino y dan traspiés por el licor: El sacerdote y el profeta por el licor se tambalean, Están ofuscados por el vino, por el licor dan traspiés; Vacilan en sus visiones, Titubean al pronunciar juicio.

And even these through wine have erred, And through strong drink have wandered, Priest and prophet erred through strong drink, They have been swallowed up of the wine, They wandered because of the strong drink, They have erred in seeing, They have stumbled judicially.

8 P orque todas las mesas están llenas de vómito asqueroso, sin un solo lugar limpio. Amonestación a Jerusalén

For all tables have been full of vomit, Filth -- without place!

9 ¿ A quién enseñará conocimiento, O a quién interpretará el mensaje? ¿A los recién destetados ? ¿A los recién quitados de los pechos?

By whom doth He teach knowledge? And by whom doth He cause to understand the report? The weaned from milk, the removed from breasts,

10 P orque dice: “Mandato sobre mandato, mandato sobre mandato, Línea sobre línea, línea sobre línea, Un poco aquí, un poco allá.”

For rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there,

11 E n verdad, con tartamudez de labios Y en lengua extranjera, El hablará a este pueblo,

For by scorned lip, and by another tongue, Doth He speak unto this people.

12 A l cual había dicho: “Aquí hay reposo, den reposo al cansado;” Y: “Aquí hay descanso.” Pero no quisieron escuchar.

Unto whom He hath said, `This the rest, give ye rest to the weary, And this -- the refreshing:' And they have not been willing to hear,

13 P or lo cual la palabra del Señor para ellos será: “Mandato sobre mandato, mandato sobre mandato, Línea sobre línea, línea sobre línea, Un poco aquí, un poco allá, Para que vayan y caigan de espaldas, Se quiebren los huesos, Y sean enlazados y apresados.”

And to whom a word of Jehovah hath been, Rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there, So that they go and have stumbled backward, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

14 P or tanto, oigan la palabra del Señor, oh insolentes, Gobernantes de este pueblo que está en Jerusalén.

Therefore, hear a word of Jehovah, ye men of scorning, Ruling this people that in Jerusalem.

15 P orque han dicho: “Hemos hecho un pacto con la muerte, Hemos hecho un convenio con el Seol (región de los muertos). Cuando pase el azote abrumador, no nos alcanzará, Porque hemos hecho de la mentira nuestro refugio Y en el engaño nos hemos escondido.”

Because ye have said: `We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a provision, An overflowing scourge, when it passeth over, Doth not meet us, Though we have made a lie our refuge, And in falsehood have been hidden.'

16 P or tanto, así dice el Señor Dios: “Yo pongo por fundamento en Sion una piedra, una piedra probada, Angular, preciosa, fundamental, bien colocada. El que crea en ella no será perturbado.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: `Lo, I am laying a foundation in Zion, A stone -- a tried stone, a corner stone precious, a settled foundation, He who is believing doth not make haste.

17 P ondré el juicio como medida, Y la justicia como nivel; Entonces el granizo barrerá el refugio de la mentira, Y las aguas cubrirán el escondite.

And I have put judgment for a line, And righteousness for a plummet, And sweep away doth hail the refuge of lies, And the secret hiding-place do waters overflow.

18 S erá terminado el pacto de ustedes con la muerte, Su convenio con el Seol no quedará en pie. Cuando pase el azote abrumador, Ustedes serán pisoteados por él.

And disannulled hath been your covenant with death, And your provision with Sheol doth not stand, An overflowing scourge, when it passeth over, Then ye have been to it for a treading-place.

19 C uantas veces pase, los arrebatará, Porque pasará mañana tras mañana, de día y de noche. Y será terrible espanto el comprender el mensaje.”

From the fulness of its passing over it taketh you, For morning by morning it passeth over, By day and by night, And it hath been only a trembling to consider the report.

20 L a cama es muy corta para estirarse en ella, Y la manta muy estrecha para envolverse en ella.

For shorter hath been the bed Than to stretch one's self out in, And the covering hath been narrower Than to wrap one's self up in.

21 P orque el Señor se levantará como en el Monte Perazim, Se enojará como en el Valle de Gabaón, Para hacer Su tarea, Su extraña tarea, Y para hacer Su obra, Su extraordinaria obra.

For as mount Perazim rise doth Jehovah, As the valley in Gibeon He is troubled, To do His work -- strange His work, And to do His deed -- strange His deed.'

22 Y ahora, no continúen ustedes como insolentes, No sea que se hagan más fuertes sus grillos, Pues de parte del Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, he oído De una destrucción decretada sobre la tierra.

And now, show not yourselves scorners, Lest strong be your bands, For a consumption, that is determined, I have heard, by the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, for all the land.

23 E scuchen y oigan mi voz, Presten atención y oigan mis palabras.

Give ear, and hear my voice, Attend, and hear my saying:

24 ¿ Acaso para sembrar se pasa arando el labrador todo el día, Abriendo y rastrillando su tierra?

The whole day plougheth the ploughman to sow? He openeth and harroweth his ground!

25 ¿ No allana su superficie Y siembra eneldo y esparce comino, Y siembra trigo en hileras, Cebada en su debido lugar, y centeno dentro de sus límites ?

Hath he not, if he have made level its face, Then scattered fitches, and cummin sprinkle, And hath placed the principal wheat, And the appointed barley, And the rie its own border?

26 P orque su Dios lo instruye y le enseña cómo hacerlo.

And instruct him for judgment doth his God, He doth direct him.

27 P ues no se trilla el eneldo con el trillo, Ni se hace girar la rueda de carreta sobre el comino; Sino que con vara se sacude el eneldo, y con palo el comino.

For not with a sharp-pointed thing threshed are fitches, And the wheel of a cart on cummin turned round, For with a staff beaten out are fitches, And cummin with a rod.

28 E l grano es triturado, Pero no lo seguirán trillando indefinidamente; Debido a que la rueda de la carreta y sus caballos lo dañarán, No lo triturarán más.

Bread- is beaten small, For not for ever doth he sorely thresh it, Nor crushed hath a wheel of his cart, Nor do his hoofs beat it small.

29 T ambién esto procede del Señor de los ejércitos, Que ha hecho maravilloso Su consejo y grande Su sabiduría.

Even this from Jehovah of Hosts hath gone out, He hath made counsel wonderful, He hath made wisdom great!
