1 A cab le contó a Jezabel todo lo que Elías había hecho y cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas.

And Ahab declareth to Jezebel all that Elijah did, and all how he slew all the prophets by the sword,

2 E ntonces Jezabel envió un mensajero a Elías, diciendo: “Así me hagan los dioses y aun me añadan, si mañana a estas horas yo no he puesto tu vida como la vida de uno de ellos.”

and Jezebel sendeth a messenger unto Elijah, saying, `Thus doth the gods, and thus do they add, surely about this time to-morrow, I make thy life as the life of one of them.'

3 E lías tuvo miedo, y se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida; y vino a Beerseba de Judá y dejó allí a su criado,

And he feareth, and riseth, and goeth for his life, and cometh in to Beer-Sheba, that Judah's, and leaveth his young man there,

4 y anduvo por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y se sentó bajo un arbusto (enebro); pidió morirse y dijo: “Basta ya, Señor, toma mi vida porque yo no soy mejor que mis padres.”

and he himself hath gone into the wilderness a day's Journey, and cometh and sitteth under a certain retem-tree, and desireth his soul to die, and saith, `Enough, now, O Jehovah, take my soul, for I not better than my fathers.'

5 Y acostándose bajo el arbusto, se durmió; pero un ángel lo tocó y le dijo: “Levántate, come.”

And he lieth down and sleepeth under a certain retem-tree, and lo, a messenger cometh against him, and saith to him, `Rise, eat;'

6 E ntonces vio que en su cabecera había una torta cocida sobre piedras calientes y una vasija de agua. Comió y bebió, y volvió a acostarse.

and he looketh attentively, and lo, at his bolster a cake burning stones, and a dish of water, and he eateth, and drinketh, and turneth, and lieth down.

7 E l ángel del Señor volvió por segunda vez, lo tocó y le dijo: “Levántate, come, porque es muy largo el camino para ti.”

And the messenger of Jehovah turneth back a second time, and cometh against him, and saith, `Rise, eat, for the way is too great for thee;'

8 S e levantó, pues, y comió y bebió, y con la fuerza de aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios. Elías se Encuentra con Dios

and he riseth, and eateth, and drinketh, and goeth in the power of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God -- Horeb.

9 A llí entró en una cueva y pasó en ella la noche; y vino a él la palabra del Señor, y El le dijo: “¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?”

And he cometh in there, unto the cave, and lodgeth there, and lo, the word of Jehovah unto him, and saith to him, `What -- to thee, here, Elijah?'

10 Y él respondió: “He tenido mucho celo por el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos; porque los Israelitas han abandonado Tu pacto, han derribado Tus altares y han matado a espada a Tus profetas. He quedado yo solo y buscan mi vida para quitármela.”

And he saith, `I have been very zealous for Jehovah, God of Hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant -- Thine altars they have thrown down, and Thy prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life -- to take it.'

11 E ntonces el Señor le dijo: “Sal y ponte en el monte delante del Señor.” En ese momento el Señor pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento destrozaba los montes y quebraba las peñas delante del Señor; pero el Señor no estaba en el viento. Después del viento, un terremoto; pero el Señor no estaba en el terremoto.

And He saith, `Go out, and thou hast stood in the mount before Jehovah.' And lo, Jehovah is passing by, and a wind -- great and strong -- is rending mountains, and shivering rocks before Jehovah: -- not in the wind Jehovah; and after the wind a shaking: -- not in the shaking Jehovah;

12 D espués del terremoto, un fuego; pero el Señor no estaba en el fuego. Y después del fuego, el susurro de una brisa apacible.

and after the shaking a fire: -- not in the fire Jehovah; and after the fire a voice still small;

13 C uando Elías lo oyó, se cubrió el rostro con su manto, y salió y se puso a la entrada de la cueva. Y una voz vino a él y le preguntó: “¿Qué haces aquí, Elías ?”

and it cometh to pass, at Elijah's hearing, that he wrappeth his face in his robe, and goeth out, and standeth at the opening of the cave, and lo, unto him a voice, and it saith, `What -- to thee, here, Elijah?'

14 E ntonces él respondió: “He tenido mucho celo por el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos; porque los Israelitas han abandonado Tu pacto, han derribado Tus altares y han matado a espada a Tus profetas. He quedado yo solo y buscan mi vida para quitármela.”

And he saith, `I have been very zealous for Jehovah, God of Hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, Thine altars they have thrown down, and Thy prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life -- to take it.'

15 Y el Señor le dijo: “Ve, regresa por tu camino al desierto de Damasco y cuando hayas llegado, ungirás a Hazael por rey sobre Aram;

And Jehovah saith unto him, `Go turn back on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus, and thou hast gone in, and anointed Hazael for king over Aram,

16 y a Jehú, hijo de Nimsi, ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y a Eliseo, hijo de Safat de Abel Mehola, ungirás por profeta en tu lugar.

and Jehu son of Nimshi thou dost anoint for king over Israel, and Elisha son of Shaphat, of Abel-Meholah, thou dost anoint for prophet in thy stead.

17 A l que escape de la espada de Hazael, Jehú lo matará, y al que escape de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará.

`And it hath been, him who is escaped from the sword of Hazael, put to death doth Jehu, and him who is escaped from the sword of Jehu put to death doth Elisha;

18 P ero dejaré 7, 000 en Israel, todas las rodillas que no se han doblado ante Baal y toda boca que no lo ha besado.” Llamamiento de Eliseo

and I have left in Israel seven thousand, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that hath not kissed him.'

19 E lías partió de allí y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando con doce yuntas de bueyes delante de él, y él estaba con la última. Elías pasó adonde él estaba y le echó su manto encima.

And he goeth thence, and findeth Elisha son of Shaphat, and he is plowing; twelve yoke before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah passeth over unto him, and casteth his robe upon him,

20 D ejando él los bueyes, corrió tras Elías, y dijo: “Permítame besar a mi padre y a mi madre, entonces lo seguiré.” Y él le dijo: “Ve, vuélvete, pues, ¿qué te he hecho yo?”

and he forsaketh the oxen, and runneth after Elijah, and saith, `Let me give a kiss, I pray thee, to my father and to my mother, and I go after thee.' And he saith to him, `Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?'

21 E ntonces se volvió, dejando de seguirlo, tomó un par de bueyes y los sacrificó, y con los aparejos de los bueyes coció su carne, y la dio a la gente y ellos comieron. Después se levantó y fue tras Elías, y le servía.

And he turneth back from after him, and taketh the yoke of oxen, and sacrificeth it, and with instruments of the oxen he hath boiled their flesh, and giveth to the people, and they eat, and he riseth, and goeth after Elijah, and serveth him.
