1 A cabadas estas cosas, se me acercaron los príncipes y me dijeron: “El pueblo de Israel, los sacerdotes y los Levitas no se han separado de los pueblos de las tierras y sus abominaciones: de los Cananeos, Hititas, Ferezeos, Jebuseos, Amonitas, Moabitas, Egipcios y Amorreos;

And at the completion of these things, drawn nigh unto me have the heads, saying, `The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not been separated from the peoples of the lands, as to their abominations, even the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, the Egyptian, and the Amorite,

2 s ino que han tomado mujeres de entre las hijas de ellos para sí y para sus hijos, y el linaje santo se ha mezclado con los pueblos de las tierras; es más, la mano de los príncipes y de los gobernantes ha sido la primera en cometer esta infidelidad.”

for they have taken of their daughters to them, and to their sons, and the holy seed have mingled themselves among the peoples of the lands, and the hand of the heads and of the seconds have been first in this trespass.'

3 C uando oí de este asunto, rasgué mi vestido y mi manto, y arranqué pelo de mi cabeza y de mi barba, y me senté atónito.

And at my hearing this word, I have rent my garment and my upper robe, and pluck out of the hair of my head, and of my beard, and sit astonished,

4 E ntonces se reunieron conmigo todos los que temblaban ante las palabras del Dios de Israel por causa de la infidelidad de los desterrados, y estuve sentado atónito hasta la ofrenda de la tarde.

and unto me are gathered every one trembling at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of the removal, and I am sitting astonished till the present of the evening.

5 P ero a la hora de la ofrenda de la tarde, me levanté de mi humillación con mi vestido y mi manto rasgados, y caí de rodillas y extendí mis manos al Señor mi Dios;

And at the present of the evening I have risen from mine affliction, and at my rending my garment and my upper robe, then I bow down on my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God,

6 y dije: “Dios mío, estoy avergonzado y confuso para poder levantar mi rostro a Ti, mi Dios, porque nuestras iniquidades se han multiplicado por encima de nuestras cabezas, y nuestra culpa ha crecido hasta los cielos.

and say, `O my God, I have been ashamed, and have blushed to lift up, O my God, my face unto Thee, for our iniquities have increased over the head, and our guilt hath become great unto the heavens.

7 D esde los días de nuestros padres hasta el día de hoy hemos estado bajo gran culpa, y a causa de nuestras iniquidades, nosotros, nuestros reyes y nuestros sacerdotes hemos sido entregados en mano de los reyes de estas tierras, a la espada, al cautiverio, al saqueo y a la vergüenza pública, como en este día.

`From the days of our fathers we in great guilt unto this day, and in our iniquities we have been given -- we, our kings, our priests -- into the hand of the kings of the lands, with sword, with captivity, and with spoiling, and with shame of face, as this day.

8 P ero ahora, por un breve momento, ha habido misericordia de parte del Señor nuestro Dios, para dejarnos un remanente que ha escapado y darnos un refugio en Su lugar santo, para que nuestro Dios ilumine nuestros ojos y nos conceda un poco de vida en nuestra servidumbre.

`And now, as a small moment hath grace been from Jehovah our God, to leave to us an escape, and to give to us a nail in His holy place, by our God's enlightening our eyes, and by giving us a little quickening in our servitude;

9 P orque siervos somos; pero en nuestra servidumbre, nuestro Dios no nos ha abandonado, sino que ha extendido Su misericordia sobre nosotros ante los ojos de los reyes de Persia, dándonos ánimo para levantar la casa de nuestro Dios y para restaurar sus ruinas, y dándonos una muralla en Judá y en Jerusalén.

for servants we, and in our servitude our God hath not forsaken us, and stretcheth out unto us kindness before the kings of Persia, to give to us a quickening to lift up the house of our God, and to cause its wastes to cease, and to give to us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

10 “ Y ahora, Dios nuestro, ¿qué diremos después de esto? Porque hemos abandonado Tus mandamientos,

`And now, what do we say, O our God, after this? for we have forsaken Thy commands,

11 q ue por medio de Tus siervos los profetas nos ordenaste: ‘La tierra a la cual ustedes entran para poseerla es una tierra inmunda con la impureza de los pueblos de estas tierras, con sus abominaciones que la han llenado de un extremo a otro, y con su impureza.

that Thou hast commanded by the hands of thy servants the prophets, saying, The land into which ye are going to possess it, a land of impurity, by the impurity of the people of the lands, by their abominations with which they have filled it -- from mouth unto mouth -- by their uncleanness;

12 A hora pues, no den sus hijas a sus hijos ni tomen sus hijas para sus hijos, y nunca procuren la paz de ellos ni su prosperidad, para que ustedes sean fuertes y coman lo mejor de la tierra y la dejen por heredad a sus hijos para siempre.’

and now, your daughters ye do not give to their sons, and their daughters ye do not take to your sons, and ye do not seek their peace, and their good -- unto the age, so that ye are strong, and have eaten the good of the land, and given possession to your sons unto the age.

13 Y después de todo lo que nos ha sobrevenido a causa de nuestras malas obras y nuestra gran culpa, puesto que Tú, nuestro Dios, nos has pagado menos de lo que nuestras iniquidades merecen, y nos has dado un remanente que ha escapado como éste,

`And after all that hath come upon us for our evil works, and for our great guilt (for Thou, O our God, hast kept back of the rod from our iniquities, and hast given to us an escape like this),

14 ¿ hemos de quebrantar de nuevo Tus mandamientos emparentándo nos con los pueblos que cometen estas abominaciones? ¿No Te enojarías con nosotros hasta destruir nos, sin que quedara remanente ni quien escapara?

do we turn back to break Thy commands, and to join ourselves in marriage with the people of these abominations? art not Thou angry against us -- even to consumption -- till there is no remnant and escaped part?

15 O h Señor, Dios de Israel, Tú eres justo, porque hemos quedado un remanente que ha escapado, como en este día. Ahora, estamos delante de Ti con nuestra culpa, porque nadie puede estar delante de Ti a causa de esto.”

`O Jehovah, God of Israel, righteous Thou, for we have been left an escape, as this day; lo, we before Thee in our guilt, for there is none to stand before Thee concerning this.'
