1 ¿ No clama la sabiduría, Y levanta su voz la prudencia?

Doth not wisdom call? And understanding give forth her voice?

2 E n la cima de las alturas, junto al camino, Donde cruzan las sendas, se coloca;

At the head of high places by the way, Between the paths she hath stood,

3 J unto a las puertas, a la salida de la ciudad, En el umbral de las puertas, da voces:

At the side of the gates, at the mouth of the city, The entrance of the openings, she crieth aloud,

4 “ Oh hombres, a ustedes clamo, Para los hijos de los hombres es mi voz.

`Unto you, O men, I call, And my voice unto the sons of men.

5 O h simples, aprendan prudencia; Y ustedes, necios, aprendan sabiduría.

Understand, ye simple ones, prudence, And ye fools, understand the heart,

6 E scuchen, porque hablaré cosas excelentes, Y con el abrir de mis labios rectitud.

Hearken, for noble things I speak, And the opening of my lips uprightness.

7 P orque mi boca proferirá la verdad, Abominación a mis labios es la impiedad.

For truth doth my mouth utter, And an abomination to my lips wickedness.

8 C onforme a la justicia son todas las palabras de mi boca, No hay en ellas nada torcido ni perverso.

In righteousness all the sayings of my mouth, Nothing in them is froward and perverse.

9 T odas son sinceras para el que entiende, Y rectas para los que han hallado conocimiento.

All of them plain to the intelligent, And upright to those finding knowledge.

10 R eciban mi instrucción y no la plata, Y conocimiento antes que el oro escogido,

Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 P orque mejor es la sabiduría que las joyas, Y todas las cosas deseables no pueden compararse con ella. La Sabiduría se Elogia a sí Misma

For better wisdom than rubies, Yea, all delights are not comparable with it.

12 Y o, la sabiduría, habito con la prudencia, Y he hallado conocimiento y discreción.

I, wisdom, have dwelt with prudence, And a knowledge of devices I find out.

13 E l temor del Señor es aborrecer el mal. El orgullo, la arrogancia, el mal camino Y la boca perversa, yo aborrezco.

The fear of Jehovah to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and an evil way, And a froward mouth, I have hated.

14 M ío es el consejo y la prudencia, Yo soy la inteligencia, el poder es mío.

Mine counsel and substance, I understanding, I have might.

15 P or mí reinan los reyes, Y los gobernantes decretan justicia.

By me kings reign, and princes decree righteousness,

16 P or mí gobiernan los príncipes y los nobles, Todos los que juzgan con justicia.

By me do chiefs rule, and nobles, All judges of the earth.

17 A mo a los que me aman, Y los que me buscan con diligencia me hallarán.

I love those loving me, And those seeking me earnestly do find me.

18 C onmigo están las riquezas y el honor, La fortuna duradera y la justicia.

Wealth and honour with me, Lasting substance and righteousness.

19 M i fruto es mejor que el oro, que el oro puro, Y mi ganancia es mejor que la plata escogida.

Better my fruit than gold, even fine gold, And mine increase than choice silver.

20 Y o ando por el camino de la justicia, Por en medio de las sendas del derecho,

In a path of righteousness I cause to walk, In midst of paths of judgment,

21 P ara otorgar heredad a los que me aman Y así llenar sus tesoros.

To cause my lovers to inherit substance, Yea, their treasures I fill.

22 E l Señor me poseyó al principio de Su camino, Antes de Sus obras de tiempos pasados.

Jehovah possessed me -- the beginning of His way, Before His works since then.

23 D esde la eternidad fui establecida, Desde el principio, desde los orígenes de la tierra.

From the age I was anointed, from the first, From former states of the earth.

24 C uando no había abismos fui engendrada, Cuando no había manantiales abundantes en aguas.

In there being no depths, I was brought forth, In there being no fountains heavy waters,

25 A ntes que los montes fueran asentados, Antes que las colinas, fui engendrada,

Before mountains were sunk, Before heights, I was brought forth.

26 C uando El no había hecho aún la tierra y los campos, Ni el polvo primero del mundo.

While He had not made the earth, and out-places, And the top of the dusts of the world.

27 C uando estableció los cielos, allí estaba yo; Cuando trazó un círculo sobre la superficie del abismo,

In His preparing the heavens I there, In His decreeing a circle on the face of the deep,

28 C uando arriba afirmó los cielos, Cuando las fuentes del abismo se afianzaron,

In His strengthening clouds above, In His making strong fountains of the deep,

29 C uando al mar puso sus límites Para que las aguas no transgredieran Su mandato, Cuando señaló los cimientos de la tierra,

In His setting for the sea its limit, And the waters transgress not His command, In His decreeing the foundations of earth,

30 Y o estaba entonces junto a El, como arquitecto; Yo era Su delicia de día en día, Regocijándome en todo tiempo en Su presencia,

Then I am near Him, a workman, And I am a delight -- day by day. Rejoicing before Him at all times,

31 R egocijándome en el mundo, en Su tierra, Y teniendo mis delicias con los hijos de los hombres.

Rejoicing in the habitable part of His earth, And my delights with the sons of men.

32 A hora pues, hijos, escúchenme, Porque bienaventurados son los que guardan mis caminos.

And now, ye sons, hearken to me, Yea, happy are they who keep my ways.

33 E scuchen la instrucción y sean sabios, Y no la desprecien.

Hear instruction, and be wise, and slight not.

34 B ienaventurado el hombre que me escucha, Velando a mis puertas día a día, Aguardando en los postes de mi entrada.

O the happiness of the man hearkening to me, To watch at my doors day by day, To watch at the door-posts of my entrance.

35 P orque el que me halla, halla la vida Y alcanza el favor del Señor.

For whoso is finding me, hath found life, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah.

36 P ero el que peca contra mí, a sí mismo se daña; Todos los que me odian, aman la muerte.”

And whoso is missing me, is wronging his soul, All hating me have loved death!
