1 И сказали сыны пророков Елисею: вот, место, где мы живем при тебе, тесно для нас;

And sons of the prophet say unto Elisha, `Lo, we pray thee, the place where we are dwelling before thee is too strait for us;

2 п ойдем к Иордану и возьмем оттуда каждый по одному бревну и сделаем себе там место для жительства. Он сказал: пойдите.

let us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and we take thence each one beam, and we make for ourselves there a place to dwell there;' and he saith, `Go.'

3 И сказал один: сделай милость, пойди и ты с рабами твоими. И сказал он: пойду.

And the one saith, `Be pleased, I pray thee, and go with thy servants;' and he saith, `I -- I go.'

4 И пошел с ними, и пришли к Иордану и стали рубить деревья.

And he goeth with them, and they come in to the Jordan, and cut down the trees,

5 И когда один валил бревно, топор его упал в воду. И закричал он и сказал: ах, господин мой! а он взят был на подержание!

and it cometh to pass, the one is felling the beam, and the iron hath fallen into the water, and he crieth and saith, `Alas! my lord, and it asked!'

6 И сказал человек Божий: где он упал? Он указал ему место. И отрубил он дерева и бросил туда, и всплыл топор.

And the man of God saith, `Whither hath it fallen?' and he sheweth him the place, and he cutteth a stick, and casteth thither, and causeth the iron to swim,

7 И сказал он: возьми себе. Он протянул руку свою и взял его.

and saith, `Raise to thee;' and he putteth forth his hand and taketh it.

8 Ц арь Сирийский пошел войною на Израильтян, и советовался со слугами своими, говоря: в таком-то и в таком-то месте я расположу свой стан.

And the king of Aram hath been fighting against Israel, and taketh counsel with his servants, saying, `At such and such a place my encamping.'

9 И посылал человек Божий к царю Израильскому сказать: берегись проходить сим местом, ибо там Сирияне залегли.

And the man of God sendeth unto the king of Israel, saying, `Take heed of passing by this place, for thither are the Aramaeans coming down;

10 И посылал царь Израильский на то место, о котором говорил ему человек Божий и предостерегал его; и сберег себя там не раз и не два.

and the king of Israel sendeth unto the place of which the man of God spake to him, and warned him, and he is preserved there not once nor twice.

11 И встревожилось сердце царя Сирийского по сему случаю, и призвал он рабов своих и сказал им: скажите мне, кто из наших с царем Израильским?

And the heart of the king of Aram is tossed about concerning this thing, and he calleth unto his servants, and saith unto them, `Do ye not declare to me who of us for the king of Israel?'

12 И сказал один из слуг его: никто, господин мой царь; а Елисей пророк, который у Израиля, пересказывает царю Израильскому и те слова, которые ты говоришь в спальной комнате твоей.

And one of his servants saith, `Nay, my lord, O king, for Elisha the prophet, who in Israel, declareth to the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in the inner part of thy bed-chamber.'

13 И сказал он: пойдите, узнайте, где он; я пошлю и возьму его. И донесли ему и сказали: вот, он в Дофаиме.

And he saith, `Go ye and see where he, and I send and take him;' and it is declared to him, saying, `Lo -- in Dothan.'

14 И послал туда коней и колесницы и много войска. И пришли ночью и окружили город.

And he sendeth thither horses and chariot, and a heavy force, and they come in by night, and go round against the city.

15 П оутру служитель человека Божия встал и вышел; и вот, войско вокруг города, и кони и колесницы. И сказал ему слуга его: увы! господин мой, что нам делать?

And the servant of the man of God riseth early, and goeth out, and lo, a force is surrounding the city, and horse and chariot, and his young man saith unto him, `Alas! my lord, how do we do?'

16 И сказал он: не бойся, потому что тех, которые с нами, больше, нежели тех, которые с ними.

And he saith, `Fear not, for more they who with us than they who with them.'

17 И молился Елисей, и говорил: Господи! открой ему глаза, чтоб он увидел. И открыл Господь глаза слуге, и он увидел, и вот, вся гора наполнена конями и колесницами огненными кругом Елисея.

And Elisha prayeth, and saith, `Jehovah, open, I pray Thee, his eyes, and he doth see;' and Jehovah openeth the eyes of the young man, and he seeth, and lo, the hill is full of horses and chariots of fire, round about Elisha.

18 К огда пошли к нему Сирияне, Елисей помолился Господу и сказал: порази их слепотою. И Он поразил их слепотою по слову Елисея.

And they come down unto it, and Elisha prayeth unto Jehovah, and saith, `Smite, I pray Thee, this nation with blindness;' and He smiteth them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha.

19 И сказал им Елисей: это не та дорога и не тот город; идите за мною, и я провожу вас к тому человеку, которого вы ищете. И привел их в Самарию.

And Elisha saith unto them, `This not the way, nor this the city; come after me, and I lead you unto the man whom ye seek;' and he leadeth them to Samaria.

20 К огда они пришли в Самарию, Елисей сказал: Господи! открой глаза им, чтобы они видели. И открыл Господь глаза их, и увидели, что они в средине Самарии.

And it cometh to pass, at their coming in to Samaria, that Elisha saith, `Jehovah, open the eyes of these, and they see;' and Jehovah openeth their eyes, and they see, and lo, in the midst of Samaria!

21 И сказал царь Израильский Елисею, увидев их: не избить ли их, отец мой?

And the king of Israel saith unto Elisha, at his seeing them, `Do I smite -- do I smite -- my father?'

22 И сказал он: не убивай. Разве мечом твоим и луком твоим ты пленил их, чтобы убивать их? Предложи им хлеба и воды; пусть едят и пьют, и пойдут к государю своему.

And he saith, `Thou dost not smite; those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow art thou smiting? set bread and water before them, and they eat, and drink, and go unto their lord.'

23 И приготовил им большой обед, и они ели и пили. И отпустил их, и пошли к государю своему. И не ходили более те полчища Сирийские в землю Израилеву.

And he prepareth for them great provision, and they eat and drink, and he sendeth them away, and they go unto their lord: and troops of Aram have not added any more to come in to the land of Israel.

24 П осле того собрал Венадад, царь Сирийский, все войско свое и выступил, и осадил Самарию.

And it cometh to pass afterwards, that Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathereth all his camp, and goeth up, and layeth siege to Samaria,

25 И был большой голод в Самарии, когда они осадили ее, так что ослиная голова продавалась по восьмидесяти сиклей серебра, и четвертая часть каба голубиного помета--по пяти сиклей серебра.

and there is a great famine in Samaria, and lo, they are laying siege to it, till the head of an ass is at eighty silverlings, and a forth of the cab of dovesdung at five silverlings.

26 О днажды царь Израильский проходил по стене, и женщина с воплем говорила ему: помоги, господин мой царь.

And it cometh to pass, the king of Israel is passing by on the wall, and a woman hath cried unto him, saying, `Save, my lord, O king.'

27 И сказал он: если не поможет тебе Господь, из чего я помогу тебе? с гумна ли, с точила ли?

And he saith, `Jehovah doth not save thee -- whence do I save thee? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the wine-vat?'

28 И сказал ей царь: что тебе? И сказала она: эта женщина говорила мне: 'отдай своего сына, съедим его сегодня, а сына моего съедим завтра'.

And the king saith to her, `What -- to thee?' and she saith, `This woman said unto me, Give thy son, and we eat him to-day, and my son we eat to-morrow;

29 И сварили мы моего сына, и съели его. И я сказала ей на другой день: 'отдай же твоего сына, и съедим его'. Но она спрятала своего сына.

and we boil my son and eat him, and I say unto her on the next day, Give thy son, and we eat him; and she hideth her son.'

30 Ц арь, выслушав слова женщины, разодрал одежды свои; и проходил он по стене, и народ видел, что вретище на самом теле его.

And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the woman, that he rendeth his garments, and he is passing by on the wall, and the people see, and lo, the sackcloth on his flesh within.

31 И сказал: пусть то и то сделает мне Бог, и еще более сделает, если останется голова Елисея, сына Сафатова, на нем сегодня.

And he saith, `Thus doth God do to me, and thus He doth add -- if it remain -- the head of Elisha son of Shaphat -- upon him this day.'

32 Е лисей же сидел в своем доме, и старцы сидели у него. И послал человека от себя. Прежде нежели пришел посланный к нему, он сказал старцам: видите ли, что этот сын убийцы послал снять с меня голову? Смотрите, когда придет посланный, затворите дверь и прижмите его дверью. А вот и топот ног господина его за ним!

And Elisha is sitting in his house, and the elders are sitting with him, and sendeth a man from before him; before the messenger doth come unto him, even he himself said unto the elders, `Have ye seen that this son of the murderer hath sent to turn aside my head? see, at the coming in of the messenger, shut the door, and ye have held him fast at the door, is not the sound of the feet of his lord behind him?'

33 Е ще говорил он с ними, и вот посланный приходит к нему, и сказал: вот какое бедствие от Господа! чего мне впредь ждать от Господа?

He is yet speaking with them, and lo, the messenger is coming down unto him, and he saith, `Lo, this the evil from Jehovah: what -- do I wait for Jehovah any more?'
