1 К ак уже многие начали составлять повествования о совершенно известных между нами событиях,

Seeing that many did take in hand to set in order a narration of the matters that have been fully assured among us,

2 к ак передали нам то бывшие с самого начала очевидцами и служителями Слова,

as they did deliver to us, who from the beginning became eye-witnesses, and officers of the Word, --

3 т о рассудилось и мне, по тщательном исследовании всего сначала, по порядку описать тебе, достопочтенный Феофил,

it seemed good also to me, having followed from the first after all things exactly, to write to thee in order, most noble Theophilus,

4 ч тобы ты узнал твердое основание того учения, в котором был наставлен.

that thou mayest know the certainty of the things wherein thou wast instructed.

5 В о дни Ирода, царя Иудейского, был священник из Авиевой чреды, именем Захария, и жена его из рода Ааронова, имя ей Елисавета.

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abijah, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elisabeth;

6 О ба они были праведны пред Богом, поступая по всем заповедям и уставам Господним беспорочно.

and they were both righteous before God, going on in all the commands and righteousnesses of the Lord blameless,

7 У них не было детей, ибо Елисавета была неплодна, и оба были уже в летах преклонных.

and they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and both were advanced in their days.

8 О днажды, когда он в порядке своей чреды служил пред Богом,

And it came to pass, in his acting as priest, in the order of his course before God,

9 п о жребию, как обыкновенно было у священников, досталось ему войти в храм Господень для каждения,

according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot was to make perfume, having gone into the sanctuary of the Lord,

10 а всё множество народа молилось вне во время каждения, --

and all the multitude of the people were praying without, at the hour of the perfume.

11 т огда явился ему Ангел Господень, стоя по правую сторону жертвенника кадильного.

And there appeared to him a messenger of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of the perfume,

12 З ахария, увидев его, смутился, и страх напал на него.

and Zacharias, having seen, was troubled, and fear fell on him;

13 А нгел же сказал ему: не бойся, Захария, ибо услышана молитва твоя, и жена твоя Елисавета родит тебе сына, и наречешь ему имя: Иоанн;

and the messenger said unto him, `Fear not, Zacharias, for thy supplication was heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear a son to thee, and thou shalt call his name John,

14 и будет тебе радость и веселие, и многие о рождении его возрадуются,

and there shall be joy to thee, and gladness, and many at his birth shall joy,

15 и бо он будет велик пред Господом; не будет пить вина и сикера, и Духа Святаго исполнится еще от чрева матери своей;

for he shall be great before the Lord, and wine and strong drink he may not drink, and of the Holy Spirit he shall be full, even from his mother's womb;

16 и многих из сынов Израилевых обратит к Господу Богу их;

and many of the sons of Israel he shall turn to the Lord their God,

17 и предъидет пред Ним в духе и силе Илии, чтобы возвратить сердца отцов детям, и непокоривым образ мыслей праведников, дабы представить Господу народ приготовленный.

and he shall go before Him, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn hearts of fathers unto children, and disobedient ones to the wisdom of righteous ones, to make ready for the Lord, a people prepared.'

18 И сказал Захария Ангелу: по чему я узнаю это? ибо я стар, и жена моя в летах преклонных.

And Zacharias said unto the messenger, `Whereby shall I know this? for I am aged, and my wife is advanced in her days?'

19 А нгел сказал ему в ответ: я Гавриил, предстоящий пред Богом, и послан говорить с тобою и благовестить тебе сие;

And the messenger answering said to him, `I am Gabriel, who have been standing near before God, and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to proclaim these good news to thee,

20 и вот, ты будешь молчать и не будешь иметь возможности говорить до того дня, как это сбудется, за то, что ты не поверил словам моим, которые сбудутся в свое время.

and lo, thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, till the day that these things shall come to pass, because thou didst not believe my words, that shall be fulfilled in their season.'

21 М ежду тем народ ожидал Захарию и дивился, что он медлит в храме.

And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and wondering at his tarrying in the sanctuary,

22 О н же, выйдя, не мог говорить к ним; и они поняли, что он видел видение в храме; и он объяснялся с ними знаками, и оставался нем.

and having come out, he was not able to speak to them, and they perceived that a vision he had seen in the sanctuary, and he was beckoning to them, and did remain dumb.

23 А когда окончились дни службы его, возвратился в дом свой.

And it came to pass, when the days of his service were fulfilled, he went away to his house,

24 П осле сих дней зачала Елисавета, жена его, и таилась пять месяцев и говорила:

and after those days, his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying --

25 т ак сотворил мне Господь во дни сии, в которые призрел на меня, чтобы снять с меня поношение между людьми.

`Thus hath the Lord done to me, in days in which He looked upon, to take away my reproach among men.'

26 В шестой же месяц послан был Ангел Гавриил от Бога в город Галилейский, называемый Назарет,

And in the sixth month was the messenger Gabriel sent by God, to a city of Galilee, the name of which Nazareth,

27 к Деве, обрученной мужу, именем Иосифу, из дома Давидова; имя же Деве: Мария.

to a virgin, betrothed to a man, whose name Joseph, of the house of David, and the name of the virgin Mary.

28 А нгел, войдя к Ней, сказал: радуйся, Благодатная! Господь с Тобою; благословенна Ты между женами.

And the messenger having come in unto her, said, `Hail, favoured one, the Lord with thee; blessed thou among women;'

29 О на же, увидев его, смутилась от слов его и размышляла, что бы это было за приветствие.

and she, having seen, was troubled at his word, and was reasoning of what kind this salutation may be.

30 И сказал Ей Ангел: не бойся, Мария, ибо Ты обрела благодать у Бога;

And the messenger said to her, `Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God;

31 и вот, зачнешь во чреве, и родишь Сына, и наречешь Ему имя: Иисус.

and lo, thou shalt conceive in the womb, and shalt bring forth a son, and call his name Jesus;

32 О н будет велик и наречется Сыном Всевышнего, и даст Ему Господь Бог престол Давида, отца Его;

he shall be great, and Son of the Highest he shall be called, and the Lord God shall give him the throne of David his father,

33 и будет царствовать над домом Иакова во веки, и Царству Его не будет конца.

and he shall reign over the house of Jacob to the ages; and of his reign there shall be no end.'

34 М ария же сказала Ангелу: как будет это, когда Я мужа не знаю?

And Mary said unto the messenger, `How shall this be, seeing a husband I do not know?'

35 А нгел сказал Ей в ответ: Дух Святый найдет на Тебя, и сила Всевышнего осенит Тебя; посему и рождаемое Святое наречется Сыном Божиим.

And the messenger answering said to her, `The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee, therefore also the holy-begotten thing shall be called Son of God;

36 В от и Елисавета, родственница Твоя, называемая неплодною, и она зачала сына в старости своей, и ей уже шестой месяц,

and lo, Elisabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her who was called barren;

37 и бо у Бога не останется бессильным никакое слово.

because nothing shall be impossible with God.'

38 Т огда Мария сказала: се, Раба Господня; да будет Мне по слову твоему. И отошел от Нее Ангел.

And Mary said, `Lo, the maid-servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to thy saying,' and the messenger went away from her.

39 В став же Мария во дни сии, с поспешностью пошла в нагорную страну, в город Иудин,

And Mary having arisen in those days, went to the hill-country, with haste, to a city of Judea,

40 и вошла в дом Захарии, и приветствовала Елисавету.

and entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.

41 К огда Елисавета услышала приветствие Марии, взыграл младенец во чреве ее; и Елисавета исполнилась Святаго Духа,

And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe did leap in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,

42 и воскликнула громким голосом, и сказала: благословенна Ты между женами, и благословен плод чрева Твоего!

and spake out with a loud voice, and said, `Blessed thou among women, and blessed the fruit of thy womb;

43 И откуда это мне, что пришла Матерь Господа моего ко мне?

and whence this to me, that the mother of my Lord might come unto me?

44 И бо когда голос приветствия Твоего дошел до слуха моего, взыграл младенец радостно во чреве моем.

for, lo, when the voice of thy salutation came to my ears, leap in gladness did the babe in my womb;

45 И блаженна Уверовавшая, потому что совершится сказанное Ей от Господа.

and happy she who did believe, for there shall be a completion to the things spoken to her from the Lord.'

46 И сказала Мария: величит душа Моя Господа,

And Mary said, `My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47 и возрадовался дух Мой о Боге, Спасителе Моем,

And my spirit was glad on God my Saviour,

48 ч то призрел Он на смирение Рабы Своей, ибо отныне будут ублажать Меня все роды;

Because He looked on the lowliness of His maid-servant, For, lo, henceforth call me happy shall all the generations,

49 ч то сотворил Мне величие Сильный, и свято имя Его;

For He who is mighty did to me great things, And holy His name,

50 и милость Его в роды родов к боящимся Его;

And His kindness to generations of generations, To those fearing Him,

51 я вил силу мышцы Своей; рассеял надменных помышлениями сердца их;

He did powerfully with His arm, He scattered abroad the proud in the thought of their heart,

52 н изложил сильных с престолов, и вознес смиренных;

He brought down the mighty from thrones, And He exalted the lowly,

53 а лчущих исполнил благ, и богатящихся отпустил ни с чем;

The hungry He did fill with good, And the rich He sent away empty,

54 в оспринял Израиля, отрока Своего, воспомянув милость,

He received again Israel His servant, To remember kindness,

55 к ак говорил отцам нашим, к Аврааму и семени его до века.

As He spake unto our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed -- to the age.'

56 П ребыла же Мария с нею около трех месяцев, и возвратилась в дом свой.

And Mary remained with her about three months, and turned back to her house.

57 Е лисавете же настало время родить, и она родила сына.

And to Elisabeth was the time fulfilled for her bringing forth, and she bare a son,

58 И услышали соседи и родственники ее, что возвеличил Господь милость Свою над нею, и радовались с нею.

and the neighbours and her kindred heard that the Lord was making His kindness great with her, and they were rejoicing with her.

59 В восьмой день пришли обрезать младенца и хотели назвать его, по имени отца его, Захариею.

And it came to pass, on the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child, and they were calling him by the name of his father, Zacharias,

60 Н а это мать его сказала: нет, а назвать его Иоанном.

and his mother answering said, `No, but he shall be called John.'

61 И сказали ей: никого нет в родстве твоем, кто назывался бы сим именем.

And they said unto her -- `There is none among thy kindred who is called by this name,'

62 И спрашивали знаками у отца его, как бы он хотел назвать его.

and they were making signs to his father, what he would wish him to be called,

63 О н потребовал дощечку и написал: Иоанн имя ему. И все удивились.

and having asked for a tablet, he wrote, saying, `John is his name;' and they did all wonder;

64 И тотчас разрешились уста его и язык его, и он стал говорить, благословляя Бога.

and his mouth was opened presently, and his tongue, and he was speaking, praising God.

65 И был страх на всех живущих вокруг них; и рассказывали обо всем этом по всей нагорной стране Иудейской.

And fear came upon all those dwelling around them, and in all the hill-country of Judea were all these sayings spoken of,

66 В се слышавшие положили это на сердце своем и говорили: что будет младенец сей? И рука Господня была с ним.

and all who heard did lay them up in their hearts, saying, `What then shall this child be?' and the hand of the Lord was with him.

67 И Захария, отец его, исполнился Святаго Духа и пророчествовал, говоря:

And Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and did prophesy, saying,

68 б лагословен Господь Бог Израилев, что посетил народ Свой и сотворил избавление ему,

`Blessed the Lord, the God of Israel, Because He did look upon, And wrought redemption for His people,

69 и воздвиг рог спасения нам в дому Давида, отрока Своего,

And did raise an horn of salvation to us, In the house of David His servant,

70 к ак возвестил устами бывших от века святых пророков Своих,

As He spake by the mouth of His holy prophets, Which have been from the age;

71 ч то спасет нас от врагов наших и от руки всех ненавидящих нас;

Salvation from our enemies, And out of the hand of all hating us,

72 с отворит милость с отцами нашими и помянет святой завет Свой,

To do kindness with our fathers, And to be mindful of His holy covenant,

73 к лятву, которою клялся Он Аврааму, отцу нашему, дать нам,

An oath that He sware to Abraham our father,

74 н ебоязненно, по избавлении от руки врагов наших,

To give to us, without fear, Out of the hand of our enemies having been delivered,

75 с лужить Ему в святости и правде пред Ним, во все дни жизни нашей.

To serve Him, in holiness and righteousness Before Him, all the days of our life.

76 И ты, младенец, наречешься пророком Всевышнего, ибо предъидешь пред лицем Господа приготовить пути Ему,

And thou, child, Prophet of the Highest Shalt thou be called; For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, To prepare His ways.

77 д ать уразуметь народу Его спасение в прощении грехов их,

To give knowledge of salvation to His people In remission of their sins,

78 п о благоутробному милосердию Бога нашего, которым посетил нас Восток свыше,

Through the tender mercies of our God, In which the rising from on high did look upon us,

79 п росветить сидящих во тьме и тени смертной, направить ноги наши на путь мира.

To give light to those sitting in darkness and death-shade, To guide our feet to a way of peace.'

80 М ладенец же возрастал и укреплялся духом, и был в пустынях до дня явления своего Израилю.

And the child grew, and was strengthened in spirit, and he was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
