1 В то время Иуда отошел от братьев своих и поселился близ одного Одолламитянина, которому имя: Хира.

And it cometh to pass, at that time, that Judah goeth down from his brethren, and turneth aside unto a man, an Adullamite, whose name Hirah;

2 И увидел там Иуда дочь одного Хананеянина, которому имя: Шуа; и взял ее и вошел к ней.

and Judah seeth there the daughter of a man, a Canaanite, whose name Shuah, and taketh her, and goeth in unto her.

3 О на зачала и родила сына; и он нарек ему имя: Ир.

And she conceiveth, and beareth a son, and he calleth his name Er;

4 И зачала опять, и родила сына, и нарекла ему имя: Онан.

and she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Onan;

5 И еще родила сына и нарекла ему имя: Шела. Иуда был в Хезиве, когда она родила его.

and she addeth again, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Shelah; and he was in Chezib in her bearing him.

6 И взял Иуда жену Иру, первенцу своему; имя ей Фамарь.

And Judah taketh a wife for Er, his first-born, and her name Tamar;

7 И р, первенец Иудин, был неугоден пред очами Господа, и умертвил его Господь.

and Er, Judah's first-born, is evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth put him to death.

8 И сказал Иуда Онану: войди к жене брата твоего, женись на ней, как деверь, и восстанови семя брату твоему.

And Judah saith to Onan, `Go in unto the wife of thy brother, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother;'

9 О нан знал, что семя будет не ему, и потому, когда входил к жене брата своего, изливал на землю, чтобы не дать семени брату своему.

and Onan knoweth that the seed is not his; and it hath come to pass, if he hath gone in unto his brother's wife, that he hath destroyed to the earth, so as not to give seed to his brother;

10 З ло было пред очами Господа то, что он делал; и Он умертвил и его.

and that which he hath done is evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and He putteth him also to death.

11 И сказал Иуда Фамари, невестке своей: живи вдовою в доме отца твоего, пока подрастет Шела, сын мой. Ибо он сказал: не умер бы и он подобно братьям его. Фамарь пошла и стала жить в доме отца своего.

And Judah saith to Tamar his daughter-in-law, `Abide a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son groweth up;' for he said, `Lest he die -- even he -- like his brethren;' and Tamar goeth and dwelleth at her father's house.

12 П рошло много времени, и умерла дочь Шуи, жена Иудина. Иуда, утешившись, пошел в Фамну к стригущим скот его, сам и Хира, друг его, Одолламитянин.

And the days are multiplied, and the daughter of Shuah, Judah's wife, dieth; and Judah is comforted, and goeth up unto his sheep-shearers, he and Hirah his friend the Adullamite, to Timnath.

13 И уведомили Фамарь, говоря: вот, свекор твой идет в Фамну стричь скот свой.

And it is declared to Tamar, saying, `Lo, thy husband's father is going up to Timnath to shear his flock;'

14 И сняла она с себя одежду вдовства своего, покрыла себя покрывалом и, закрывшись, села у ворот Енаима, что на дороге в Фамну. Ибо видела, что Шела вырос, и она не дана ему в жену.

and she turneth aside the garments of her widowhood from off her, and covereth herself with a vail, and wrappeth herself up, and sitteth in the opening of Enayim, which by the way to Timnath, for she hath seen that Shelah hath grown up, and she hath not been given to him for a wife.

15 И увидел ее Иуда и почел ее за блудницу, потому что она закрыла лице свое.

And Judah seeth her, and reckoneth her for a harlot, for she hath covered her face,

16 О н поворотил к ней и сказал: войду я к тебе. Ибо не знал, что это невестка его. Она сказала: что ты дашь мне, если войдешь ко мне?

and he turneth aside unto her by the way, and saith, `Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee,' (for he hath not known that she his daughter-in-law); and she saith, `What dost thou give to me, that thou mayest come in unto me?'

17 О н сказал: я пришлю тебе козленка из стада. Она сказала: дашь ли ты мне залог, пока пришлешь?

and he saith, `I -- I send a kid of the goats from the flock.' And she saith, `Dost thou give a pledge till thou send ?'

18 О н сказал: какой дать тебе залог? Она сказала: печать твою, и перевязь твою, и трость твою, которая в руке твоей. И дал он ей и вошел к ней; и она зачала от него.

and he saith, `What the pledge that I give to thee?' and she saith, `Thy seal, and thy ribbon, and thy staff which in thy hand;' and he giveth to her, and goeth in unto her, and she conceiveth to him;

19 И , встав, пошла, сняла с себя покрывало свое и оделась в одежду вдовства своего.

and she riseth, and goeth, and turneth aside her vail from off her, and putteth on the garments of her widowhood.

20 И уда же послал козленка чрез друга своего Одолламитянина, чтобы взять залог из руки женщины, но он не нашел ее.

And Judah sendeth the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the hand of the woman, and he hath not found her.

21 И спросил жителей того места, говоря: где блудница, в Енаиме при дороге? Но они сказали: здесь не было блудницы.

And he asketh the men of her place, saying, `Where the separated one -- she in Enayim, by the way?' and they say, `There hath not been in this a separated one.'

22 И возвратился он к Иуде и сказал: я не нашел ее; да и жители места того сказали: здесь не было блудницы.

And he turneth back unto Judah, and saith, `I have not found her; and the men of the place also have said, There hath not been in this a separated one,'

23 И уда сказал: пусть она возьмет себе, чтобы только не стали над нами смеяться; вот, я посылал этого козленка, но ты не нашел ее.

and Judah saith, `Let her take to herself, lest we become despised; lo, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.'

24 П рошло около трех месяцев, и сказали Иуде, говоря: Фамарь, невестка твоя, впала в блуд, и вот, она беременна от блуда. Иуда сказал: выведите ее, и пусть она будет сожжена.

And it cometh to pass about three months, that it is declared to Judah, saying, `Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath committed fornication; and also, lo, she hath conceived by fornication:' and Judah saith, `Bring her out -- and she is burnt.'

25 Н о когда повели ее, она послала сказать свекру своему: я беременна от того, чьи эти вещи. И сказала: узнавай, чья эта печать и перевязь и трость.

She is brought out, and she hath sent unto her husband's father, saying, `To a man whose these, I pregnant;' and she saith, `Discern, I pray thee, whose these -- the seal, and the ribbons, and the staff.'

26 И уда узнал и сказал: она правее меня, потому что я не дал ее Шеле, сыну моему. И не познавал ее более.

And Judah discerneth and saith, `She hath been more righteous than I, because that I did not give her to Shelah my son;' and he hath not added to know her again.

27 В о время родов ее оказалось, что близнецы в утробе ее.

And it cometh to pass in the time of her bearing, that lo, twins in her womb;

28 И во время родов ее показалась рука; и взяла повивальная бабка и навязала ему на руку красную нить, сказав: этот вышел первый.

and it cometh to pass in her bearing, that giveth out a hand, and the midwife taketh and bindeth on his hand a scarlet thread, saying, `This hath come out first.'

29 Н о он возвратил руку свою; и вот, вышел брат его. И она сказала: как ты расторг себе преграду? И наречено ему имя: Фарес.

And it cometh to pass as he draweth back his hand, that lo, his brother hath come out, and she saith, `What! thou hast broken forth -- on thee the breach;' and he calleth his name Pharez;

30 П отом вышел брат его с красной нитью на руке. И наречено ему имя: Зара.

and afterwards hath his brother come out, on whose hand the scarlet thread, and he calleth his name Zarah.
