1 Т акое видение открыл мне Господь Бог: вот, Он создал саранчу в начале произрастания поздней травы, и это была трава после царского покоса.

Thus hath the Lord Jehovah shewed me, and lo, He is forming locusts at the beginning of the ascending of the latter growth, and lo, the latter growth after the mowings of the king;

2 И было, когда она окончила есть траву на земле, я сказал: Господи Боже! пощади; как устоит Иаков? он очень мал.

and it hath come to pass, when it hath finished to consume the herb of the land, that I say: `Lord Jehovah, forgive, I pray Thee, How doth Jacob arise -- for he small?'

3 И пожалел Господь о том; 'не будет сего', сказал Господь.

Jehovah hath repented of this, `It shall not be,' said Jehovah.

4 Т акое видение открыл мне Господь Бог: вот, Господь Бог произвел для суда огонь, --и он пожрал великую пучину, пожрал и часть земли.

Thus hath the Lord Jehovah shewed me, and lo, the Lord Jehovah is calling to contend by fire, and it consumeth the great deep, yea, it hath consumed the portion, and I say:

5 И сказал я: Господи Боже! останови; как устоит Иаков? он очень мал.

`Lord Jehovah, cease, I pray Thee, How doth Jacob arise -- for he small?'

6 И пожалел Господь о том; 'и этого не будет', сказал Господь Бог.

Jehovah hath repented of this, `It also shall not be,' said the Lord Jehovah.

7 Т акое видение открыл Он мне: вот, Господь стоял на отвесной стене, и в руке у Него свинцовый отвес.

Thus hath He shewed me, and lo, the Lord is standing by a wall a plumb-line, and in His hand a plumb-line;

8 И сказал мне Господь: что ты видишь, Амос? Я ответил: отвес. И Господь сказал: вот, положу отвес среди народа Моего, Израиля; не буду более прощать ему.

and Jehovah saith unto me, `What art thou seeing, Amos?' And I say, `A plumb-line;' and the Lord saith: `Lo, I am setting a plumb-line in the midst of My people Israel, I do not add any more to pass over to it.

9 И опустошены будут высоты Исааковы, и разрушены будут святилища Израилевы, и восстану с мечом против дома Иеровоамова.

And desolated have been high places of Isaac, And sanctuaries of Israel are wasted, And I have risen against the house of Jeroboam with a sword.'

10 И послал Амасия, священник Вефильский, к Иеровоаму, царю Израильскому, сказать: Амос производит возмущение против тебя среди дома Израилева; земля не может терпеть всех слов его.

And Amaziah priest of Beth-El sendeth unto Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, `Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words,

11 И бо так говорит Амос: 'от меча умрет Иеровоам, а Израиль непременно отведен будет пленным из земли своей'.

for thus said Amos: By sword die doth Jeroboam, And Israel certainly removeth from off its land.'

12 И сказал Амасия Амосу: провидец! пойди и удались в землю Иудину; там ешь хлеб, и там пророчествуй,

And Amaziah saith unto Amos, `Seer, go flee for thee unto the land of Judah, and eat there bread, and there thou dost prophesy;

13 а в Вефиле больше не пророчествуй, ибо он святыня царя и дом царский.

and Beth-El do not add to prophesy any more, for it the king's sanctuary, and it the royal house.'

14 И отвечал Амос и сказал Амасии: я не пророк и не сын пророка; я был пастух и собирал сикоморы.

And Amos answereth and saith unto Amaziah, `I no prophet, nor a prophet's son I, but a herdsman I, and a cultivator of sycamores,

15 Н о Господь взял меня от овец и сказал мне Господь: 'иди, пророчествуй к народу Моему, Израилю'.

and Jehovah taketh me from after the flock, and Jehovah saith unto me, Go, prophesy unto My people Israel.

16 Т еперь выслушай слово Господне. Ты говоришь: 'не пророчествуй на Израиля и не произноси слов на дом Исааков'.

And now, hear a word of Jehovah: thou art saying, Do not prophesy against Israel, nor drop against the house of Isaac,

17 З а это, вот что говорит Господь: жена твоя будет обесчещена в городе, сыновья и дочери твои падут от меча, земля твоя будет разделена межевою вервью, а ты умрешь в земле нечистой, и Израиль непременно выведен будет из земли своей.

therefore thus said Jehovah: Thy wife in the city doth go a-whoring, And thy sons and thy daughters by sword do fall, And thy land by line is apportioned, And thou on an unclean land diest, And Israel certainly removeth from off its land.'
