1 Я же, Павел, который лично между вами скромен, а заочно против вас отважен, убеждаю вас кротостью и снисхождением Христовым.

And I, Paul, myself, do call upon you -- through the meekness and gentleness of the Christ -- who in presence, indeed humble among you, and being absent, have courage toward you,

2 П рошу, чтобы мне по пришествии моем не прибегать к той твердой смелости, которую думаю употребить против некоторых, помышляющих о нас, что мы поступаем по плоти.

and I beseech, that, being present, I may not have courage, with the confidence with which I reckon to be bold against certain reckoning us as walking according to the flesh;

3 И бо мы, ходя во плоти, не по плоти воинствуем.

for walking in the flesh, not according to the flesh do we war,

4 О ружия воинствования нашего не плотские, но сильные Богом на разрушение твердынь: ниспровергаем замыслы

for the weapons of our warfare not fleshly, but powerful to God for bringing down of strongholds,

5 и всякое превозношение, восстающее против познания Божия, и пленяем всякое помышление в послушание Христу,

reasonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ,

6 и готовы наказать всякое непослушание, когда ваше послушание исполнится.

and being in readiness to avenge every disobedience, whenever your obedience may be fulfilled.

7 Н а личность ли смотрите? Кто уверен в себе, что он Христов, тот сам по себе суди, что, как он Христов, так и мы Христовы.

The things in presence do ye see? if any one hath trusted in himself to be Christ's, this let him reckon again from himself, that according as he is Christ's, so also we Christ's;

8 И бо если бы я и более стал хвалиться нашею властью, которую Господь дал нам к созиданию, а не к расстройству вашему, то не остался бы в стыде.

for even if also anything more abundantly I shall boast concerning our authority, that the Lord gave us for building up, and not for casting you down, I shall not be ashamed;

9 В прочем, да не покажется, что я устрашаю вас посланиями.

that I may not seem as if I would terrify you through the letters,

10 Т ак как говорит: в посланиях он строг и силен, а в личном присутствии слаб, и речь незначительна, --

`because the letters indeed -- saith one -- weighty and strong, and the bodily presence weak, and the speech despicable.'

11 т акой пусть знает, что, каковы мы на словах в посланиях заочно, таковы и на деле лично.

This one -- let him reckon thus: that such as we are in word, through letters, being absent, such also, being present, in deed.

12 И бо мы не смеем сопоставлять или сравнивать себя с теми, которые сами себя выставляют: они измеряют себя самими собою и сравнивают себя с собою неразумно.

For we do not make bold to rank or to compare ourselves with certain of those commending themselves, but they, among themselves measuring themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are not wise,

13 А мы не без меры хвалиться будем, но по мере удела, какой назначил нам Бог в такую меру, чтобы достигнуть и до вас.

and we in regard to the unmeasured things will not boast ourselves, but after the measure of the line that the God of measure did appoint to us -- to reach even unto you;

14 И бо мы не напрягаем себя, как не достигшие до вас, потому что достигли и до вас благовествованием Христовым.

for not as not reaching to you do we stretch ourselves overmuch, for even unto you did we come in the good news of the Christ,

15 М ы не без меры хвалимся, не чужими трудами, но надеемся, с возрастанием веры вашей, с избытком увеличить в вас удел наш,

not boasting of the things not measured, in other men's labours, and having hope -- your faith increasing -- in you to be enlarged, according to our line -- into abundance,

16 т ак чтобы и далее вас проповедывать Евангелие, а не хвалиться готовым в чужом уделе.

in the beyond you to proclaim good news, not in another's line in regard to the things made ready, to boast;

17 Х валящийся хвались о Господе.

and he who is boasting -- in the Lord let him boast;

18 И бо не тот достоин, кто сам себя хвалит, но кого хвалит Господь.

for not he who is commending himself is approved, but he whom the Lord doth commend.
