1 В эти дни, когда умножились ученики, произошел у Еллинистов ропот на Евреев за то, что вдовицы их пренебрегаемы были в ежедневном раздаянии потребностей.

And in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration,

2 Т огда двенадцать, созвав множество учеников, сказали: нехорошо нам, оставив слово Божие, пещись о столах.

and the twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, `It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, do minister at tables;

3 И так, братия, выберите из среды себя семь человек изведанных, исполненных Святаго Духа и мудрости; их поставим на эту службу,

look out, therefore, brethren, seven men of you who are well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,

4 а мы постоянно пребудем в молитве и служении слова.

and we to prayer, and to the ministration of the word, will give ourselves continually.'

5 И угодно было это предложение всему собранию; и избрали Стефана, мужа, исполненного веры и Духа Святаго, и Филиппа, и Прохора, и Никанора, и Тимона, и Пармена, и Николая Антиохийца, обращенного из язычников;

And the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they did choose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,

6 и х поставили перед Апостолами, и, помолившись, возложили на них руки.

whom they did set before the apostles, and they, having prayed, laid on them hands.

7 И слово Божие росло, и число учеников весьма умножалось в Иерусалиме; и из священников очень многие покорились вере.

And the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 А Стефан, исполненный веры и силы, совершал великие чудеса и знамения в народе.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people,

9 Н екоторые из так называемой синагоги Либертинцев и Киринейцев и Александрийцев и некоторые из Киликии и Асии вступили в спор со Стефаном;

and there arose certain of those of the synagogue, called of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia, and Asia, disputing with Stephen,

10 н о не могли противостоять мудрости и Духу, Которым он говорил.

and they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking;

11 Т огда научили они некоторых сказать: мы слышали, как он говорил хульные слова на Моисея и на Бога.

then they suborned men, saying -- `We have heard him speaking evil sayings in regard to Moses and God.'

12 И возбудили народ и старейшин и книжников и, напав, схватили его и повели в синедрион.

They did stir up also the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come upon, they caught him, and brought to the sanhedrim;

13 И представили ложных свидетелей, которые говорили: этот человек не перестает говорить хульные слова на святое место сие и на закон.

they set up also false witnesses, saying, `This one doth not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the law,

14 И бо мы слышали, как он говорил, что Иисус Назорей разрушит место сие и переменит обычаи, которые передал нам Моисей.

for we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;'

15 И все, сидящие в синедрионе, смотря на него, видели лице его, как лице Ангела.

and gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrim saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.
