1 И встал Иаков и пошел в землю сынов востока.

And Jacob lifteth up his feet, and goeth towards the land of the sons of the east;

2 И увидел: вот, на поле колодезь, и там три стада мелкого скота, лежавшие около него, потому что из того колодезя поили стада. Над устьем колодезя был большой камень.

and he looketh, and lo, a well in the field, and lo, there three droves of a flock crouching by it, for from that well they water the droves, and the great stone on the mouth of the well.

3 К огда собирались туда все стада, отваливали камень от устья колодезя и поили овец; потом опять клали камень на свое место, на устье колодезя.

(When thither have all the droves been gathered, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)

4 И аков сказал им: братья мои! откуда вы? Они сказали: мы из Харрана.

And Jacob saith to them, `My brethren, from whence ye?' and they say, `We from Haran.'

5 О н сказал им: знаете ли вы Лавана, сына Нахорова? Они сказали: знаем.

And he saith to them, `Have ye known Laban, son of Nahor?' and they say, `We have known.'

6 О н еще сказал им: здравствует ли он? Они сказали: здравствует; и вот, Рахиль, дочь его, идет с овцами.

And he saith to them, `Hath he peace?' and they say, `Peace; and lo, Rachel his daughter is coming with the flock.'

7 И сказал: вот, дня еще много; не время собирать скот; напойте овец и пойдите, пасите.

And he saith, `Lo, the day still great, not time for the cattle to be gathered; water ye the flock, and go, delight yourselves.'

8 О ни сказали: не можем, пока не соберутся все стада, и не отвалят камня от устья колодезя; тогда будем мы поить овец.

And they say, `We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.'

9 Е ще он говорил с ними, как пришла Рахиль с мелким скотом отца своего, потому что она пасла.

He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she shepherdess;

10 К огда Иаков увидел Рахиль, дочь Лавана, брата матери своей, и овец Лавана, брата матери своей, то подошел Иаков, отвалил камень от устья колодезя и напоил овец Лавана, брата матери своей.

and it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the flock of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

11 И поцеловал Иаков Рахиль и возвысил голос свой и заплакал.

And Jacob kisseth Rachel, and lifteth up his voice, and weepeth,

12 И сказал Иаков Рахили, что он родственник отцу ее и что он сын Ревеккин. А она побежала и сказала отцу своему.

and Jacob declareth to Rachel that he her father's brother, and that he Rebekah's son, and she runneth and declareth to her father.

13 Л аван, услышав о Иакове, сыне сестры своей, выбежал ему навстречу, обнял его и поцеловал его, и ввел его в дом свой; и он рассказал Лавану всё сие.

And it cometh to pass, when Laban heareth the report of Jacob his sister's son, that he runneth to meet him, and embraceth him, and kisseth him, and bringeth him in unto his house; and he recounteth to Laban all these things,

14 Л аван же сказал ему: подлинно ты кость моя и плоть моя. И жил у него целый месяц.

and Laban saith to him, `Only my bone and my flesh thou;' and he dwelleth with him a month of days.

15 И Лаван сказал Иакову: неужели ты даром будешь служить мне, потому что ты родственник? скажи мне, что заплатить тебе?

And Laban saith to Jacob, `Is it because thou my brother that thou hast served me for nought? declare to me what thy hire.'

16 У Лавана же было две дочери; имя старшей: Лия; имя младшей: Рахиль.

And Laban hath two daughters, the name of the elder Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,

17 Л ия была слаба глазами, а Рахиль была красива станом и красива лицем.

and the eyes of Leah tender, and Rachel hath been fair of form and fair of appearance.

18 И аков полюбил Рахиль и сказал: я буду служить тебе семь лет за Рахиль, младшую дочь твою.

And Jacob loveth Rachel, and saith, `I serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter:'

19 Л аван сказал: лучше отдать мне ее за тебя, нежели отдать ее за другого кого; живи у меня.

and Laban saith, `It is better for me to give her to thee than to give her to another man; dwell with me;'

20 И служил Иаков за Рахиль семь лет; и они показались ему за несколько дней, потому что он любил ее.

and Jacob serveth for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.

21 И сказал Иаков Лавану: дай жену мою, потому что мне уже исполнилось время, чтобы войти к ней.

And Jacob saith unto Laban, `Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in unto her;'

22 Л аван созвал всех людей того места и сделал пир.

and Laban gathereth all the men of the place, and maketh a banquet.

23 В ечером же взял дочь свою Лию и ввел ее к нему; и вошел к ней.

And it cometh to pass in the evening, that he taketh Leah, his daughter, and bringeth her in unto him, and he goeth in unto her;

24 И дал Лаван служанку свою Зелфу в служанки дочери своей Лии.

and Laban giveth to her Zilpah, his maid-servant, to Leah his daughter, a maid-servant.

25 У тром же оказалось, что это Лия. И сказал Лавану: что это сделал ты со мною? не за Рахиль ли я служил у тебя? зачем ты обманул меня?

And it cometh to pass in the morning, that lo, it Leah; and he saith unto Laban, `What this thou hast done to me? for Rachel have I not served with thee? and why hast thou deceived me?'

26 Л аван сказал: в нашем месте так не делают, чтобы младшую выдать прежде старшей;

And Laban saith, `It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first-born;

27 о кончи неделю этой, потом дадим тебе и ту за службу, которую ты будешь служить у меня еще семь лет других.

fulfil the week of this one, and we give to thee also this one, for the service which thou dost serve with me yet seven other years.'

28 И аков так и сделал и окончил неделю этой. И дал Рахиль, дочь свою, ему в жену.

And Jacob doth so, and fulfilleth the week of this one, and he giveth to him Rachel his daughter, to him for a wife;

29 И дал Лаван служанку свою Валлу в служанки дочери своей Рахили.

and Laban giveth to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid-servant, for a maid-servant to her.

30 в ошел и к Рахили, и любил Рахиль больше, нежели Лию; и служил у него еще семь лет других.

And he goeth in also unto Rachel, and he also loveth Rachel more than Leah; and he serveth with him yet seven other years.

31 Г осподь узрел, что Лия была нелюбима, и отверз утробу ее, а Рахиль была неплодна.

And Jehovah seeth that Leah the hated one, and He openeth her womb, and Rachel barren;

32 Л ия зачала и родила сына, и нарекла ему имя: Рувим, потому что сказала она: Господь призрел на мое бедствие; ибо теперь будет любить меня муж мой.

and Leah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Reuben, for she said, `Because Jehovah hath looked on mine affliction; because now doth my husband love me.'

33 И зачала опять и родила сына, и сказала: Господь услышал, что я нелюбима, и дал мне и сего. И нарекла ему имя: Симеон.

And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Because Jehovah hath heard that I the hated one, He also giveth to me even this;' and she calleth his name Simeon.

34 И зачала еще и родила сына, и сказала: теперь-то прилепится ко мне муж мой, ибо я родила ему трех сынов. От сего наречено ему имя: Левий.

And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Now the time, my husband is joined unto me, because I have born to him three sons,' therefore hath called his name Levi.

35 И еще зачала и родила сына, и сказала: теперь-то я восхвалю Господа. Посему нарекла ему имя Иуда. И перестала рождать.

And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith this time, `I praise Jehovah;' therefore hath she called his name Judah; and she ceaseth from bearing.
