1 E u însumi, Pavel, vă îndemn, prin blândeţea şi bunătatea lui Cristos – eu, care sunt blând când sunt cu voi, dar plin de curaj când sunt departe de voi –

And I, Paul, myself, do call upon you -- through the meekness and gentleness of the Christ -- who in presence, indeed humble among you, and being absent, have courage toward you,

2 v ă rog ca, atunci când sunt prezent, să nu fie nevoie să-mi arăt curajul de a-i înfrunta pe cei ce consideră că noi trăim după fire!

and I beseech, that, being present, I may not have courage, with the confidence with which I reckon to be bold against certain reckoning us as walking according to the flesh;

3 N oi, deşi trăim în fire, nu ne luptăm potrivit cu firea.

for walking in the flesh, not according to the flesh do we war,

4 C ăci armele noastre de luptă nu sunt fireşti, ci sunt făcute puternice de Dumnezeu pentru a dărâma fortăreţe. Noi răsturnăm argumentele

for the weapons of our warfare not fleshly, but powerful to God for bringing down of strongholds,

5 ş i orice înălţime semeaţă care se ridică împotriva cunoaşterii lui Dumnezeu, şi orice gând îl facem sclav ascultării de Cristos.

reasonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ,

6 S untem gata să pedepsim orice act de neascultare, odată ce ascultarea voastră este deplină.

and being in readiness to avenge every disobedience, whenever your obedience may be fulfilled.

7 V oi vă uitaţi la înfăţişarea exterioară. Dacă cineva este convins că este al lui Cristos, el însuşi ar trebui să ia în considerare faptul că, aşa cum el este al lui Cristos, la fel suntem şi noi.

The things in presence do ye see? if any one hath trusted in himself to be Christ's, this let him reckon again from himself, that according as he is Christ's, so also we Christ's;

8 C hiar dacă mă laud ceva mai mult cu autoritatea noastră, pe care Domnul ne-a dat-o pentru zidirea şi nu pentru dărâmarea voastră, nu-mi va fi ruşine de ea,

for even if also anything more abundantly I shall boast concerning our authority, that the Lord gave us for building up, and not for casting you down, I shall not be ashamed;

9 p entru că nu vreau să par, prin scrisorile mele, ca unul care vrea să vă înspăimânte.

that I may not seem as if I would terrify you through the letters,

10 U nii spun: „Scrisorile lui sunt cu greutate şi puternice, dar când este prezent, este slab şi cuvântul lui este dispreţuit.“

`because the letters indeed -- saith one -- weighty and strong, and the bodily presence weak, and the speech despicable.'

11 A stfel de oameni ar trebui să ia în considerare că ceea ce spunem în scrisori, când suntem absenţi, este şi în faptă când suntem prezenţi.

This one -- let him reckon thus: that such as we are in word, through letters, being absent, such also, being present, in deed.

12 N oi n-ar trebui să îndrăznim să ne clasificăm sau să ne comparăm cu cei care se recomandă singuri, însă, când ei se măsoară unul cu altul şi se compară unul cu altul, nu dau dovadă de înţelepciune.

For we do not make bold to rank or to compare ourselves with certain of those commending themselves, but they, among themselves measuring themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are not wise,

13 N oi însă nu ne lăudăm peste măsură, ci în măsura limitelor pe care ni le-a încredinţat Dumnezeu, măsură care se întinde chiar şi până la voi.

and we in regard to the unmeasured things will not boast ourselves, but after the measure of the line that the God of measure did appoint to us -- to reach even unto you;

14 N u ne întindem dincolo de ea, ca şi cum n-am fi ajuns până la voi, căci am venit primii la voi cu Evanghelia lui Cristos.

for not as not reaching to you do we stretch ourselves overmuch, for even unto you did we come in the good news of the Christ,

15 N u ne lăudăm dincolo de limite, adică cu ostenelile altora, ci nădejdea noastră este că, aşa cum credinţa voastră creşte, sfera noastră de lucru între voi va fi lărgită şi mai mult,

not boasting of the things not measured, in other men's labours, and having hope -- your faith increasing -- in you to be enlarged, according to our line -- into abundance,

16 c a să putem vesti Evanghelia în ţările de dincolo de voi, fără să ne lăudăm cu o lucrare deja făcută în sfera de lucru a altuia.

in the beyond you to proclaim good news, not in another's line in regard to the things made ready, to boast;

17 Î nsă „Cel ce se laudă să se laude în Domnul.“

and he who is boasting -- in the Lord let him boast;

18 F iindcă nu cel ce se recomandă singur este aprobat, ci cel pe care Domnul îl recomandă.

for not he who is commending himself is approved, but he whom the Lord doth commend.
