1 V ai de cei ce se coboară în Egipt pentru ajutor, bazându-se pe cai! Vai de cei ce-şi pun încrederea în mulţimea carelor şi în marea putere a călăreţilor şi nu privesc spre Sfântul lui Israel, nu caută ajutor la Domnul!

Wo those going down to Egypt for help, And on horses lean, And trust on chariots, because many, And on horsemen, because very strong, And have not looked on the Holy One of Israel, And Jehovah have not sought.

2 D ar şi El este înţelept şi poate aduce dezastru. El nu-Şi retrage cuvintele, ci se va ridica împotriva neamului de răufăcători şi împotriva celor ce-i ajută pe cei ce săvârşesc nelegiuirea.

And He also wise, and bringeth in evil, And His words He hath not turned aside, And He hath risen against a house of evil doers, And against the help of workers of iniquity.

3 E giptenii sunt doar oameni, nu Dumnezeu! Caii lor sunt doar carne, nu duh! Când Domnul Îşi întinde mâna, cel ce ajută se va împiedica, iar cel ajutat va cădea şi amândoi vor pieri împreună.

And the Egyptians, and not God, And their horses flesh, and not spirit, And Jehovah stretcheth out His hand, And stumbled hath the helper, And fallen hath the helped one, And together all of them are consumed.

4 C ăci Domnul mi-a vorbit astfel: «Ca un leu, ca un leu tânăr ce mârâie asupra prăzii, – iar când e chemată o ceată de păstori împotriva lui nu se teme de strigătul lor şi nu-i pasă de zgomotul făcut de ei – aşa va coborî Domnul Oştirilor să se lupte pe muntele Sion, pe dealul Său.

For thus said Jehovah unto me: `As growl doth the lion and the young lion over his prey, Called against whom is a multitude of shepherds, From their voice he is not affrighted, And from their noise he is not humbled; So come down doth Jehovah of Hosts To war on mount Zion, and on her height.

5 C um îşi întind păsările aripile, aşa va ocroti Domnul Oştirilor Ierusalimul; îl va ocroti şi-l va elibera, îl va cruţa şi-l va scăpa.»

As birds flying, so doth Jehovah of Hosts Cover over Jerusalem, covering and delivering, Passing over, and causing to escape.'

6 Î ntoarceţi-vă la Cel de la Care v-aţi abătut atât de mult, israeliţilor!

Turn back to Him from whom sons of Israel Have deepened apostacy.

7 C ăci în ziua aceea fiecare îşi va arunca idolii de argint şi idolii de aur pe care vi i-au făcut mâinile voastre păcătoase.

For in that day despise doth each His idols of silver, and his idols of gold, That your hands made to you -- a sin.

8 « Asiria va pieri printr-o sabie care nu este a unui om; o sabie care nu este a unui muritor o va nimici! Vor fugi de sabie, iar tinerii lor vor fi puşi la muncă forţată.

And fallen hath Asshur by sword, not of the high, Yea, a sword -- not of the low, doth consume him, And he hath fled for himself from the face of a sword, And his young men become tributary.

9 F ortăreaţa sa va cădea din cauza terorii şi, la vederea steagului, căpeteniile ei vor intra în panică», zice Domnul, al Cărui foc se află în Sion, şi al Cărui cuptor se află în Ierusalim.

And his rock from fear he passeth on, And affrighted by the ensign have been his princes -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Who hath a light in Zion, And who hath a furnace in Jerusalem!
