1 H iram, regele Tirului, i-a trimis soli lui David, iar aceştia i-au adus lemn de cedru, precum şi zidari şi tâmplari care să-i zidească un palat.

And Huram king of Tyre sendeth messengers unto David, and cedar-wood, and artificers of walls, and artificers of wood, to build to him a house.

2 D avid a înţeles că Domnul l-a pus drept rege peste Israel şi că i-a întărit foarte mult domnia de dragul poporului Său, Israel.

And David knoweth that Jehovah hath established him for king over Israel, because of the lifting up on high of his kingdom, for the sake of His people Israel.

3 D avid şi-a mai luat soţii la Ierusalim şi i s-au mai născut astfel mulţi fii şi multe fiice.

And David taketh again wives in Jerusalem, and David begetteth again sons and daughters;

4 A cestea sunt numele fiilor care i s-au născut la Ierusalim: Şamua, Şobab, Natan, Solomon,

and these the names of the children whom he hath in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

5 I bhar, Elişua, Elpelet,

and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,

6 N ogah, Nefeg, Iafia,

and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

7 E lişama, Beeliada şi Elifelet.

and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

8 C ând au auzit filistenii că David a fost uns ca rege peste întregul Israel, au pornit cu toţii în căutarea lui David. David a aflat însă acest lucru şi le-a ieşit înainte.

And the Philistines hear that David hath been anointed for king over all Israel, and all the Philistines go up to seek David, and David heareth, and goeth out before them.

9 F ilistenii veniseră şi invadaseră valea Refaim.

And the Philistines have come, and rush into the valley of Rephaim,

10 D avid L-a întrebat pe Dumnezeu: – Să pornesc împotriva filistenilor? Îi vei da în mâna mea? Domnul i-a răspuns: – Du-te, căci îi voi da în mâna ta!

and David asketh of God, saying, `Do I go up against the Philistines -- and hast Thou given them into my hand?' And Jehovah saith to him, `Go up, and I have given them into thy hand.'

11 S -a dus la Baal-Peraţim şi David i-a învins acolo. David a zis: „Dumnezeu i-a zdrobit pe duşmanii mei, prin mâna mea, precum apele care dau năvală rupând totul în cale.“ De aceea locului aceluia i-au pus numele Baal-Peraţim.

And they go up into Baal-Perazim, and David smiteth them there, and David saith, `God hath broken up mine enemies by my hand, like the breaking up of waters;' therefore they have called the name of that place Baal-Perazim.

12 F ilistenii şi-au lăsat zeii acolo şi, la porunca lui David, aceştia au fost arşi.

And they leave there their gods, and David speaketh, and they are burnt with fire.

13 F ilistenii au venit din nou şi au invadat valea.

And the Philistines add again, and rush into the valley,

14 D avid L-a întrebat din nou pe Dumnezeu, iar Dumnezeu i-a răspuns: – Să nu-i ataci din faţă, ci înconjoară-i şi atacă-i în dreptul arbuştilor de balsam.

and David asketh again of God, and God saith to him, `Do not go up after them, turn round from them, and thou hast come to them from over-against the mulberries;

15 C ând vei auzi vuiet de marş în vârful arbuştilor de balsam, să ieşi la luptă, căci atunci Dumnezeu va ieşi înaintea ta ca să zdrobească oştirea filistenilor.

and it cometh to pass, when thou hearest the sound of the stepping at the heads of the mulberries, then thou goest out into battle, for God hath gone out before thee to smite the camp of the Philistines.'

16 D avid a făcut aşa cum i-a poruncit Dumnezeu. Ei au lovit oştirea filistenilor de la Ghivon până la Ghezer.

And David doth as God commanded him, and they smite the camp of the Philistines from Gibeon even unto Gazer;

17 F aima lui David s-a răspândit în toate ţinuturile, iar Domnul l-a făcut de temut pentru toate neamurile.

and the name of David goeth out into all the lands, and Jehovah hath put his fear on all the nations.
