1 D omnul mi-a zis: „Ia o placă mare şi scrie pe ea cu un stilet obişnuit: « Maher-şalal-haş-baz ».

And Jehovah saith unto me, `Take to thee a great tablet, and write upon it with a graving tool of man, To haste spoil, enjoy prey.'

2 I ar ca martori vrednici de încredere îi voi chema pe preotul Urie şi pe Zaharia, fiul lui Ieberechia.“

And I cause faithful witnesses to testify to me, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.

3 M -am apropiat apoi de profetesă; ea a a rămas însărcinată şi a născut un fiu. Domnul mi-a zis: „Pune-i numele Maher-şalal-haş-baz.

And I draw near unto the prophetess, and she conceiveth, and beareth a son; and Jehovah saith unto me, `Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

4 Î nainte să ştie copilul să zică: «Tatăl meu!» şi «Mama mea!», bogăţia Damascului şi prada din Samaria vor fi luate de împăratul Asiriei.“

for before the youth doth know to cry, My father, and My mother, one taketh away the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria, before the king of Asshur.'

5 D omnul mi-a vorbit din nou astfel:

And Jehovah addeth to speak unto me again, saying:

6 „ Pentru că poporul acesta a refuzat apele din Şiloah care curg lin, şi s-a bucurat de Reţin şi de fiul lui Remalia,

`Because that this people hath refused The waters of Shiloah that go softly, And is rejoicing with Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

7 d e aceea Stăpânul va ridica împotriva ta apele mari şi puternice ale râului, adică pe împăratul Asiriei şi toată gloria sa. El se va ridica deasupra albiei şi se va revărsa peste maluri!

Therefore, lo, the Lord is bringing up on them, The waters of the river, the mighty and the great, (The king of Asshur, and all his glory,) And it hath gone up over all its streams, And hath gone on over all its banks.

8 V a năvăli în Iuda ca un puhoi şi, curgând peste, le va ajunge până la gât! Aripile sale întinse vor acoperi întinderea ţării tale, Emanuele!“

And it hath passed on into Judah, It hath overflown and passed over, Unto the neck it cometh, And the stretching out of its wings Hath been the fulness of the breadth of thy land, O Emmanu-El!

9 „ Faceţi rău, popoare, cât voiţi, căci tot veţi fi zdrobite! Luaţi aminte voi, toate ţările îndepărtate! Pregătiţi-vă oricât de luptă, căci tot veţi fi zdrobite! Pregătiţi-vă oricât de luptă, căci tot veţi fi zdrobite!

Be friends, O nations, and be broken, And give ear, all ye far off ones of earth, Gird yourselves, and be broken, Gird yourselves, and be broken.

10 F aceţi planuri cât voiţi, căci tot vor fi zădărnicite! Luaţi hotărâri cât voiţi, căci nu vor rămâne în picioare, pentru că Dumnezeu este cu noi!“ Israel să se teamă de Domnul

Take counsel, and it is broken, Speak a word, and it doth not stand, Because of Emmanu-El!'

11 D omnul mi-a vorbit în timp ce mâna Sa puternică era asupra mea şi m-a avertizat să nu umblu pe calea acestui popor. El a zis:

For thus hath Jehovah spoken unto me with strength of hand, and instructeth me against walking in the way of this people, saying,

12 „ Nu numiţi uneltire tot ceea ce poporul acesta numeşte uneltire! Nu vă temeţi de ce se teme el şi nu vă înspăimântaţi!

`Ye do not say, A confederacy, To all to whom this people saith, A confederacy, And its fear ye do not fear, Nor declare fearful.

13 C i pe Domnul Oştirilor să-L priviţi ca sfânt; El este Cel de Care să vă temeţi şi de El trebuie să vă înspăimântaţi.

Jehovah of Hosts -- Him ye do sanctify, And He your Fear, and He your Dread,

14 E l va fi un Lăcaş, însă pentru cele două Case ale lui Israel va fi o piatră de poticnire şi o stâncă de cădere; va fi un laţ şi o cursă pentru locuitorii Ierusalimului.

And He hath been for a sanctuary, And for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of falling, To the two houses of Israel, For a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 M ulţi dintre ei se vor împiedica, vor cădea şi vor fi sfărâmaţi, vor fi prinşi în laţ şi capturaţi.“

And many among them have stumbled and fallen, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

16 „ Leagă această mărturie, şi pecetluieşte această învăţătură între ucenicii Mei!

Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among My disciples.

17 V oi nădăjdui în Domnul, Care Îşi ascunde faţa de Casa lui Iacov, şi îmi voi pune încrederea în El!

And I have waited for Jehovah, Who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob, And I have looked for Him.

18 I ată-mă, eu şi copiii pe care mi i-a dat Domnul! Suntem semne şi prevestiri în Israel de la Domnul Oştirilor, Care locuieşte pe muntele Sion.

Lo, I, and the children whom Jehovah hath given to me, for signs and for wonders in Israel, From Jehovah of Hosts, who is dwelling in Mount Zion.

19 D acă vă vor zice să întrebaţi pe cei ce cheamă duhurile morţilor şi pe descântători, pe cei care îngaimă şi bolborosesc, să răspundeţi: «Nu va întreba oare un popor pe Dumnezeul său? De ce să întrebe pe cei morţi şi nu pe cei vii?

And when they say unto you, `Seek unto those having familiar spirits, And unto wizards, who chatter and mutter, Doth not a people seek unto its God? -- For the living unto the dead!

20 L a învăţătură şi la mărturie!» Dacă ei nu vor vorbi aşa, nu vor vedea lumina zorilor.

To the law and to the testimony! If not, let them say after this manner, `That there is no dawn to it.'

21 N ecăjiţi şi flămânzi vor pribegi prin ţară, iar când le va fi foame se vor mânia şi, uitându-se în sus, vor blestema pe regele lor şi pe Dumnezeul lor.

-- And it hath passed over into it, hardened and hungry, And it hath come to pass, That it is hungry, and hath been wroth, And made light of its king, and of its God, And hath looked upwards.

22 A poi se vor uita spre pământ şi vor vedea numai necaz, întuneric şi negură înspăimântătoare şi vor fi izgoniţi în întuneric.

And unto the land it looketh attentively, And lo, adversity and darkness! -- Dimness, distress, and thick darkness is driven away, But not the dimness for which she is in distress!
