1 Đ ức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi rằng: Hãy lấy một cái bảng rộng và viết lên trên bằng bút loài người rằng: Ma-he-Sa-la-Hát-Bát.

And Jehovah saith unto me, `Take to thee a great tablet, and write upon it with a graving tool of man, To haste spoil, enjoy prey.'

2 T ôi đem theo những kẻ làm chứng đáng tin, tức là U-ri, thầy tế lễ, và Xa-cha-ri, con trai của Giê-bê-rê-kia.

And I cause faithful witnesses to testify to me, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.

3 Đ oạn, tôi đến nhà nữ tiên tri; người chịu thai và sanh một con trai. Đức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng tôi rằng: Hãy đặt tên nó là Ma-he-Sa-la-Hát-Bát

And I draw near unto the prophetess, and she conceiveth, and beareth a son; and Jehovah saith unto me, `Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

4 V ì, trước khi con trẻ biết kêu: Cha ơi! mẹ ơi! thì người ta sẽ cất lấy sự giàu có Đa-mách và của cướp Sa-ma-ri trước mặt vua A-si-ri.

for before the youth doth know to cry, My father, and My mother, one taketh away the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria, before the king of Asshur.'

5 Đ ức Giê-hô-va lại phán cùng tôi rằng:

And Jehovah addeth to speak unto me again, saying:

6 V ì dân nầy đã khinh bỏ các dòng nước Si-lô-ê chảy dịu, và ưa thích Rê-xin cùng con trai của Rê-ma-lia.

`Because that this people hath refused The waters of Shiloah that go softly, And is rejoicing with Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

7 V ì cớ đó, nầy, Chúa sẽ khiến nước Sông mạnh và nhiều đến trên họ, tức là vua A-si-ri và cả oai vinh người; nó sẽ dấy lên khắp trên lòng sông, khỏa lên các bực;

Therefore, lo, the Lord is bringing up on them, The waters of the river, the mighty and the great, (The king of Asshur, and all his glory,) And it hath gone up over all its streams, And hath gone on over all its banks.

8 c hảy vào Giu-đa, tràn lan chảy xói, ngập cho đến cổ; hỡi Em-ma-nu-ên, nó sè cánh ra che cả xứ ngươi.

And it hath passed on into Judah, It hath overflown and passed over, Unto the neck it cometh, And the stretching out of its wings Hath been the fulness of the breadth of thy land, O Emmanu-El!

9 H ỡi các dân, hãy kêu la và bị tan nát! Hỡi các ngươi hết thảy, là dân các phương xa, hãy lắng tai! Hãy nịt lưng các ngươi, và bị tan nát!

Be friends, O nations, and be broken, And give ear, all ye far off ones of earth, Gird yourselves, and be broken, Gird yourselves, and be broken.

10 H ãy toan mưu cùng nhau, nó sẽ nên hư không; hãy nói, lời các ngươi sẽ không đứng, vì Đức Chúa Trời ở cùng chúng ta.

Take counsel, and it is broken, Speak a word, and it doth not stand, Because of Emmanu-El!'

11 V ì Đức Giê-hô-va dùng tay mạnh phán cùng ta, và dạy ta đừng noi theo đường dân ấy,

For thus hath Jehovah spoken unto me with strength of hand, and instructeth me against walking in the way of this people, saying,

12 r ằng: Khi dân nầy nói rằng: Kết đảng! thì các ngươi chớ nói rằng: Kết đảng! Chớ sợ điều nó sợ, và đừng kinh hãi.

`Ye do not say, A confederacy, To all to whom this people saith, A confederacy, And its fear ye do not fear, Nor declare fearful.

13 H ãy tôn Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân là thánh; các ngươi chỉ nên sợ Ngài và kinh hãi Ngài.

Jehovah of Hosts -- Him ye do sanctify, And He your Fear, and He your Dread,

14 N gài sẽ là nơi thánh, nhưng cũng là hòn đá vấp ngã, vầng đó vướng mắc cho cả hai nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên, và là bẫy cùng lưới cho dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem vậy.

And He hath been for a sanctuary, And for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of falling, To the two houses of Israel, For a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 N hiều người trong bọn họ sẽ vấp chơn; sẽ té và giập nát; sẽ sa vào lưới và bị bắt.

And many among them have stumbled and fallen, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

16 N gươi hãy gói lời chứng nầy, niêm phong luật pháp nầy trong môn đồ ta!

Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among My disciples.

17 T ôi trông đợi Đức Giê-hô-va, là Đấng ẩn mặt Ngài khỏi nhà Gia-cốp, tôi vẫn ngóng trông Ngài!

And I have waited for Jehovah, Who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob, And I have looked for Him.

18 N ầy, tôi đây, với con cái mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã ban cho tôi, là dấu và điềm trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, bởi Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân ngự trên núi Si-ôn.

Lo, I, and the children whom Jehovah hath given to me, for signs and for wonders in Israel, From Jehovah of Hosts, who is dwelling in Mount Zion.

19 N ếu có ai bảo các ngươi: Hãy cầu hỏi đồng bóng và thầy bói, là kẻ nói rúi rít líu lo, thì hãy đáp rằng: Một dân tộc há chẳng nên cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời mình sao? Há lại vì người sống mà hỏi kẻ chết sao?

And when they say unto you, `Seek unto those having familiar spirits, And unto wizards, who chatter and mutter, Doth not a people seek unto its God? -- For the living unto the dead!

20 H ãy theo luật pháp và lời chứng! Nếu dân chẳng nói như vậy, chắc sẽ chẳng có rạng đông cho nó.

To the law and to the testimony! If not, let them say after this manner, `That there is no dawn to it.'

21 N ó sẽ đi lưu lạc trên đất, khốn khổ đói khát; trong cơn đói, nó bực mình, nguyền rủa vua và Đức Chúa Trời mình. Nó sẽ ngước xem trên cao;

-- And it hath passed over into it, hardened and hungry, And it hath come to pass, That it is hungry, and hath been wroth, And made light of its king, and of its God, And hath looked upwards.

22 r ồi cúi xem dưới đất, chỉ thấy sự hoạn nạn và mờ mịt, chỉ thấy bóng buồn rầu: nó sẽ bị đuổi vào nơi tối tăm mờ mịt.

And unto the land it looketh attentively, And lo, adversity and darkness! -- Dimness, distress, and thick darkness is driven away, But not the dimness for which she is in distress!
