1 B ởi Y-sác đã già, mắt làng chẳng thấy được nữa, bèn gọi Ê-sau, con trưởng nam, mà rằng: Hỡi con! Ê-sau thưa rằng: Có con đây.

And it cometh to pass that Isaac aged, and his eyes are too dim for seeing, and he calleth Esau his elder son, and saith unto him, `My son;' and he saith unto him, `Here I.'

2 N gười bèn nói rằng: Nầy, cha đã già rồi, chẳng biết ngày nào phải chết;

And he saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have become aged, I have not known the day of my death;

3 v ậy bây giờ, cha xin con hãy lấy khí giới, ống tên và cung con, ra đồng săn thịt rừng cho cha,

and now, take up, I pray thee, thy instruments, thy quiver, and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt for me provision,

4 d ọn một món ngon tùy theo cha sở thích; rồi dâng lên cho cha ăn, đặng linh hồn cha chúc phước cho con trước khi chết.

and make for me tasteful things, as I have loved, and bring in to me, and I do eat, so that my soul doth bless thee before I die.'

5 V ả, đương khi Y-sác nói cùng Ê-sau con trai mình, thì Rê-be-ca có nghe. Ê-sau bèn ra đồng săn thịt rừng đặng đem về cho cha.

And Rebekah is hearkening while Isaac is speaking unto Esau his son; and Esau goeth to the field to hunt provision -- to bring in;

6 R ê-be-ca nói cùng Gia-cốp, con trai mình, rằng: Nầy, mẹ có nghe cha nói cùng Ê-sau, anh con, và dặn rằng:

and Rebekah hath spoken unto Jacob her son, saying, `Lo, I have heard thy father speaking unto Esau thy brother, saying,

7 H ãy đem thịt rừng về cho cha, dọn một món ngon cha ăn; đặng trước khi qua đời, cha sẽ chúc phước cho con trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va.

Bring for me provision, and make for me tasteful things, and I do eat, and bless thee before Jehovah before my death.

8 V ậy, con ơi! bây giờ, hãy nghe mẹ và làm theo lời mẹ biểu:

`And now, my son, hearken to my voice, to that which I am commanding thee:

9 H ãy ra ngoài bầy, bắt hai dê con tốt, rồi mẹ sẽ dọn cho cha con một món ngon, tùy theo người sở thích;

Go, I pray thee, unto the flock, and take for me from thence two good kids of the goats, and I make them tasteful things for thy father, as he hath loved;

10 c on sẽ đem cho cha ăn, đặng người chúc phước con trước khi qua đời.

and thou hast taken in to thy father, and he hath eaten, so that his soul doth bless thee before his death.

11 G ia-cốp thưa lại cùng mẹ rằng: Thưa mẹ, Ê-sau, anh con, có lông, còn con lại không.

And Jacob saith unto Rebekah his mother, `Lo, Esau my brother a hairy man, and I a smooth man,

12 C ó lẽ cha sẽ rờ mình chăng, coi con như kẻ phỉnh gạt, thì con chắc lấy cho mình sự rủa sả, chớ chẳng phải sự chúc phước đâu.

it may be my father doth feel me, and I have been in his eyes as a deceiver, and have brought upon me disesteem, and not a blessing;'

13 M ẹ đáp rằng: Con ơi! xin sự rủa sả đó để cho mẹ chịu; hãy cứ nghe lời mẹ, ra bắt hai dê con.

and his mother saith to him, `On me thy disesteem, my son; only hearken to my voice, and go, take for me.'

14 V ậy, Gia-cốp đi bắt hai dê con, đem lại cho mẹ, làm món ngon, tùy theo cha sở thích.

And he goeth, and taketh, and bringeth to his mother, and his mother maketh tasteful things, as his father hath loved;

15 Đ oạn Rê-be-ca lấy quần áo tốt nhứt của Ê-sau, con trưởng nam, sẵn để trong nhà, mà mặc vào cho Gia-cốp, con út mình;

and Rebekah taketh the desirable garments of Esau her elder son, which with her in the house, and doth put on Jacob her younger son;

16 r ồi người lấy da dê con bao hai tay và cổ, vì tay và cổ Gia-cốp không có lông.

and the skins of the kids of the goats she hath put on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck,

17 R ê-be-ca bèn để món ngon và bánh của mình đã dọn vào tay con út mình.

and she giveth the tasteful things, and the bread which she hath made, into the hand of Jacob her son.

18 G ia-cốp bưng đến cha mình và nói rằng: Thưa cha! Y-sác đáp: Có cha đây; con là đứa nào đó?

And he cometh in unto his father, and saith, `My father;' and he saith, `Here I; who thou, my son?'

19 G ia-cốp thưa: Tôi là Ê-sau, con trưởng nam của cha; con đã làm theo lời cha dặn biểu; xin cha dậy, ngồi ăn lấy thịt săn của con, đặng linh hồn cha sẽ chúc phước cho con.

And Jacob saith unto his father, `I Esau thy first-born; I have done as thou hast spoken unto me; rise, I pray thee, sit, and eat of my provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.'

20 Y -sác hỏi rằng: Sao con đi săn được mau thế? Thưa rằng: Aáy nhờ Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của cha xui tôi gặp mau vậy.

And Isaac saith unto his son, `What this thou hast hasted to find, my son?' and he saith, `That which Jehovah thy God hath caused to come before me.'

21 Y -sác nói cùng Gia-cốp rằng: Hỡi con! hãy lại gần đặng cha rờ thử xem có phải là Ê-sau, con của cha chăng?

And Isaac saith unto Jacob, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and I feel thee, my son, whether thou he, my son Esau, or not.'

22 G ia-cốp bèn lại gần Y-sác; người rờ và nói rằng: Tiếng nói thì của Gia-cốp, còn hai tay lại của Ê-sau.

And Jacob cometh nigh unto Isaac his father, and he feeleth him, and saith, `The voice the voice of Jacob, and the hands hands of Esau.'

23 N gười chẳng nhận biết đặng vì hai tay cũng có lông như của anh, là Ê-sau. Vậy Y-sác chúc phước cho.

And he hath not discerned him, for his hands have been hairy, as the hands of Esau his brother, and he blesseth him,

24 N gười lại hỏi rằng: Aáy con thật là Ê-sau, con trai ta, phải chăng? Gia-cốp thưa: Phải, con đây.

and saith, `Thou art he -- my son Esau?' and he saith, `I.'

25 Y -sác bèn nói: Hãy dọn cho cha ăn lấy thịt săn của con, đặng linh hồn cha chúc phước cho con. Gia-cốp dọn cho người ăn, cũng có đem rượu cho người uống nữa.

And he saith, `Bring nigh to me, and I do eat of my son's provision, so that my soul doth bless thee;' and he bringeth nigh to him, and he eateth; and he bringeth to him wine, and he drinketh.

26 R ồi Y-sác cha người nói rằng: Hỡi con! hãy lại gần và hôn cha.

And Isaac his father saith to him, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and kiss me, my son;'

27 G ia-cốp bèn lại gần và hôn người. Y-sác đánh mùi thơm của áo con, liền chúc phước cho, và nói rằng: Nầy, mùi hương của con ta Khác nào mùi hương của cánh đồng mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã ban phước cho.

and he cometh nigh, and kisseth him, and he smelleth the fragrance of his garments, and blesseth him, and saith, `See, the fragrance of my son as the fragrance of a field which Jehovah hath blessed;

28 C ầu xin Đức Chúa Trời cho con sương móc trên trời xuống, Được màu mỡ của đất, và dư dật lúa mì cùng rượu.

and God doth give to thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of corn and wine;

29 M uôn dân phải phục con, Các nước phải quì lạy trước mặt con! Hãy được quyền chủ các anh em, Các con trai của mẹ con phải quì lạy trước mặt con! Ai rủa sả con sẽ bị rủa sả lại, Ai cầu phước cho con, sẽ được ban phước lại!

peoples serve thee, and nations bow themselves to thee, be thou mighty over thy brethren, and the sons of thy mother bow themselves to thee; those who curse thee cursed, and those who bless thee blessed.'

30 V ừa khi Y-sác chúc phước cho Gia-cốp xuống, và vừa khi Gia-cốp lùi ra khỏi nơi cha mình, thì Ê-sau, anh người, đi săn trở về.

And it cometh to pass, as Isaac hath finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob is only just going out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother hath come in from his hunting;

31 N gười cũng dọn một món ngon, dâng lên cho cha và thưa rằng: Xin dậy, ngồi ăn thịt săn của con trai cha, đặng linh hồn cha chúc phước cho con.

and he also maketh tasteful things, and bringeth to his father, and saith to his father, `Let my father arise, and eat of his son's provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.'

32 Y -sác, cha người, hỏi: Con là đứa nào? Thưa rằng: Tôi là Ê-sau, con trưởng nam của cha.

And Isaac his father saith to him, `Who thou?' and he saith, `I thy son, thy first-born, Esau;'

33 Y -sác lấy làm cảm động qua đỗi mà nói rằng: Vậy, còn đứa nào đã săn thịt rừng, và đã dâng lên cho cha đó? Trước khi con về, cha đã ăn hết rồi, và chúc phước cho nó; nó lại sẽ được ban phước vậy.

and Isaac trembleth a very great trembling, and saith, `Who, now, he who hath provided provision, and bringeth in to me, and I eat of all before thou comest in, and I bless him? -- yea, blessed is he.'

34 V ừa nghe dứt lời cha, thì Ê-sau la lên một tiếng rất lớn, và rất thảm thiết mà thưa cùng cha rằng: Cha ơi! xin hãy chúc phước cho con luôn nữa!

When Esau heareth the words of his father, then he crieth a very great and bitter cry, and saith to his father, `Bless me, me also, O my father;'

35 N hưng Y-sác lại đáp: Em con đã dùng mưu kế đến cướp sự chúc phước của con rồi.

and he saith, `Thy brother hath come with subtilty, and taketh thy blessing.'

36 Ê -sau liền nói rằng: Có phải vì người ta gọi nó là Gia-cốp mà đó hai lần chiếm lấy vị tôi rồi chăng? Nó đã chiếm quyền trưởng nam tôi, và lại bây giờ còn chiếm sự phước lành của tôi nữa. Tiếp rằng: Cha chẳng có dành sự chúc phước chi cho tôi sao?

And he saith, `Is it because called his name Jacob that he doth take me by the heel these two times? my birthright he hath taken; and lo, now, he hath taken my blessing;' he saith also, `Hast thou not kept back a blessing for me?'

37 Y -sác đáp rằng: Nầy, cho đã lập nó lên làm chủ con, và đã cho các anh em làm tôi nó; và đã dự bị lúa mì và rượu cho nó. Vậy, cha sẽ làm chi cho con đây?

And Isaac answereth and saith to Esau, `Lo, a mighty one have I set him over thee, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants, and corn and wine have I sustained him; and for thee now, what shall I do, my son?'

38 Ê -sau thưa rằng: Cha ơi! cha chỉ có sự chúc phước đó thôi sao? Hãy chúc phước cho con với, cha! Rồi Ê-sau cất tiếng lên khóc.

And Esau saith unto his father, `One blessing hast thou my father? bless me, me also, O my father;' and Esau lifteth up his voice, and weepeth.

39 Y -sác cha người, đáp rằng: Nầy, nơi con ở sẽ thiếu màu mỡ của đất, Cùng sương-móc trên trời sa xuống.

And Isaac his father answereth and saith unto him, `Lo, of the fatness of the earth is thy dwelling, and of the dew of the heavens from above;

40 C on sẽ nhờ gươm mới được sống. Và làm tôi tớ cho em con. Song khi con lưu lạc rày đó mai đây, Sẽ bẻ cái ách của em trên cổ con vậy.

and by thy sword dost thou live, and thy brother dost thou serve; and it hath come to pass when thou rulest, that thou hast broken his yoke from off thy neck.'

41 Ê -sau trở lòng ghét Gia-cốp vì cớ cha mình chúc phước cho người, bèn nói thầm trong lòng rằng: Ngày tang của cha đã hầu gần; vậy, ta sẽ giết Gia-cốp, em ta, đi.

And Esau hateth Jacob, because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau saith in his heart, `The days of mourning my father draw near, and I slay Jacob my brother.'

42 H ọ đem lời Ê-sau, con lớn, thuật lại cùng Rê-be-ca, thì người sai gọi Gia-cốp, con út mình, mà nói rằng: Nầy, Ê-sau, anh con, toan giết con để báo thù.

And the words of Esau her elder son are declared to Rebekah, and she sendeth and calleth for Jacob her younger son, and saith unto him, `Lo, Esau thy brother is comforting himself in regard to thee -- to slay thee;

43 V ậy, bây giờ, hỡi con, hãy nghe lời mẹ, đứng dậy, chạy trốn qua nhà La-ban, cậu con, tại Cha-ran,

and now, my son, hearken to my voice, and rise, flee for thyself unto Laban my brother, to Haran,

44 v à hãy ở cùng người ít lâu, cho đến lúc nào cơn giận của anh con qua hết.

and thou hast dwelt with him some days, till thy brother's fury turn back,

45 K hi cơn giận anh con bỏ qua rồi, và nó quên việc con đã gây nên với nó, thì mẹ sẽ biểu con về. Có lẽ đâu mẹ phải chịu mất cả hai đứa trong một ngày ư?

till thy brother's anger turn back from thee, and he hath forgotten that which thou hast done to him, and I have sent and taken thee from thence; why am I bereaved even of you both the same day?'

46 R ê-be-ca nói cùng Y-sác rằng: Tôi đã chán, không muốn sống nữa, vì cớ mấy con gái họ Hếch. Nếu Gia-cốp cưới một trong mấy con gái họ Hếch mà làm vợ, tức một người con gái trong xứ như các dân đó; thôi, tôi còn sống mà chi?

And Rebekah saith unto Isaac, `I have been disgusted with my life because of the presence of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these -- from the daughters of the land -- why do I live?'
