1 V ả, có vợ của một người môn đồ của các đấng tiên tri đến phàn nàn cùng Ê-li-sê, mà rằng: Kẻ tôi tớ ông, là chồng tôi, đã qua đời; và ông biết rằng kẻ tôi tớ ông kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va. Vả, chủ nợ người đến toan bắt hai đứa con tôi làm tôi mọi.

And a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets hath cried unto Elisha, saying, `Thy servant, my husband, is dead, and thou hast known that thy servant was fearing Jehovah, and the lender hath come to take my two children to him for servants.'

2 Ê -li-sê nói với nàng rằng: Ta phải làm gì cho ngươi? Hãy nói cho ta biết ngươi có vật gì ở nhà? Nàng thưa rằng: Con đòi ông chẳng có gì trong nhà hơn là một hũ dầu.

And Elisha saith unto her, `What do I do for thee? declare to me, what hast thou in the house?' and she saith, `Thy maid-servant hath nothing in the house except a pot of oil.'

3 N gười bèn tiếp rằng: Hãy đi ra ngoài mượn những bình không của các kẻ láng giềng ngươi, chớ mượn ít.

And he saith, `Go, ask for thee vessels from without, from all thy neighbours -- empty vessels -- let not be few;

4 K hi ngươi trở về, hãy vào nhà với các con ngươi, đóng cửa lại, rối hãy đổ dầu vào các bình đó; hễ bình nào đầy thì để nó riêng ra.

and thou hast entered, and shut the door upon thee, and upon thy sons, and hast poured out into all these vessels, and the full ones thou dost remove.'

5 N àng liền đi khỏi người, vào nhà với các con trai mình, đóng cửa lại; các con trai nàng đem bình lại, và nàng đổ dầu vào.

And she goeth from him, and shutteth the door upon her, and upon her sons; they are bringing nigh unto her, and she is pouring out,

6 K hi các bình đã đầy, nàng nói với con trai mình rằng: Hãy đem cho ta một bình nữa. Nhưng nó thưa rằng: Hết trơn bình rồi. Dầu bèn ngừng lại.

and it cometh to pass, at the filling of the vessels, that she saith unto her son, `Bring nigh unto me a vessel more,' and he saith unto her, `There is not a vessel more;' and the oil stayeth.

7 B ấy giờ, nàng đem việc ấy thuật cho người của Đức Chúa Trời, thì người nói rằng: Hãy đem bán dầu mà trả nợ của ngươi; đoạn, ngươi và các con trai ngươi sẽ lấy dầu còn lại mà nuôi mình.

And she cometh and declareth to the man of God, and he saith, `Go, sell the oil, and repay thy loan; and thou thy sons do live of the rest.'

8 M ột ngày kia, Ê-li-sê đi ngang qua đất Su-nem. Ở đó, có một người đờn bà giàu, cầm người ở lại ăn bữa. Từ ấy, mỗi khi người đi ngang qua đó, thì vào nhà người đờn bà này mà dùng bữa.

And the day cometh that Elisha passeth over unto Shunem, and there a great woman, and she layeth hold on him to eat bread, and it cometh to pass, at the time of his passing over, he turneth aside thither to eat bread,

9 N gười nói với chồng mình rằng: Tôi biết rằng người năng đến nhà chúng ta đây, là một người thánh của Đức Chúa Trời.

and she saith unto her husband, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that a holy man of God he is, passing over by us continually;

10 X in chúng ta hãy xây cất cho người một cái phòng cao, rồi để tại đó một cái giường, một cái bàn, một cái ghế, và một cây đèn. Vậy, khi người đến nhà ta, thì sẽ ở lại đó.

let us make, I pray thee, a little upper chamber of the wall, and we set for him there a bed, and a table, and a high seat, and a candlestick; and it hath been, in his coming in unto us, he doth turn aside thither.'

11 M ột ngày kia, Ê-li-sê đi đến Su-nem, trọ nơi phòng cao, và ngủ tại đó.

And the day cometh, that he cometh in thither, and turneth aside unto the upper chamber, and lieth there,

12 N gười nói với Ghê-ha-xi, tôi tớ mình, rằng: Hãy gọi người đờn bà Su-nem đó đến. Ghê-ha-xi gọi nàng; nàng ra đứng trước mặt người.

and he saith unto Gehazi his young man, `Call for this Shunammite;' and he calleth for her, and she standeth before him.

13 N gười nói với tôi tớ mình rằng: Hãy nói cùng nàng rằng: Kìa, ngươi đã lo liệu cho chúng ta mọi điều này; vậy chúng ta phải làm gì cho ngươi? Có phải ngươi muốn ta nói giùm cho ngươi với vua hay là với quan tổng binh chăng? Nàng thưa rằng: Tôi vẫn ở giữa dân sự tôi.

And he saith to him, `Say, I pray thee, unto her, Lo, thou hast troubled thyself concerning us with all this trouble; what -- to do for thee? is it to speak for thee unto the king, or unto the head of the host?' and she saith, `In the midst of my people I am dwelling.'

14 Ê -li-sê lại tiếp: Vậy, chúng ta phải làm gì cho người? Ghê-ha-xi đáp rằng: À này, người không có con trai, và chồng người đã già rồi.

And he saith, `And what -- to do for her?' and Gehazi saith, `Verily she hath no son, and her husband aged.'

15 Ê -li-sê nói rằng: Hãy gọi nàng. Ghê-ha-xi gọi nàng, nàng đến đứng nơi cửa.

And he saith, `Call for her;' and he calleth for her, and she standeth at the opening,

16 Ê -li-sê nói với người đờn bà rằng: Năm tới, trong lúc này, ngươi sẽ ẵm một đứa con trai. Nàng thưa: Hỡi chúa tôi, là người của Đức Chúa Trời! xin chớ nói dối cùng con đòi của chúa.

and he saith, `At this season, according to the time of life, thou art embracing a son;' and she saith, `Nay, my lord, O man of God, do not lie unto thy maid-servant.'

17 N gười đờn bà ấy thọ thai, và một năm sau, cũng trong lúc đó, sanh một đứa con trai, y như lời Ê-li-sê đã nói trước cho nàng.

And the woman conceiveth and beareth a son, at this season, according to the time of life, that Elisha spake of unto her.

18 X ảy ra khi đứa trẻ lớn lên, một ngày kia nó đi đến cha nó nơi những người gặt lúa,

And the lad groweth, and the day cometh that he goeth out unto his father, unto the reapers,

19 m à nói rằng: Đầu tôi đau! đầu tôi đau! Người cha biểu kẻ tôi tớ đem nó về cho mẹ nó.

and he saith unto his father, `My head, my head;' and he saith unto the young man, `Bear him unto his mother;'

20 N gười tôi tớ đem nó về, giao cho mẹ nó; đứa trẻ ngồi trên đầu gối của mẹ cho đến trưa, rồi chết.

and he beareth him, and bringeth him in unto his mother, and he sitteth on her knees till the noon, and dieth.

21 N àng bèn đi lên để nó nằm trên giường người của Đức Chúa Trời, rồi đi ra, đóng cửa lại.

And she goeth up, and layeth him on the bed of the man of God, and shutteth upon him, and goeth out,

22 K ế đó, nàng kêu chồng mình mà nói rằng: Tôi xin ông cắt cho tôi một đứa đầy tớ, và một con lừa, để tôi chạy đến người của Đức Chúa Trời; đoạn, tôi sẽ trở về.

and calleth unto her husband, and saith, `Send, I pray thee, to me, one of the young men, and one of the asses, and I run unto the man of God, and return.'

23 C hồng hỏi nàng rằng: Ngày nay chẳng phải mồng một, cũng chẳng phải ngày Sa-bát. vậy, nhân sao muốn đi đến cùng người? Nàng đáp: Mọi điều bình an.

And he saith, `Wherefore art thou going unto him to-day? -- neither new moon nor sabbath!' and she saith, `Peace!'

24 N àng biểu thắng lừa, và nói với kẻ tôi tớ rằng: Hãy đem ta đi mau mau, nếu ta biểu ngươi mới ngừng lại.

And she saddleth the ass, and saith unto her young man, `Lead, and go, do not restrain riding for me, except I have said to thee.'

25 V ậy, nàng đi đến cùng người của Đức Chúa Trời tại trên núi Cạt-mên. Người của Đức Chúa Trời thấy nàng đằng xa, bèn nói với Ghê-ha-xi, kẻ tôi tớ mình, rằng: Kìa, người đờn bà Su-nem!

And she goeth, and cometh in unto the man of God, unto the hill of Carmel, and it cometh to pass, at the man of God's seeing her from over-against, that he saith unto Gehazi his young man, `Lo, this Shunammite;

26 V ậy, hãy chạy đi đón nàng, và hỏi nàng rằng: Mọi việc đều bình an chăng? Chồng và con ngươi bình an chăng? Nàng đáp: Bình an.

now, run, I pray thee, to meet her, and say to her, Is there peace to thee? is there peace to thy husband? is there peace to the lad?' and she saith, `Peace.'

27 K hi nàng đến gần người của Đức Chúa Trời, tại trên núi, thì ôm lấy chơn người. Ghê-ha-xi đến gần đặng xô nàng ra, nhưng người của Đức Chúa Trời nói cùng người rằng: Hãy để mặc nàng; linh hồn nàng đắng cay; Đức Giê-hô-va có giấu ta điều đó, không tỏ cho ta hay.

And she cometh in unto the man of God, unto the hill, and layeth hold on his feet, and Gehazi cometh nigh to thrust her away, and the man of God saith, `Let her alone, for her soul bitter to her, and Jehovah hath hidden from me, and hath not declared to me.'

28 N gười đờn bà ấy bèn nói rằng: Tôi há có cầu chúa một đứa con trai sao? Tôi há chẳng có nói với chúa rằng: Xin chớ dối tôi?

And she saith, `Did I ask a son from my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?'

29 Ê -li-sê nói cùng Ghê-ha-xi rằng: Hãy thắt lưng ngươi, cầm gậy ta nơi tay và đi. Nếu ngươi gặp ai, chớ chào họ; nếu ai chào ngươi, chớ đáp lại. Người sẽ đặt cây gậy ta trên mặt đứa trẻ.

And he saith to Gehazi, `Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go; when thou dost meet a man, thou dost not salute him; and when a man doth salute thee, thou dost not answer him; and thou hast laid my staff on the face of the youth.'

30 N gười mẹ của đứa trẻ nói rằng: Tôi chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, và chỉ mạng sống của ông mà thề, tôi chẳng hề lìa khỏi ông! Ê-li-sê bèn chổi dậy, và đi theo người.

And the mother of the youth saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth -- if I leave thee;' and he riseth and goeth after her.

31 G hê-ha-xi đi trước hai người, và đặt cây gậy trên mặt đứa trẻ. Nhưng người chẳng nghe một tiếng nào, cũng chẳng thấy mòi gì sống. Người trở lại đón Ê-li-sê, và thưa cùng người rằng: Đứa trẻ không tỉnh lại.

And Gehazi hath passed on before them, and layeth the staff on the face of the youth, and there is no voice, and there is no attention, and he turneth back to meet him, and declareth to him, saying, `The youth hath not awaked.'

32 K hi Ê-li-sê vào nhà, thấy đứa trẻ đã chết, nằm sải trên giường.

And Elisha cometh in to the house, and lo, the youth is dead, laid on his bed,

33 Ê -li-sê vào trong phòng, đóng cửa lại, có đứa trẻ và mình ở trong, rồi cầu nguyện cùng Đức Giê-hô-va.

and he goeth in and shutteth the door upon them both, and prayeth unto Jehovah.

34 Đ oạn, người leo trên giường, nằm trên đứa trẻ; đặt miệng mình trên miệng nó, mắt mình trên mắt nó, và tay mình trên tay nó. Người nằm ấp trên mình nó, xác đứa trẻ bèn ấm lại.

And he goeth up, and lieth down on the lad, and putteth his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands, and stretcheth himself upon him, and the flesh of the lad becometh warm;

35 Ê -li-sê trở xuống, đi qua đi lại trong phòng; đoạn, leo lên giường, nằm ấp trên mình đứa trẻ nữa. Rốt lại, nó nhảy mũi bảy lần, và mở mắt ra.

and he turneth back and walketh in the house, once hither and once thither, and goeth up and stretcheth himself upon him, and the youth sneezeth till seven times, and the youth openeth his eyes.

36 Ê -li-sê liền gọi Ghê-ha-xi gọi người. Khi nàng chạy đến, Ê-li-sê nói với nàng rằng: Hãy ẵm lấy con ngươi.

And he calleth unto Gehazi, and saith, `Call unto this Shunammite;' and he calleth her, and she cometh in unto him, and he saith, `Lift up thy son.'

37 N àng bèn lại gần, sấp mình xuống dưới chơn người và lạy; đoạn ẵm lấy con mình và đi ra.

And she goeth in, and falleth at his feet, and boweth herself to the earth, and lifteth up her son, and goeth out.

38 Ê -li-sê trở về Ghinh-ganh. Vả, trong xứ có đói kém. Các môn đồ của những tiên tri đều ngồi trước mặt người. Người biểu kẻ tôi tớ mình rằng: Hãy bắc cái nồi lớn, nấu canh cho các môn đồ của những tiên tri.

And Elisha hath turned back to Gilgal, and the famine in the land, and the sons of the prophets are sitting before him, and he saith to his young man, `Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets.'

39 M ột người trong bọn họ đi ra ngoài đồng đặng hái rau, thấy một dây rừng leo, bèn hái những dây dưa dại, bọc đầy vạt áo tơi mình. Khi người trở về, xắt ra từng miếng, bỏ trong nồi nấu canh, chẳng biết nó là thứ gì.

And one goeth out unto the field to gather herbs, and findeth a vine of the field, and gathereth of it gourds of the field -- the fulness of his garment -- and cometh in and splitteth into the pot of pottage, for they knew not;

40 N gười ta múc cho các người ăn; nhưng vừa khi họ nếm canh, thì la lên rằng: Hỡi người của Đức Chúa Trời, sự chết ở trong nồi nầy! Họ ăn canh ấy không đặng.

and they pour out for the men to eat, and it cometh to pass at their eating of the pottage, that they have cried out, and say, `Death in the pot, O man of God!' and they have not been able to eat.

41 Ê -li-sê nói: Thế thì, hãy đem bột lại. Người bỏ bột trong nồi, và biểu rằng: Hãy múc cho các người ăn. Vậy, trong canh chẳng còn độc gì nữa.

And he saith, `Then bring ye meal;' and he casteth into the pot, and saith, `Pour out for the people, and they eat;' and there was no evil thing in the pot.

42 C ó một người ở Ba-anh-Sa-li-sa đến, đem cho người của Đức Chúa Trời hai mươi ổ bánh lúa mạch, và lúa còn gié để trong bị mình, làm của lễ đầu mùa gặt. Ê-li-sê biểu kẻ tôi tớ mình rằng: Hãy đem phát cho các người ăn.

And a man hath come from Baal-Shalishah, and bringeth in to the man of God bread of first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in its husk, and he saith, `Give to the people, and they eat.'

43 K ẻ tôi tớ người thưa rằng: Chi! Tôi phải phát đồ này cho một trăm người sao? Nhưng Ê-li-sê đáp: Hãy phát cho họ các bánh đó, hầu cho họ ăn đi; vì Đức Giê-hô-va có phán như vầy: Người ta sẽ ăn và còn dư lại.

And his minister saith, `What -- do I give this before a hundred men?' and he saith, `Give to the people, and they eat, for thus said Jehovah, Eat and leave;'

44 A áy vậy, người đặt các bánh đó trước mặt họ; họ ăn, và còn thừa lại, y như lời của Đức Giê-hô-va đã phán.

and he giveth before them, and they eat and leave, according to the word of Jehovah.
