1 I ată Cuvântul care a venit la Ieremia din partea Domnului în timp ce Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, împreună cu toată oştirea lui, cu toate regatele pământului aflate sub dominaţia lui şi cu toate celelalte popoare luptau împotriva Ierusalimului şi împotriva cetăţilor dimprejurul lui:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah -- and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his force, and all kingdoms of the land of the dominion of his hand, and all the peoples are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all its cities -- saying:

2 „ Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Du-te la Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, şi spune-i că aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Iată, dau această cetate în mâinile împăratului Babilonului şi el îi va da foc!

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel: Go, and thou hast spoken unto Zedekiah king of Judah, and hast said unto him, Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he hath burned it with fire,

3 I ar tu nu vei scăpa din mâinile lui, ci vei fi prins şi predat lui. Îl vei vedea pe împăratul Babilonului faţă în faţă, iar el îţi va vorbi gură către gură, şi astfel vei fi dus în Babilon.’»“

and thou, thou dost not escape out of his hand, for thou art certainly caught, and into his hand thou art given, and thine eyes see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and his mouth with thy mouth speaketh, and Babylon thou enterest.

4 „ Ascultă Cuvântul Domnului, Zedechia, rege al lui Iuda! Aşa vorbeşte Domnul cu privire la tine: «Nu vei muri ucis de sabie,

`Only, hear a word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah, Thus said Jehovah unto thee: Thou dost not die by sword,

5 c i vei muri în pace. Aşa cum poporul a făcut un foc în cinstea strămoşilor tăi, regii care au fost înaintea ta, tot aşa vor face un foc şi în cinstea ta şi te vor jeli zicând: ‘Vai, stăpâne!’ Eu Însumi fac această promisiune, zice Domnul.»“

in peace thou diest, and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings who have been before thee, so they make a burning for thee; and Ah, lord, they lament for thee, for the word I have spoken -- an affirmation of Jehovah.'

6 P rofetul Ieremia a spus toate aceste cuvinte lui Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, la Ierusalim,

And Jeremiah the prophet speaketh unto Zedekiah king of Judah all these words in Jerusalem,

7 î n timp ce oştirea împăratului Babilonului se lupta împotriva Ierusalimului şi împotriva celorlalte cetăţi ale lui Iuda care încă mai rezistau – împotriva Lachişului şi împotriva Azekăi, căci acestea mai erau singurele cetăţi fortificate rămase în Iuda. Poporul calcă legământul în privinţa sclaviei

and the forces of the king of Babylon are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that are left -- against Lachish, and against Azekah, for these have been left among the cities of Judah, cities of fortresses.

8 I ată Cuvântul care a venit la Ieremia din partea Domnului, după ce regele Zedechia a încheiat un legământ cu tot poporul din Ierusalim, prin care vestea libertatea sclavilor.

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after the making by the king Zedekiah of a covenant with all the people who in Jerusalem, to proclaim to them liberty,

9 F iecare trebuia să-şi elibereze sclavul şi sclava, evreu sau evreică. Nimeni nu mai avea voie să păstreze pe fratele său iudeu ca sclav.

to send out each his man-servant, and each his maid-servant -- the Hebrew and the Hebrewess -- free, so as not to lay service on them, any on a Jew his brother;

10 T oţi conducătorii şi toţi cei din popor care au intrat în legământ au acceptat fiecare să-şi elibereze sclavul şi sclava şi să nu-i mai ţină în sclavie. Ei au ascultat şi le-au dat drumul.

and hearken do all the heads, and all the people who have come in to the covenant to send forth each his man-servant and each his maid-servant free, so as not to lay service on them any more, yea, they hearken, and send them away;

11 D ar mai târziu s-au răzgândit şi au adus înapoi sclavii şi sclavele pe care îi eliberaseră, înrobindu-i iarăşi.

and they turn afterwards, and cause the men-servants and the maid-servants to return, whom they had sent forth free, and they subdue them for men-servants and for maid-servants.

12 A tunci Cuvântul Domnului a venit la Ieremia şi i-a zis:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

13 „ Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Eu am încheiat un legământ cu strămoşii voştri în ziua când i-am scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa sclaviei, şi le-am zis:

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I -- I made a covenant with your fathers in the day of My bringing them forth from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants, saying,

14 ‘ După şapte ani, fiecare din voi să elibereze pe fratele său evreu, care i se vinde lui ca sclav. Şase ani să-ţi slujească, după care să-l eliberezi!’ Strămoşii voştri însă nu M-au ascultat şi nu şi-au plecat urechea la ce le-am spus.

At the end of seven years ye do send forth each his brother, the Hebrew, who is sold to thee, and hath served thee six years, yea, thou hast sent him forth free from thee: and your fathers hearkened not unto Me, nor inclined their ear.

15 N u demult, voi v-aţi întors şi aţi făcut ce este drept în ochii Mei, fiecare dintre voi vestind eliberarea semenului său şi încheind un legământ înaintea Mea în Casa peste care este chemat Numele Meu.

`And ye turn back, ye to-day, and ye do that which is right in Mine eyes, to proclaim liberty each to his neighbour, and ye make a covenant before Me in the house over which My name is called.

16 D ar acum, v-aţi răzgândit şi Mi-aţi profanat Numele. Fiecare dintre voi şi-a luat înapoi sclavul şi sclava pe care îi eliberase şi pe care îi lăsase să meargă oriunde ar fi vrut. I-aţi forţat să devină iarăşi sclavul şi sclava voastră.»

And -- ye turn back, and pollute My name, and ye cause each his man-servant and each his maid-servant, whom he had sent forth free, (at their pleasure,) to return, and ye subdue them to be to you for men-servants and for maid-servants.

17 D e aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Pentru că nu M-aţi ascultat şi nu aţi vestit eliberarea pentru fratele şi pentru semenul vostru, iată, vestesc şi Eu împotriva voastră ‘eliberarea’, zice Domnul, ‘eliberarea’ sabiei, a molimei şi a foametei. Vă voi face o pricină de groază pentru toate regatele pământului.

`Therefore, thus said Jehovah: Ye have not hearkened unto Me to proclaim freedom, each to his brother, and each to his neighbour; lo, I am proclaiming to you liberty -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- unto the sword, unto the pestilence, and unto the famine, and I have given you for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth.

18 O amenilor care au încălcat legământul Meu şi care n-au împlinit cuvintele legământului pe care l-au încheiat înaintea Mea, le voi face întocmai ca viţelului pe care l-au tăiat în două şi au trecut printre cele două jumătăţi ale lui.

`And I have given the men who are transgressing My covenant, who have not established the words of the covenant that they have made before Me, by the calf, that they have cut in two, and pass through between its pieces --

19 P e conducătorii lui Iuda şi ai Ierusalimului, pe eunuci, pe preoţi şi pe toţi cei din poporul ţării care au trecut printre cele două părţi ale viţelului,

heads of Judah, and heads of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land those passing through between the pieces of the calf --

20 î i voi da în mâinile duşmanilor lor şi a celor ce caută să le ia viaţa. Hoiturile lor vor deveni mâncare pentru păsările cerului şi pentru fiarele pământului.

yea, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcase hath been for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth.

21 P e Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, şi pe conducătorii lui îi voi da în mâinile duşmanilor lor, în mâinile celor ce caută să le ia viaţa, în mâinile oştirii împăratului Babilonului, care s-a retras de la voi.

`And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his heads, I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon, that are going up from off you.

22 I ată, voi da poruncă, zice Domnul, şi-i voi aduce înapoi la cetatea aceasta. Se vor lupta împotriva ei, o vor cuceri şi îi vor da foc. Voi preface cetăţile lui Iuda într-o pustie lipsită de locuitori.»“

Lo, I am commanding -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and have brought them back unto this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and the cities of Judah I do make a desolation -- without inhabitant.'
