1 D ies ist das Wort, das vom HERRN geschah zu Jeremia, da Nebukadnezar, der König zu Babel, samt seinem Heer und allen Königreichen auf Erden, so unter seiner Gewalt waren, und allen Völkern stritt wider Jerusalem und alle ihre Städte, und sprach:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah -- and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his force, and all kingdoms of the land of the dominion of his hand, and all the peoples are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all its cities -- saying:

2 S o spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Gehe hin und sage Zedekia, dem König Juda's, und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich will diese Stadt in die Hände des Königs zu Babel geben, und er soll sie mit Feuer verbrennen.

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel: Go, and thou hast spoken unto Zedekiah king of Judah, and hast said unto him, Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he hath burned it with fire,

3 U nd du sollst seiner Hand nicht entrinnen, sondern gegriffen und in seine Hand gegeben werden, daß du ihn mit Augen sehen und mündlich mit ihm reden wirst, und gen Babel kommen.

and thou, thou dost not escape out of his hand, for thou art certainly caught, and into his hand thou art given, and thine eyes see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and his mouth with thy mouth speaketh, and Babylon thou enterest.

4 D och aber höre, Zedekia, du König Juda's, des HERRN Wort: So spricht der HERR von dir: Du sollst nicht durchs Schwert sterben,

`Only, hear a word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah, Thus said Jehovah unto thee: Thou dost not die by sword,

5 s ondern du sollst im Frieden sterben. Und wie deinen Vätern, den vorigen Königen, die vor dir gewesen sind, so wird man auch dir einen Brand anzünden und dich beklagen: "Ach Herr!" denn ich habe es geredet, spricht der HERR.

in peace thou diest, and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings who have been before thee, so they make a burning for thee; and Ah, lord, they lament for thee, for the word I have spoken -- an affirmation of Jehovah.'

6 U nd der Prophet Jeremia redete alle diese Worte zu Zedekia, dem König Juda's, zu Jerusalem,

And Jeremiah the prophet speaketh unto Zedekiah king of Judah all these words in Jerusalem,

7 d a das Heer des Königs zu Babel schon stritt wider Jerusalem und wider alle übrigen Städte Juda's, nämlich wider Lachis und Aseka; denn diese waren noch übriggeblieben von den festen Städten Juda's.

and the forces of the king of Babylon are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that are left -- against Lachish, and against Azekah, for these have been left among the cities of Judah, cities of fortresses.

8 D ies ist das Wort, so vom HERRN geschah zu Jeremia, nachdem der König Zedekia einen Bund gemacht hatte mit dem ganzen Volk zu Jerusalem, ein Freijahr auszurufen,

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after the making by the king Zedekiah of a covenant with all the people who in Jerusalem, to proclaim to them liberty,

9 d aß ein jeglicher seinen Knecht und seine Magd, so Hebräer und Hebräerin wären, sollte freigeben, daß kein Jude den andern leibeigen hielte.

to send out each his man-servant, and each his maid-servant -- the Hebrew and the Hebrewess -- free, so as not to lay service on them, any on a Jew his brother;

10 D a gehorchten alle Fürsten und alles Volk, die solchen Bund eingegangen waren, daß ein jeglicher sollte seinen Knecht und seine Magd freigeben und sie nicht mehr leibeigen halten, und gaben sie los.

and hearken do all the heads, and all the people who have come in to the covenant to send forth each his man-servant and each his maid-servant free, so as not to lay service on them any more, yea, they hearken, and send them away;

11 A ber darnach kehrten sie sich um und forderten die Knechte und Mägde wieder zu sich, die sie freigegeben hatten, und zwangen sie, daß sie Knechte und Mägde sein mußten.

and they turn afterwards, and cause the men-servants and the maid-servants to return, whom they had sent forth free, and they subdue them for men-servants and for maid-servants.

12 D a geschah des HERRN Wort zu Jeremia vom HERRN und sprach:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

13 S o spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Ich habe einen Bund gemacht mit euren Vätern, da ich sie aus Ägyptenland, aus dem Diensthause, führte und sprach:

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I -- I made a covenant with your fathers in the day of My bringing them forth from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants, saying,

14 I m siebenten Jahr soll ein jeglicher seinen Bruder, der ein Hebräer ist und sich ihm verkauft und sechs Jahre gedient hat, frei von sich lassen. Aber eure Väter gehorchten mir nicht und neigten ihre Ohren nicht.

At the end of seven years ye do send forth each his brother, the Hebrew, who is sold to thee, and hath served thee six years, yea, thou hast sent him forth free from thee: and your fathers hearkened not unto Me, nor inclined their ear.

15 S o habt ihr euch heute bekehrt und getan, was mir wohl gefiel, daß ihr ein Freijahr ließet ausrufen, ein jeglicher seinem Nächsten; und habt darüber einen Bund gemacht vor mir im Hause, das nach meinem Namen genannt ist.

`And ye turn back, ye to-day, and ye do that which is right in Mine eyes, to proclaim liberty each to his neighbour, and ye make a covenant before Me in the house over which My name is called.

16 A ber ihr seid umgeschlagen und entheiligt meinen Namen; und ein jeglicher fordert seinen Knecht und seine Magd wieder, die ihr hattet freigegeben, daß sie selbst eigen wären, und zwingt sie nun, daß sie eure Knechte und Mägde sein müssen.

And -- ye turn back, and pollute My name, and ye cause each his man-servant and each his maid-servant, whom he had sent forth free, (at their pleasure,) to return, and ye subdue them to be to you for men-servants and for maid-servants.

17 D arum spricht der HERR also: Ihr gehorchtet mir nicht, daß ihr ein Freijahr ausriefet ein jeglicher seinem Bruder und seinem Nächsten; siehe, so rufe ich, spricht der HERR, euch ein Freijahr aus zum Schwert, zur Pestilenz, zum Hunger, und will euch in keinem Königreich auf Erden bleiben lassen.

`Therefore, thus said Jehovah: Ye have not hearkened unto Me to proclaim freedom, each to his brother, and each to his neighbour; lo, I am proclaiming to you liberty -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- unto the sword, unto the pestilence, and unto the famine, and I have given you for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth.

18 U nd will die Leute, die meinen Bund übertreten und die Worte des Bundes, den sie vor mir gemacht haben, nicht halten, so machen wie das Kalb, das sie in zwei Stücke geteilt haben und sind zwischen den Teilen hingegangen,

`And I have given the men who are transgressing My covenant, who have not established the words of the covenant that they have made before Me, by the calf, that they have cut in two, and pass through between its pieces --

19 n ämlich die Fürsten Juda's, die Fürsten Jerusalems, die Kämmerer, die Priester und das ganze Volk im Lande, so zwischen des Kalbes Stücken hingegangen sind.

heads of Judah, and heads of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land those passing through between the pieces of the calf --

20 U nd will sie geben in ihrer Feinde Hand und derer, die ihnen nach dem Leben stehen, daß ihre Leichname sollen den Vögeln unter dem Himmel und den Tieren auf Erden zur Speise werden.

yea, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcase hath been for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth.

21 U nd Zedekia, den König Juda's, und seine Fürsten will ich geben in die Hände ihrer Feinde und derer, die ihnen nach dem Leben stehen, und dem Heer des Königs zu Babel, die jetzt von euch abgezogen sind.

`And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his heads, I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon, that are going up from off you.

22 D enn siehe, ich will ihnen befehlen, spricht der HERR, und will sie wieder vor diese Stadt bringen, und sollen wider sie streiten und sie gewinnen und mit Feuer verbrennen; und ich will die Städte Juda's verwüsten, daß niemand mehr da wohnen soll.

Lo, I am commanding -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and have brought them back unto this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and the cities of Judah I do make a desolation -- without inhabitant.'
