1 S iehe, ich will meinen Engel senden, der vor mir her den Weg bereiten soll. Und bald wird kommen zu seinem Tempel der HERR, den ihr suchet; der Engel des Bundes, des ihr begehret, siehe, er kommt! spricht der HERR Zebaoth.

Lo, I am sending My messenger, And he hath prepared a way before Me, And suddenly come in unto his temple Doth the Lord whom ye are seeking, Even the messenger of the covenant, Whom ye are desiring, Lo, he is coming, said Jehovah of Hosts.

2 W er wird aber den Tag seiner Zukunft erleiden können, und wer wird bestehen, wenn er wird erscheinen? Denn er ist wie das Feuer eines Goldschmieds und wie die Seifen der Wäscher.

And who is bearing the day of his coming? And who is standing in his appearing? For he as fire of a refiner, And as soap of a fuller.

3 E r wird sitzen und schmelzen und das Silber reinigen; er wird die Kinder Levi reinigen und läutern wie Gold und Silber. Dann werden sie dem HERRN Speisopfer bringen in Gerechtigkeit,

And he hath sat, a refiner and purifier of silver, And he hath purified the sons of Levi, And hath refined them as gold and as silver, And they have been to Jehovah bringing nigh a present in righteousness.

4 u nd wird dem HERRN wohl gefallen das Speisopfer Juda's und Jerusalems wie vormals und vor langen Jahren.

And sweet to Jehovah hath been the present of Judah and Jerusalem, As in days of old, and as in former years.

5 U nd ich will zu euch kommen und euch strafen und will ein schneller Zeuge sein wider die Zauberer, Ehebrecher und Meineidigen und wider die, so Gewalt und Unrecht tun den Tagelöhnern, Witwen und Waisen und den Fremdling drücken und mich nicht fürchten, spricht der HERR Zebaoth.

And I have drawn near to you for judgment, And I have been a witness, Making haste against sorcerers, And against adulterers, And against swearers to a falsehood, And against oppressors of the hire of an hireling, Of a widow, and of a fatherless one, And those turning aside a sojourner, And who fear Me not, said Jehovah of Hosts.

6 D enn ich bin der HERR und wandle mich nicht; und es soll mit euch Kindern Jakobs nicht gar aus sein.

For I Jehovah, I have not changed, And ye, the sons of Jacob, Ye have not been consumed.

7 I hr seid von eurer Väter Zeit immerdar abgewichen von meinen Geboten und habt sie nicht gehalten. So bekehrt euch nun zu mir, so will ich mich zu euch auch kehren, spricht der HERR Zebaoth. So sprecht ihr: "Worin sollen wir uns bekehren?"

Even from the days of your fathers Ye have turned aside from My statutes, And ye have not taken heed. Turn back unto Me, and I turn back to you, Said Jehovah of Hosts. And ye have said, `In what do we turn back?'

8 I st's recht, daß ein Mensch Gott täuscht, wie ihr mich den täuschet? So sprecht ihr: "Womit täuschen wir dich?" Am Zehnten und Hebopfer.

Doth man deceive God? but ye are deceiving Me, And ye have said: `In what have we deceived Thee?' The tithe and the heave-offering!

9 D arum seid ihr auch verflucht, daß euch alles unter den Händen zerrinnt; denn ihr täuscht mich allesamt.

With a curse ye are cursed! And Me ye are deceiving -- this nation -- all of it.

10 B ringt mir den Zehnten ganz in mein Kornhaus, auf daß in meinem Hause Speise sei, und prüft mich hierin, spricht der HERR Zebaoth, ob ich euch nicht des Himmels Fenster auftun werde und Segen herabschütten die Fülle.

Bring in all the tithe unto the treasure-house, And there is food in My house; When ye have tried Me, now, with this, Said Jehovah of Hosts, Do not I open to you the windows of heaven? Yea, I have emptied on you a blessing till there is no space.

11 U nd ich will für euch den Fresser schelten, daß er euch die Frucht auf dem Felde nicht verderben soll und der Weinstock im Acker euch nicht unfruchtbar sei, spricht der HERR Zebaoth;

And I have pushed for you against the consumer, And He doth not destroy to you the fruit of the ground, Nor miscarry to you doth the vine in the field, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

12 d aß euch alle Heiden sollen selig preisen, denn ihr sollt ein wertes Land sein, spricht der HERR Zebaoth.

And declared you happy have all the nations, For ye are a delightful land, said Jehovah of Hosts.

13 I hr redet hart wider mich, spricht der HERR. So sprecht ihr: "Was reden wir wider dich?"

Hard against Me have been your words, Said Jehovah, and ye have said: `What have we spoken against Thee?'

14 D amit daß ihr sagt: Es ist umsonst, daß man Gott dient; und was nützt es, daß wir sein Gebot halten und ein hartes Leben vor dem HERR Zebaoth führen?

Ye have said, `A vain thing to serve God! And what gain when we kept His charge? And when we have gone in black, Because of Jehovah of Hosts?

15 D arum preisen wir die Verächter; denn die Gottlosen nehmen zu; sie versuchen Gott, und alles geht ihnen wohl aus.

And now, we are declaring the proud happy, Yea, built up have been those doing wickedness, Yea they have tempted God, and escape.'

16 A ber die Gottesfürchtigen trösten sich untereinander also: Der HERR merkt und hört es, und vor ihm ist ein Denkzettel geschrieben für die, so den HERRN fürchten und an seinen Namen gedenken.

Then have those fearing Jehovah spoken one to another, And Jehovah doth attend and hear, And written is a book of memorial before Him Of those fearing Jehovah, And of those esteeming His name.

17 S ie sollen spricht der HERR Zebaoth, des Tages, den ich machen will, mein Eigentum sein; und ich will ihrer schonen, wie ein Mann seines Sohnes schont, der ihm dient.

And they have been to Me, said Jehovah of Hosts, In the day that I am appointing -- a peculiar treasure, And I have had pity on them, As one hath pity on his son who is serving him.

18 U nd ihr sollt dagegen wiederum den Unterschied sehen, was für ein Unterschied sei zwischen dem Gerechten und dem Gottlosen, und zwischen dem, der Gott dient, und dem, der ihm nicht dient.

And ye have turned back and considered, Between the righteous and the wicked, Between the servant of God and him who is not His servant.
