1 U nd der Satan stand wider Israel und reizte David, daß er Israel zählen ließe.

And there standeth up an adversary against Israel, and persuadeth David to number Israel,

2 U nd David sprach zu Joab und zu des Volkes Obersten: Gehet hin, zählt Israel von Beer-Seba an bis gen Dan und bringt es zu mir, daß ich wisse, wieviel ihrer sind.

And David saith unto Joab, and unto the heads of the people, `Go, number Israel from Beer-Sheba even unto Dan, and bring unto me, and I know their number.'

3 J oab sprach: Der HERR tue zu seinem Volk, wie sie jetzt sind, hundertmal soviel; aber, mein Herr König, sind sie nicht alle meines Herrn Knechte? Warum fragt denn mein Herr darnach? Warum soll eine Schuld auf Israel kommen?

And Joab saith, `Jehovah doth add to His people as they are a hundred times; are they not, my lord, O king, all of them to my lord for servants? why doth my lord seek this? why is he for a cause of guilt to Israel?'

4 A ber des Königs Wort stand fest wider Joab. Und Joab zog aus und wandelte durch das ganze Israel und kam gen Jerusalem

And the word of the king severe against Joab, and Joab goeth out, and goeth up and down in all Israel, and cometh in to Jerusalem.

5 u nd gab die Zahl des gezählten Volks David. Und es waren des ganzen Israels elfhundertmal tausend Mann, die das Schwert auszogen, und Juda's vierhundertmal und siebzigtausend Mann, die das Schwert auszogen.

And Joab giveth the account of the numbering of the people unto David, and all Israel is a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand, each drawing sword, and Judah four hundred and seventy thousand, each drawing sword.

6 L evi aber und Benjamin zählte er nicht unter ihnen; denn es war dem Joab des Königs Wort ein Greuel.

And Levi and Benjamin he hath not numbered in their midst, for the word of the king was abominable with Joab.

7 A ber solches gefiel Gott übel, und er schlug Israel.

And it is evil in the eyes of God concerning this thing, and He smiteth Israel,

8 U nd David sprach zu Gott: Ich habe schwer gesündigt, daß ich das getan habe. Nun aber nimm weg die Missetat deines Knechtes; denn ich habe sehr töricht getan.

and David saith unto God, `I have sinned exceedingly, in that I have done this thing; and now, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

9 U nd der HERR redete mit Gad, dem Seher Davids, und sprach:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Gad, seer of David, saying:

10 G ehe hin, rede mit David und sprich: So spricht der HERR: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor; erwähle dir eins, daß ich es dir tue.

`Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Three -- I am stretching out unto thee; choose for thee one of these, and I do to thee.'

11 U nd da Gad zu David kam, sprach er zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Erwähle dir

And Gad cometh in unto David, and saith to him, `Thus said Jehovah, Take for thee --

12 e ntweder drei Jahre Teuerung, oder drei Monate Flucht vor deinen Widersachern und vor dem Schwert deiner Feinde, daß dich's ergreife, oder drei Tage das Schwert des HERRN und Pestilenz im Lande, daß der Engel des HERRN verderbe in allen Grenzen Israels. So siehe nun zu, was ich antworten soll dem, der mich gesandt hat.

either for three years -- famine, or three months to be consumed from the face of thine adversaries, even the sword of thine enemies to overtake, or three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and a messenger of Jehovah destroying in all the border of Israel; and now, see; what word do I return to Him who is sending me?'

13 D avid sprach zu Gad: Mir ist sehr angst; doch ich will in die Hand des HERRN fallen, denn seine Barmherzigkeit ist sehr groß, und will nicht in Menschenhände fallen.

And David saith unto Gad, `I am greatly distressed, let me fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for very many His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

14 D a ließ der HERR Pestilenz in Israel kommen, daß siebzigtausend Mann fielen aus Israel.

And Jehovah giveth a pestilence in Israel, and there fall of Israel seventy thousand men,

15 U nd Gott sandte den Engel gen Jerusalem, sie zu verderben. Und im Verderben sah der HERR darein und reute ihn das Übel, und er sprach zum Engel, dem Verderber: Es ist genug; laß deine Hand ab! Der Engel aber des HERRN stand bei der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters.

and God sendeth a messenger to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he is destroying Jehovah hath seen, and is comforted concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who destroying, `Enough, now, cease thy hand.' And the messenger of Jehovah is standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,

16 U nd David hob seine Augen auf und sah den Engel des HERRN stehen zwischen Himmel und Erde und sein bloßes Schwert in seiner Hand ausgereckt über Jerusalem. Da fielen David und die Ältesten, mit Säcken bedeckt, auf ihr Antlitz.

and David lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the messenger of Jehovah standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem, and David falleth, and the elders, covered with sackcloth, on their faces.

17 U nd David sprach zu Gott: Bin ich's nicht, der das Volk zählen hieß? ich bin, der gesündigt und das Übel getan hat; diese Schafe aber, was haben sie getan? HERR, mein Gott, laß deine Hand wider mich und meines Vaters Haus, und nicht wider dein Volk sein, es zu plagen!

And David saith unto God, `Did not I -- I say to number the people? Yea, I it who have sinned, and done great evil: and these, the flock, what did they? O Jehovah, my God, let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father, and not on Thy people -- to be plagued.'

18 U nd der Engel des HERRN sprach zu Gad, daß er David sollte sagen, daß David hinaufgehen und dem HERRN einen Altar aufrichten sollte in der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters.

And the messenger of Jehovah spake unto Gad, saying for David, `Surely David doth go up to raise an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.'

19 A lso ging David hinauf nach dem Wort Gads, das er geredet hatte in des HERRN Namen.

And David goeth up by the word of Gad, that he spake in the name of Jehovah.

20 O rnan aber, da er sich wandte und sah den Engel, und seine vier Söhne mit ihm, versteckten sie sich; denn Ornan drosch Weizen.

And Ornan turneth back, and seeth the messenger, and his four sons with him, hiding themselves, and Ornan is threshing wheat.

21 A ls nun David zu Ornan ging, sah Ornan und ward Davids gewahr und ging heraus aus der Tenne und fiel vor David nieder mit seinem Antlitz zur Erde.

And David cometh in unto Ornan, and Ornan looketh attentively, and seeth David, and goeth out from the threshing-floor, and boweth himself to David -- face to the earth.

22 U nd David sprach zu Ornan: Gib mir den Platz der Tenne, daß ich einen Altar dem HERRN darauf baue; um volles Geld sollst du ihn mir geben, auf daß die Plage unter dem Volk aufhöre.

And David saith unto Ornan, `Give to me the place of the threshing-floor, and I build in it an altar to Jehovah; for full silver give it to me, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

23 O rnan aber sprach zu David: Nimm dir und mache, mein Herr König, wie dir's gefällt: siehe, ich gebe das Rind zum Brandopfer und das Geschirr zu Holz und Weizen zum Speisopfer; das alles gebe ich.

And Ornan saith unto David, `Take to thee -- and my lord the king doth that which is good in his eyes: see, I have given the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for a present; the whole I have given.'

24 A ber der König David sprach zu Ornan: Nicht also, sondern um volles Geld will ich's kaufen; denn ich will nicht, was dein ist, nehmen für den HERRN und will's nicht umsonst haben zum Brandopfer.

And king David saith to Ornan, `Nay, for I surely buy for full silver; for I do not lift up that which is thine to Jehovah, so as to offer a burnt-offering without cost.'

25 A lso gab David Ornan um den Platz Gold, am Gewicht sechshundert Lot.

And David giveth to Ornan for the place shekels of gold weight six hundred;

26 U nd David baute daselbst dem HERRN einen Altar und opferte Brandopfer und Dankopfer. Und da er den HERRN anrief, erhörte er ihn durch das Feuer vom Himmel auf den Altar des Brandopfers.

and David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and offereth burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and calleth unto Jehovah, and He answereth him with fire from the heavens on the altar of the burnt-offering.

27 U nd der HERR sprach zum Engel, daß er sein Schwert in sein Scheide kehrte.

And Jehovah saith to the messenger, and he turneth back his sword unto its sheath.

28 Z ur selben Zeit, da David sah, daß ihn der HERR erhört hatte auf der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters, pflegte er daselbst zu opfern.

At that time when David seeth that Jehovah hath answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificeth there;

29 D enn die Wohnung des HERRN, die Mose in der Wüste gemacht hatte, und der Brandopferaltar war zu der Zeit auf der Höhe zu Gibeon.

and the tabernacle of Jehovah that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, at that time in a high place, in Gibeon;

30 D avid aber konnte nicht hingehen vor denselben, Gott zu suchen, so war er erschrocken vor dem Schwert des Engels des HERRN.

and David is not able to go before it to seek God, for he hath been afraid because of the sword of the messenger of Jehovah.
