1 W eh den Schriftgelehrten, die ungerechte Gesetze machen und die unrechtes Urteil schreiben,

Wo those decreeing decrees of iniquity, And writers who have prescribed perverseness.

2 a uf daß sie die Sache der Armen beugen und Gewalt üben am Recht der Elenden unter meinem Volk, daß die Witwen ihr Raub und die Waisen ihre Beute sein müssen!

To turn aside from judgment the poor, And to take violently away the judgment Of the afflicted of My people, That widows may be their prey, That the fatherless they may spoil.

3 W as wollt ihr tun am Tage der Heimsuchung und des Unglücks, das von fern kommt? Zu wem wollt ihr fliehen um Hilfe? Und wo wollt ihr eure Ehre lassen,

And what do ye at a day of inspection? And at desolation? -- from afar it cometh. Near whom do ye flee for help? And where do ye leave your honour?

4 d aß sie nicht unter die Gefangenen gebeugt werde und unter die Erschlagenen falle? In dem allem läßt sein Zorn nicht ab, seine Hand ist noch ausgereckt.

Without Me it hath bowed down In the place of a bound one, And in the place of the slain they fall. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.

5 O weh Assur, der meines Zornes Rute und in dessen Hand meines Grimmes Stecken ist!

Wo Asshur, a rod of Mine anger, And a staff in their hand Mine indignation.

6 I ch will ihn senden gegen ein Heuchelvolk und ihm Befehl tun gegen das Volk meines Zorns, daß er's beraube und austeile und zertrete es wie Kot auf der Gasse,

Against a profane nation I send him, And concerning a people of My wrath I charge him, To spoil spoil, and to seize prey, And to make it a treading-place as the clay of out places.

7 w iewohl er's nicht so meint und sein Herz nicht so denkt; sondern sein Herz steht, zu vertilgen und auszurotten nicht wenig Völker.

And he -- he thinketh not so, And his heart reckoneth not so, For -- to destroy in his heart, And to cut off nations not a few.

8 D enn er spricht: Sind meine Fürsten nicht allzumal Könige?

For he saith, `Are not my princes altogether kings?

9 I st Kalno nicht wie Karchemis? ist Hamath nicht wie Arpad? ist nicht Samaria wie Damaskus?

Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?

10 W ie meine Hand gefunden hat die Königreiche der Götzen, so doch ihre Götzen stärker waren, denn die zu Jerusalem und Samaria sind:

As my hand hath got to the kingdoms of a worthless thing, and their graven images, than Jerusalem and than Samaria,

11 s ollte ich nicht Jerusalem tun und ihren Götzen, wie ich Samaria und ihren Götzen getan habe?

Do I not -- as I have done to Samaria, And to her worthless things, So do to Jerusalem and to her grievous things?

12 W enn aber der HERR all sein Werk ausgerichtet hat auf dem Berge Zion und zu Jerusalem, will ich heimsuchen die Frucht des Hochmuts des Königs von Assyrien und die Pracht seiner Hoffärtigen Augen,

And it hath come to pass, When the Lord doth fulfil all His work In mount Zion and in Jerusalem, I see concerning the fruit of the greatness Of the heart of the king of Asshur. And concerning the glory of the height of his eyes.

13 d arum daß er spricht: Ich habe es durch meiner Hände Kraft ausgerichtet und durch meine Weisheit, denn ich bin klug; ich habe die Länder anders geteilt und ihr Einkommen geraubt und wie ein Mächtiger die Einwohner zu Boden geworfen,

For he hath said, `By the power of my hand I have wrought, And by my wisdom, for I have been intelligent, And I remove borders of the peoples, And their chief ones I have spoiled, And I put down as a mighty one the inhabitants,

14 u nd meine Hand hat gefunden die Völker wie ein Vogelnest, daß ich habe alle Lande zusammengerafft, wie man Eier aufrafft, die verlassen sind, da keines eine Feder regt oder den Schnabel aufsperrt oder zischt.

And my hand as to a nest Getteth to the wealth of the peoples, And as a gathering of forsaken eggs All the earth I -- I have gathered, And there hath not been one moving wing, Or opening mouth, or whispering.'

15 M ag sich auch eine Axt rühmen gegen den, der damit haut? oder eine Säge trotzen gegen den, der sie zieht? Als ob die Rute schwänge den der sie hebt; als ob der Stecken höbe den, der kein Holz ist!

-- Doth the axe glorify itself Against him who is hewing with it? Doth the saw magnify itself Against him who is shaking it? As a rod waving those lifting it up! As a staff lifting up that which is not wood!

16 D arum wird der HERR HERR Zebaoth unter die Fetten Assurs die Darre senden, und seine Herrlichkeit wird er anzünden, daß sie brennen wird wie ein Feuer.

Therefore doth the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, Send among his fat ones leanness, And under his honour He kindleth a burning As the burning of a fire.

17 U nd das Licht Israels wird ein Feuer sein, und sein Heiliger wird eine Flamme sein, und sie wird seine Dornen und Hecken anzünden und verzehren auf einen Tag.

And the light of Israel hath been for a fire, And his Holy One for a flame, And it hath burned, and devoured his thorn And his brier in one day.

18 U nd die Herrlichkeit seines Waldes und seines Baumgartens soll zunichte werden, von den Seelen bis aufs Fleisch, und wird zergehen und verschwinden,

And the honour of his forest, and his fruitful field, From soul even unto flesh He doth consume, And it hath been as the fainting of a standard-bearer.

19 d aß die übrigen Bäume seines Waldes können gezählt werden und ein Knabe sie kann aufschreiben.

And the rest of the trees of his forest few, And a youth doth write them.

20 Z u der Zeit werden die Übriggebliebenen in Israel und die errettet werden im Hause Jakob, sich nicht mehr verlassen auf den, der sie schlägt; sondern sie werden sich verlassen auf den HERRN, den Heiligen in Israel, in der Wahrheit.

And it hath come to pass, in that day, The remnant of Israel, And the escaped of the house of Jacob, Do not add any more to lean on its smiter, And have leant on Jehovah, The Holy One of Israel, in truth.

21 D ie Übriggebliebenen werden sich bekehren, ja, die Übriggebliebenen in Jakob, zu Gott, dem Starken.

A remnant returneth -- a remnant of Jacob, Unto the Mighty God.

22 D enn ob dein Volk, o Israel, ist wie Sand am Meer, sollen doch nur seine Übriggebliebenen bekehrt werden. Denn Verderben ist beschlossen; und die Gerechtigkeit kommt überschwenglich.

For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, A remnant doth return of it, A consumption determined, Overflowing righteousness.

23 D enn der HERR HERR Zebaoth wird ein Verderben gehen lassen, wie beschlossen ist, im ganzen Lande.

For a consumption that is determined, The Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is making in the midst of all the land.

24 D arum spricht der HERR HERR Zebaoth: Fürchte dich nicht, mein Volk, das zu Zion wohnt, vor Assur. Er wird dich mit einem Stecken schlagen und seinen Stab wider dich aufheben, wie in Ägypten geschah.

Therefore, thus said the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, `Be not afraid, my people, inhabiting Zion, because of Asshur, With a rod he doth smite thee, And his staff lifteth up against thee, in the way of Egypt.

25 D enn es ist noch gar um ein kleines zu tun, so wird die Ungnade und mein Zorn über ihre Untugend ein Ende haben.

For yet a very little, And the indignation hath been completed, And Mine anger by their wearing out.

26 A lsdann wird der HERR Zebaoth eine Geißel über ihn erwecken wie in der Schlacht Midians auf dem Fels Oreb und wird seinen Stab, den er am Meer brauchte, aufheben wie in Ägypten.

And awaking for him is Jehovah of Hosts, A scourge like the smiting of Midian at the rock Oreb, And his rod over the sea, And he hath lifted it in the way of Egypt.

27 Z u der Zeit wird seine Last von deiner Schulter weichen müssen und sein Joch von deinem Halse; denn das Joch wird bersten vor dem Fett.

And it hath come to pass, in that day, Turned is his burden from off thy shoulder, And his yoke from off thy neck, And destroyed hath been the yoke, because of prosperity.

28 E r kommt gen Ajath; er zieht durch Migron; er mustert sein Gerät zu Michmas.

He hath come in against Aiath, He hath passed over into Migron, At Michmash he looketh after his vessels.

29 S ie ziehen durch den engen Weg, bleiben in Geba über Nacht. Rama erschrickt; Gibea Sauls flieht.

They have gone over the passage, Geba they have made a lodging place, Trembled hath Rama, Gibeah of Saul fled.

30 D u Tochter Gallim, schreie laut! merke auf, Laisa, du elendes Anathoth!

Cry aloud thy voice, daughter of Gallim, Give attention, Laish! answer her, Anathoth.

31 M admena weicht; die Bürger zu Gebim werden flüchtig.

Fled away hath Madmenah, The inhabitants of the high places have hardened themselves.

32 M an bleibt vielleicht einen Tag zu Nob, so wird er seine Hand regen wider den Berg der Tochter Zion, wider den Hügel Jerusalems.

Yet to-day in Nob to remain, Wave its hand doth the mount of the daughter of Zion, The hill of Jerusalem.

33 A ber siehe, der HERR HERR Zebaoth wird die Äste mit Macht verhauen, und was hoch aufgerichtet steht, verkürzen, daß die Hohen erniedrigt werden.

Lo, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is lopping a branch with violence, And the high of stature are cut down, And the lofty are become low,

34 U nd der Dicke Wald wird mit Eisen umgehauen werden, und der Libanon wird fallen durch den Mächtigen.

And He hath gone round the thickets of the forest with iron, And Lebanon by a mighty one falleth!
