1 I m dritten Jahr Hoseas, des Sohnes Elas, des Königs über Israel, ward König Hiskia, der Sohn Ahas, des Königs in Juda.

And it cometh to pass, in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, reigned hath Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah;

2 E r war fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt, da er König ward, und regierte neunundzwanzig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Abi, eine Tochter Sacharjas.

a son of twenty and five years was he in his reigning, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Abi daughter of Zechariah.

3 U nd er tat, was dem HERRN wohl gefiel, wie sein Vater David.

And he doth that which right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that David his father did,

4 E r tat ab die Höhen und zerbrach die Säulen und rottete das Ascherabild aus und zerstieß die eherne Schlange, die Mose gemacht hatte; denn bis zu der Zeit hatten ihr die Kinder Israel geräuchert, und man hieß sie Nehusthan.

he hath turned aside the high places, and broken in pieces the standing-pillars, and cut down the shrine, and beaten down the brazen serpent that Moses made, for unto these days were the sons of Israel making perfume to it, and he calleth it `a piece of brass.'

5 E r vertraute dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, daß nach ihm seinesgleichen nicht war unter allen Königen Juda's noch vor ihm gewesen.

In Jehovah, God of Israel, he hath trusted, and after him there hath not been like him among all the kings of Judah, nor who were before him;

6 E r hing dem HERRN an und wich nicht von ihm ab und hielt seine Gebote, die der HERR dem Mose geboten hatte.

and he cleaveth to Jehovah, he hath not turned aside from after Him, and keepeth His commands that Jehovah commanded Moses.

7 U nd der HERR war mit ihm; und wo er auszog handelte er klüglich. Dazu ward er abtrünnig vom König von Assyrien und war ihm nicht untertan.

And Jehovah hath been with him, in every place where he goeth out he acteth wisely, and he rebelleth against the king of Asshur, and hath not served him;

8 E r schlug die Philister bis gen Gaza und ihr Gebiet von den Wachttürmen an bis die festen Städte.

he hath smitten the Philistines unto Gaza, and its borders, from a tower of watchers unto the fenced city.

9 I m vierten Jahr Hiskias, des Königs in Juda (das war das siebente Jahr Hoseas, des Sohnes Elas, des Königs über Israel), da zog Salmanasser, der König von Assyrien, herauf wider Samaria und belagerte es

And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of king Hezekiah -- it the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel -- come up hath Shalmaneser king of Asshur against Samaria, and layeth siege to it,

10 u nd gewann es nach drei Jahren; im sechsten Jahr Hiskias, das ist im neunten Jahr Hoseas, des Königs Israels, da ward Samaria gewonnen.

and they capture it at the end of three years; in the sixth year of Hezekiah -- it the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel -- hath Samaria been captureth,

11 U nd der König von Assyrien führte Israel weg gen Assyrien und setzte sie nach Halah und an den Habor, an das Wasser Gosan und in die Städte der Meder,

and the king of Asshur removeth Israel to Asshur, and placed them in Halah, and in Habor the river Gozan, and cities of the Medes,

12 d arum daß sie nicht gehorcht hatten der Stimme des HERRN, ihres Gottes, und übertreten hatten seinen Bund und alles, was Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, geboten hatte; deren sie keines gehört noch getan.

because that they have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and transgress His covenant -- all that He commanded Moses, servant of Jehovah -- yea, they have not hearkened nor done.

13 I m vierzehnten Jahr aber des Königs Hiskia zog herauf Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, wider alle festen Städte Juda's und nahm sie ein.

And in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah hath Sennacherib king of Asshur come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and seizeth them,

14 D a sandte Hiskia, der König Juda's, zum König von Assyrien gen Lachis und ließ ihm sagen: Ich habe mich versündigt. Kehre um von mir; was du mir auflegst, will ich tragen. Da legte der König von Assyrien Hiskia, dem König Juda's, dreihundert Zentner Silber auf und dreißig Zentner Gold.

and Hezekiah king of Judah sendeth unto the king of Asshur to Lachish, saying, `I have sinned, turn back from off me; that which thou puttest on me I bear;' and the king of Asshur layeth on Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold,

15 A lso gab Hiskia all das Silber, das im Hause des HERRN und in den Schätzen des Königshauses gefunden ward.

and Hezekiah giveth all the silver that is found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the house of the king;

16 Z ur selben Zeit zerbrach Hiskia, der König Juda's, die Türen am Tempel des HERRN und die Bleche, die er selbst hatte darüberziehen lassen, und gab sie dem König von Assyrien.

at that time hath Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Jehovah, and the pillars that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and giveth them to the king of Asshur.

17 U nd der König von Assyrien sandte den Tharthan und den Erzkämmerer und den Erzschenken von Lachis zum König Hiskia mit großer Macht gen Jerusalem, und sie zogen herauf. Und da sie hinkamen, hielten sie an der Wasserleitung des oberen Teiches, der da liegt an der Straße bei dem Acker des Walkmüllers,

And the king of Asshur sendeth Tartan, and the chief of the eunuchs, and the chief of the butlers, from Lachish, unto king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, to Jerusalem, and they go up and come in to Jerusalem, and they go up, and come in and stand by the conduit of the upper pool that in the highway of the fuller's field.

18 u nd riefen nach dem König. Da kam heraus zu ihnen Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkias, der Hofmeister, und Sebna, der Schreiber, und Joah, der Sohn Asaphs, der Kanzler.

And they call unto the king, and go out unto them doth Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the remembrancer.

19 U nd der Erzschenke sprach zu ihnen: Sagt doch dem König Hiskia: So spricht der große König, der König von Assyrien: Was ist das für ein Trotz, darauf du dich verläßt?

And the chief of the butlers saith unto them, `Say, I pray you, unto Hezekiah, Thus said the great king, the king of Asshur, What this confidence in which thou hast confided?

20 M einst du, es sei noch Rat und Macht, zu streiten? Worauf verläßt du dich denn, daß du mir abtrünnig geworden bist?

Thou hast said: Only a word of the lips! counsel and might for battle; now, on whom hast thou trusted that thou hast rebelled against me?

21 S iehe, verlässest du dich auf diesen zerstoßenen Rohrstab, auf Ägypten, welcher, so sich jemand darauf lehnt, wird er ihm die Hand durchbohren? Also ist Pharao, der König in Ägypten, allen, die sich auf ihn verlassen.

`Now, lo, thou hast trusted for thee on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it! -- so Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.

22 O b ihr aber wolltet zu mir sagen: Wir verlassen uns auf den HERRN, unsern Gott! ist's denn nicht der, dessen Höhen und Altäre Hiskia hat abgetan und gesagt zu Juda und zu Jerusalem: Vor diesem Altar, der zu Jerusalem ist, sollt ihr anbeten?

`And when ye say unto me, Unto Jehovah our God we have trusted, is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath turned aside, and saith to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar do ye bow yourselves in Jerusalem?

23 W ohlan, nimm eine Wette an mit meinem Herrn, dem König von Assyrien: ich will dir zweitausend Rosse geben, ob du könntest Reiter dazu geben.

`And, now, give a pledge for thee, I pray thee, to my lord the king of Asshur, and I give to thee two thousand horses, if thou art able to give for thee riders on them.

24 W ie willst du denn bleiben vor der geringsten Hauptleute einem von meines Herrn Untertanen? Und du verläßt dich auf Ägypten um der Wagen und Reiter willen.

And how dost thou turn back the face of one captain of the least of the servants of my lord, that thou dost trust for thee on Egypt for chariot, and for horsemen?

25 M einst du aber, ich sei ohne den HERRN heraufgezogen, daß ich diese Stätte verderbe? Der HERR hat mich's geheißen: Ziehe hinauf in dies Land und verderbe es!

Now, without Jehovah have I come up against this place to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up against this land, and thou hast destroyed it.'

26 D a sprach Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkias und Sebna und Joah zum Erzschenken: Rede mit deinen Knechten auf syrisch, denn deine Knechte verstehen es; und rede nicht mit uns auf jüdisch vor den Ohren des Volks, das auf der Mauer ist.

And Eliakim son of Hilkiah saith -- and Shebna, and Joah -- to the chief of the butlers, `Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants Aramaean, for we are understanding, and do not speak with us Jewish, in the ears of the people who on the wall.'

27 A ber der Erzschenke sprach zu ihnen: Hat mich denn mein Herr zu deinem Herrn oder zu dir gesandt, daß ich solche Worte rede? und nicht vielmehr zu den Männern, die auf der Mauer sitzen, daß sie mit euch ihren eigenen Mist fressen und ihren Harn saufen?

And the chief of the butlers saith unto them, `For thy lord, and unto thee, hath my lord sent me to speak these words? is it not for the men, those sitting on the wall to eat their own dung and to drink their own water, with you?'

28 A lso stand der Erzschenke auf und redete mit lauter Stimme auf jüdisch und sprach: Hört das Wort des großen Königs, des Königs von Assyrien!

And the chief of the butlers standeth and calleth with a great voice Jewish, and speaketh and saith, `Hear ye a word of the great king, the king of Asshur:

29 S o spricht der König: Laßt euch Hiskia nicht betrügen; denn er vermag euch nicht zu erretten von meiner Hand.

thus said the king, Let not Hezekiah lift you up, for he is not able to deliver you out of his hand;

30 U nd laßt euch Hiskia nicht vertrösten auf den HERRN, daß er sagt: Der HERR wird uns erretten, und diese Stadt wird nicht in die Hände des Königs von Assyrien gegeben werden.

and let not Hezekiah make you trust unto Jehovah, saying, Jehovah doth certainly deliver us, and this city is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

31 G ehorchet Hiskia nicht! Denn so spricht der König von Assyrien: Nehmet an meine Gnade und kommt zu mir heraus, so soll jedermann von seinem Weinstock und seinem Feigenbaum essen und von seinem Brunnen trinken,

`Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus said the king of Asshur, Make with me a blessing, and come out unto me, and eat ye each of his vine, and each of his fig-tree, and drink ye each the waters of his own well,

32 b is ich komme und hole euch in ein Land, das eurem Lande gleich ist, darin Korn, Most, Brot, Weinberge, Ölbäume und Honig sind; so werdet ihr leben bleiben und nicht sterben. Gehorchet Hiskia nicht; denn er verführt euch, daß er spricht: Der HERR wird uns erretten.

till my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive, and honey, and live, and die not; and do not hearken unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us.

33 H aben auch die Götter der Heiden ein jeglicher sein Land errettet von der Hand des Königs von Assyrien?

`Have the gods of the nations delivered at all each his land out of the hand of the king of Asshur?

34 W o sind die Götter zu Hamath und Arpad? Wo sind die Götter zu Sepharvaim, Hena und Iwwa? Haben sie auch Samaria errettet von meiner Hand?

Where the gods of Hamath and Arpad? where the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah, that they have delivered Samaria out of my hand?

35 W o ist ein Gott unter aller Lande Göttern, die ihr Land haben von meiner Hand errettet, daß der HERR sollte Jerusalem von meiner Hand erretten?

Who among all the gods of the lands that have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah doth deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'

36 D as Volk aber schwieg still und antwortete ihm nichts; denn der König hatte geboten und gesagt: Antwortet ihm nichts.

And the people have kept silent, and have not answered him a word, for the command of the king is, saying, `Do not answer him.'

37 D a kamen Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkias, und Sebna, der Schreiber, und Joah, der Sohn Asaphs, der Kanzler, zu Hiskia mit zerrissenen Kleidern und sagten ihm an die Worte des Erzschenken.

And Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, cometh in, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the remembrancer, unto Hezekiah, with rent garments, and they declare to him the words of the chief of the butlers.
