1 D a aber der König Hiskia das hörte, zerriß er seine Kleider und hüllte einen Sack um sich und ging in das Haus des HERRN

And it cometh to pass, at the king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,

2 u nd sandte Eljakim, den Hofmeister, und Sebna, den Schreiber, samt den Ältesten der Priester, mit Säcken umhüllt, zu dem Propheten Jesaja, dem Sohn des Amoz,

and sendeth Eliakim, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet,

3 d aß sie zu ihm sprächen: So spricht Hiskia: Das ist ein Tag der Trübsal, des Scheltens und Lästerns, und es geht, gleich als wenn die Kinder bis an die Geburt gekommen sind und ist keine Kraft da, zu gebären.

and they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah, A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising, this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bear.

4 D aß doch der HERR, dein Gott, hören wollte die Worte des Erzschenken, welchen sein Herr, der König von Assyrien, gesandt hat, zu lästern den lebendigen Gott und zu schelten mit solchen Worten, wie der HERR, dein Gott, gehört hat! Und du wollest ein Gebet erheben für die übrigen, die noch vorhanden sind.

`It may be Jehovah thy God doth hear the words of Rabshakeh with which the king of Asshur his lord hath sent him to reproach the living God, and hath decided concerning the words that Jehovah thy God hath heard, and thou hast lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.'

5 U nd die Knechte des Königs Hiskia kamen zu Jesaja.

And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

6 J esaja aber sprach: So saget eurem Herrn: Der HERR spricht also: Fürchte dich nicht vor den Worten, die du gehört hast, mit welchen mich die Knechte des Königs von Assyrien geschmäht haben.

and Isaiah saith unto them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord, Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.

7 S iehe, ich will ihm einen anderen Mut machen, und er soll etwas hören, daß er wieder heimziehe in sein Land; und will ihn durchs Schwert fällen in seinem Lande.

Lo, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back unto his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'

8 D a aber der Erzschenke wiederkam, fand er den König von Assyrien streiten wider Libna; denn er hatte gehört, daß er gen Lachis gezogen war.

And Rabshakeh turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.

9 U nd es kam ein Gerücht von Thirhaka, der Mohren König, sagend: Er ist ausgezogen, wider dich zu streiten.

And he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `He hath come out to fight with thee;' and he heareth, and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,

10 D a er nun solches hörte, sandte er Boten zu Hiskia und ließ ihm sagen: Sagt Hiskia, dem König Juda's, also: Laß dich deinen Gott nicht betrügen, auf den du dich verläßt und sprichst: Jerusalem wird nicht in die Hand des Königs von Assyrien gegeben werden.

`Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

11 S iehe, du hast gehört, was die Könige von Assyrien getan haben allen Landen und sie verbannt; und du solltest errettet werden?

Lo, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands -- to devote them -- and thou art delivered!

12 H aben auch die Götter der Heiden die Lande errettet, welche meine Väter verderbt haben, als Gosan, Haran, Rezeph und die Kinder Edens zu Thelassar?

Did the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed -- Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who in Telassar?

13 W o ist der König zu Hamath und der König zu Arpad und der König der Stadt Sepharvaim, Hena und Iwa?

Where the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'

14 U nd da Hiskia den Brief von den Boten empfangen und gelesen hatte, ging er hinauf in das Haus des HERRN und breitete ihn aus vor dem HERRN.

And Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and Hezekiah goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.

15 U nd Hiskia betete zum HERR und sprach:

And Hezekiah prayeth unto Jehovah, saying,

16 H ERR Zebaoth, du Gott Israels, der du allein über dem Cherubim sitzest, du bist allein Gott über alle Königreiche auf Erden, du hast Himmel und Erde gemacht.

`Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou God Himself -- Thyself alone -- to all kingdoms of the earth, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

17 H ERR neige deine Ohren und höre doch; HERR, tue deine Augen auf und siehe doch; höre doch alle die Worte Sanheribs, die er gesandt hat, zu schmähen den lebendigen Gott.

Incline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes and see; and hear Thou all the words of Sennacherib that he hath sent to reproach the living God.

18 W ahr ist es, HERR, die Könige von Assyrien haben wüst gemacht alle Königreiche samt ihren Landen

`Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste all the lands and their land,

19 u nd haben ihre Götter ins Feuer geworfen; denn sie waren nicht Götter, sondern Werk von Menschenhänden, Holz und Stein. Die sind vertilgt.

so as to put their gods into fire -- for they no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone -- and they destroy them.

20 N un aber, HERR, unser Gott, hilf uns von seiner Hand, auf daß alle Königreiche auf Erden erfahren, daß du der HERR seist allein.

And now, Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, and all kingdoms of the earth do know that Thou Jehovah, Thyself alone.'

21 D as sandte Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, zu Hiskia und ließ ihm sagen: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Was du mich gebeten hast des Königs Sanherib halben von Assyrien,

And Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur --

22 s o ist es das, was der HERR von ihm redet: Die Jungfrau Tochter Zion verachtet dich und spottet dein, und die Tochter Jerusalem schüttelt das Haupt dir nach.

this the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: Trampled on thee, laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion, Behind thee shaken the head hath the daughter of Jerusalem.

23 W en hast du geschmäht und gelästert? Über wen hast du die Stimme erhoben? Du hebst deine Augen empor wider den Heiligen in Israel.

Whom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up the voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes Against the Holy One of Israel.

24 D urch deine Knechte hast du den HERRN geschändet und sprichst: "Ich bin durch die Menge meiner Wagen heraufgezogen auf die Höhe der Berge, den innersten Libanon, und habe seine hohen Zedern abgehauen samt seinen auserwählten Tannen und bin bis zu seiner äußersten Höhe gekommen, an den Wald seines Baumgartens.

By the hand of thy servants Thou hast reviled the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of hills, The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the high place of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

25 I ch habe gegraben und getrunken die Wasser und werde mit meinen Fußsohlen austrocknen alle Flüsse Ägyptens."

I -- I have dug and drunk waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

26 H ast du aber nicht gehört, daß ich solches lange zuvor getan habe und von Anfang habe ich's bereitet? Jetzt aber habe ich's kommen lassen, daß feste Städte zerstört werden zu Steinhaufen

Hast thou not heard from afar? -- it I did, From days of old -- that I formed it. Now, I have brought it in, And it is to make desolate, Ruinous heaps -- fenced cities,

27 u nd ihre Einwohner schwach und zaghaft werden und mit Schanden bestehen und werden wie das Feldgras und wie das grüne Kraut, wie Gras auf den Dächern, welches verdorrt, ehe es denn reif wird.

And their inhabitants are feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up. They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn, before it hath risen up.

28 I ch kenne aber deine Wohnung, deinen Auszug und Einzug und dein Toben wider mich.

And thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thy anger towards Me.

29 W eil du denn wider mich tobst und dein Stolz herauf vor meine Ohren gekommen ist, will ich dir einen Ring an die Nase legen und ein Gebiß in dein Maul und will dich des Weges wieder heimführen, den du gekommen bist.

Because of thy anger towards Me, And thy noise -- it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And I have caused thee to turn back In the way in which thou camest.

30 D as sei dir aber ein Zeichen: Iß dies Jahr, was von selber wächst; das andere Jahr, was noch aus den Wurzeln wächst; im dritten Jahr säet und erntet, pflanzt Weinberge und esset ihre Früchte.

-- And this to thee the sign, Food of the year self-sown grain, And in the second year the spontaneous growth, And in the third year, sow ye and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

31 D enn die Erretteten vom Hause Juda und die übrigbleiben, werden noch wiederum unter sich wurzeln und über sich Frucht tragen.

And it hath continued -- the escaped Of the house of Judah that hath been left -- To take root beneath, And it hath made fruit upward.

32 D enn von Jerusalem werden noch ausgehen, die übriggeblieben sind, und die Erretteten von Berge Zion. Solches wird tun der Eifer des HERRN Zebaoth.

For from Jerusalem goeth forth a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion, The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts doth this.

33 D arum spricht der HERR also vom König von Assyrien: Er soll nicht kommen in diese Stadt und soll auch keinen Pfeil dahin schießen und mit keinem Schilde davor kommen und soll keinen Wall um sie schütten;

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it shield, Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

34 s ondern des Weges, den er gekommen ist, soll er wieder heimkehren, daß er in diese Stadt nicht komme, spricht der HERR.

In the way that he came, in it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, An affirmation of Jehovah,

35 D enn ich will diese Stadt schützen, daß ich ihr aushelfe um meinetwillen und um meines Dieners David willen.

And I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'

36 D a fuhr aus der Engel des HERRN und schlug im assyrischen Lager hundertfünfundachtzigtausend Mann. Und da sie sich des Morgens früh aufmachten, siehe, da lag's alles eitel tote Leichname.

And a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred and eighty and five thousand; and rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them dead corpses.

37 U nd der König von Assyrien, Sanherib, brach auf zog weg und kehrte wieder heim und blieb zu Ninive.

And journey, and go, and turn back doth Sennacherib king of Asshur, and dwelleth in Nineveh.

38 U nd es begab sich auch, da er anbetete im Hause Nisrochs, seines Gottes, erschlugen ihn seine Söhne Adrammelech und Sarezer mit dem Schwert, und sie flohen ins Land Ararat. Und sein Sohn Asar-Haddon ward König an seiner Statt.

And it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.
