1 U nd es begab sich, da Jesus alle diese Reden vollendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern:

And it came to pass, when Jesus finished all these words, he said to his disciples,

2 I hr wisset, daß nach zwei Tagen Ostern wird; und des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet werden, daß er gekreuzigt werde.

`Ye have known that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of Man is delivered up to be crucified.'

3 D a versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten im Volk in den Palast des Hohenpriesters, der da hieß Kaiphas,

Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, to the court of the chief priest who was called Caiaphas;

4 u nd hielten Rat, wie sie Jesus mit List griffen und töteten.

and they consulted together that they might take Jesus by guile, and kill,

5 S ie sprachen aber: Ja nicht auf das Fest, auf daß nicht ein Aufruhr werde im Volk!

and they said, `Not in the feast, that there may not be a tumult among the people.'

6 D a nun Jesus war zu Bethanien im Hause Simons, des Aussätzigen,

And Jesus having been in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 d a trat zu ihm ein Weib, das hatte ein Glas mit köstlichem Wasser und goß es auf sein Haupt, da er zu Tische saß.

there came to him a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, very precious, and she poured on his head as he is reclining (at meat).

8 D a das seine Jünger sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: Wozu diese Vergeudung?

And having seen, his disciples were much displeased, saying, `To what purpose this waste?

9 D ieses Wasser hätte mögen teuer verkauft und den Armen gegeben werden.

for this ointment could have been sold for much, and given to the poor.'

10 D a das Jesus merkte, sprach er zu ihnen: Was bekümmert ihr das Weib? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan.

And Jesus having known, said to them, `Why do ye give trouble to the woman? for a good work she wrought for me;

11 I hr habt allezeit Arme bei euch; mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit.

for the poor always ye have with you, and me ye have not always;

12 D aß sie dies Wasser hat auf meinen Leib gegossen, hat sie getan, daß sie mich zum Grabe bereite.

for she having put this ointment on my body -- for my burial she did.

13 W ahrlich ich sage euch: Wo dies Evangelium gepredigt wird in der ganzen Welt, da wird man auch sagen zu ihrem Gedächtnis, was sie getan hat.

Verily I say to you, Wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what this did shall also be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'

14 D a ging hin der Zwölf einer, mit Namen Judas Ischariot, zu den Hohenpriestern

Then one of the twelve, who is called Judas Iscariot, having gone unto the chief priests, said,

15 u nd sprach: Was wollt ihr mir geben? Ich will ihn euch verraten. Und sie boten ihm dreißig Silberlinge.

`What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him up to you?' and they weighed out to him thirty silverlings,

16 U nd von dem an suchte er Gelegenheit, daß er ihn verriete.

and from that time he was seeking a convenient season to deliver him up.

17 A ber am ersten Tag der süßen Brote traten die Jünger zu Jesus und sprachen zu ihm: Wo willst du, daß wir dir bereiten das Osterlamm zu essen?

And on the first of the unleavened food came the disciples near to Jesus, saying to him, `Where wilt thou we may prepare for thee to eat the passover?'

18 E r sprach: Gehet hin in die Stadt zu einem und sprecht der Meister läßt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist nahe; ich will bei dir Ostern halten mit meinen Jüngern.

and he said, `Go away to the city, unto such a one, and say to him, The Teacher saith, My time is nigh; near thee I keep the passover, with my disciples;'

19 U nd die Jünger taten wie ihnen Jesus befohlen hatte, und bereiteten das Osterlamm.

and the disciples did as Jesus appointed them, and prepared the passover.

20 U nd am Abend setzte er sich zu Tische mit den Zwölfen.

And evening having come, he was reclining (at meat) with the twelve,

21 U nd da sie aßen, sprach er: Wahrlich ich sage euch: Einer unter euch wird mich verraten.

and while they are eating, he said, `Verily I say to you, that one of you shall deliver me up.'

22 U nd sie wurden sehr betrübt und hoben an, ein jeglicher unter ihnen, und sagten zu ihm: HERR, bin ich's?

And being grieved exceedingly, they began to say to him, each of them, `Is it I, Sir?'

23 E r antwortete und sprach: Der mit der Hand mit mir in die Schüssel tauchte, der wird mich verraten.

And he answering said, `He who did dip with me the hand in the dish, he will deliver me up;

24 D es Menschen Sohn geht zwar dahin, wie von ihm geschrieben steht; doch weh dem Menschen, durch welchen des Menschen Sohn verraten wird! Es wäre ihm besser, daß er nie geboren wäre.

the Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up! good it were for him if that man had not been born.'

25 D a antwortete Judas, der ihn verriet, und sprach: Bin ich's Rabbi? Er sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es.

And Judas -- he who delivered him up -- answering said, `Is it I, Rabbi?' He saith to him, `Thou hast said.'

26 D a sie aber aßen, nahm Jesus das Brot, dankte und brach's und gab's den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmet, esset; das ist mein Leib.

And while they were eating, Jesus having taken the bread, and having blessed, did brake, and was giving to the disciples, and said, `Take, eat, this is my body;'

27 U nd er nahm den Kelch und dankte, gab ihnen den und sprach: Trinket alle daraus;

and having taken the cup, and having given thanks, he gave to them, saying, `Drink ye of it -- all;

28 d as ist mein Blut des neuen Testaments, welches vergossen wird für viele zur Vergebung der Sünden.

for this is my blood of the new covenant, that for many is being poured out -- to remission of sins;

29 I ch sage euch: Ich werde von nun an nicht mehr von diesen Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken bis an den Tag, da ich's neu trinken werde mit euch in meines Vaters Reich.

and I say to you, that I may not drink henceforth on this produce of the vine, till that day when I may drink it with you new in the reign of my Father.'

30 U nd da sie den Lobgesang gesprochen hatte, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg.

And having sung a hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives;

31 D a sprach Jesus zu ihnen: In dieser Nacht werdet ihr euch alle ärgern an mir. Denn es steht geschrieben: "Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden sich zerstreuen."

then saith Jesus to them, `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night; for it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad;

32 W enn ich aber auferstehe, will ich vor euch hingehen nach Galiläa.

but, after my having risen, I will go before you to Galilee.'

33 P etrus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn sich auch alle an dir ärgerten, so will ich doch mich nimmermehr ärgern.

And Peter answering said to him, `Even if all shall be stumbled at thee, I will never be stumbled.'

34 J esus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen.

Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that, this night, before cock-crowing, thrice thou wilt deny me.'

35 P etrus sprach zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müßte, so will ich dich nicht verleugnen. Desgleichen sagten auch alle Jünger.

Peter saith to him, `Even if it may be necessary for me to die with thee, I will not deny thee;' in like manner also said all the disciples.

36 D a kam Jesus mit ihnen zu einem Hofe, der hieß Gethsemane, und sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzet euch hier, bis daß ich dorthin gehe und bete.

Then come with them doth Jesus to a place called Gethsemane, and he saith to the disciples, `Sit ye here, till having gone away, I shall pray yonder.'

37 U nd nahm zu sich Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus und fing an zu trauern und zu zagen.

And having taken Peter, and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful, and to be very heavy;

38 D a sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod; bleibet hier und wachet mit mir!

then saith he to them, `Exceedingly sorrowful is my soul -- unto death; abide ye here, and watch with me.'

39 U nd ging hin ein wenig, fiel nieder auf sein Angesicht und betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's möglich, so gehe dieser Kelch von mir; doch nicht, wie ich will, sondern wie du willst!

And having gone forward a little, he fell on his face, praying, and saying, `My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou.'

40 U nd er kam zu seinen Jüngern und fand sie schlafend und sprach zu Petrus: Könnet ihr denn nicht eine Stunde mit mir wachen?

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and he saith to Peter, `So! ye were not able one hour to watch with me!

41 W achet und betet, daß ihr nicht in Anfechtung fallet! Der Geist ist willig; aber das Fleisch ist schwach.

watch, and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation: the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

42 Z um andernmal ging er wieder hin, betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's nicht möglich, daß dieser Kelch von mir gehe, ich trinke ihn denn, so geschehe dein Wille!

Again, a second time, having gone away, he prayed, saying, `My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from me except I drink it, Thy will be done;'

43 U nd er kam und fand sie abermals schlafend, und ihre Augen waren voll Schlafs.

and having come, he findeth them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

44 U nd er ließ sie und ging abermals hin und betete zum drittenmal und redete dieselben Worte.

And having left them, having gone away again, he prayed a third time, saying the same word;

45 D a kam er zu seinen Jüngern und sprach zu ihnen: Ach wollt ihr nur schlafen und ruhen? Siehe, die Stunde ist hier, daß des Menschen Sohn in der Sünder Hände überantwortet wird.

then cometh he unto his disciples, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest! lo, the hour hath come nigh, and the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of sinners.

46 S tehet auf, laßt uns gehen! Siehe, er ist da, der mich verrät!

Rise, let us go; lo, he hath come nigh who is delivering me up.'

47 U nd als er noch redete, siehe, da kam Judas, der Zwölf einer, und mit ihm eine große Schar, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten des Volks.

And while he is yet speaking, lo, Judas, one of the twelve did come, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 U nd der Verräter hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben und gesagt: Welchen ich küssen werde, der ist's; den greifet.

And he who did deliver him up did give them a sign, saying, `Whomsoever I will kiss, it is he: lay hold on him;'

49 U nd alsbald trat er zu Jesus und sprach: Gegrüßet seist du, Rabbi! und küßte ihn.

and immediately, having come to Jesus, he said, `Hail, Rabbi,' and kissed him;

50 J esus aber sprach zu ihm: Mein Freund, warum bist du gekommen? Da traten sie hinzu und legten die Hände an Jesus und griffen ihn.

and Jesus said to him, `Comrade, for what art thou present?' Then having come near, they laid hands on Jesus, and took hold on him.

51 U nd siehe, einer aus denen, die mit Jesus waren, reckte die Hand aus und zog sein Schwert aus und schlug des Hohenpriesters Knecht und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab.

And lo, one of those with Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, drew his sword, and having struck the servant of the chief priest, he took off his ear.

52 D a sprach Jesus zu ihm; Stecke dein Schwert an seinen Ort! denn wer das Schwert nimmt, der soll durchs Schwert umkommen.

Then saith Jesus to him, `Turn back thy sword to its place; for all who did take the sword, by the sword shall perish;

53 O der meinst du, daß ich nicht könnte meinen Vater bitten, daß er mir zuschickte mehr denn zwölf Legionen Engel?

dost thou think that I am not able now to call upon my Father, and He will place beside me more than twelve legions of messengers?

54 W ie würde aber die Schrift erfüllet? Es muß also gehen.

how then may the Writings be fulfilled, that thus it behoveth to happen?'

55 Z u der Stunde sprach Jesus zu den Scharen: Ihr seid ausgegangen wie zu einem Mörder, mit Schwertern und Stangen, mich zu fangen. Bin ich doch täglich gesessen bei euch und habe gelehrt im Tempel, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen.

In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, `As against a robber ye did come forth, with swords and sticks, to take me! daily with you I was sitting teaching in the temple, and ye did not lay hold on me;

56 A ber das ist alles geschehen, daß erfüllet würden die Schriften der Propheten. Da verließen ihn die Jünger und flohen.

but all this hath come to pass, that the Writings of the prophets may be fulfilled;' then all the disciples, having left him, fled.

57 D ie aber Jesus gegriffen hatten, führten ihn zu dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas, dahin die Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten sich versammelt hatten.

And those laying hold on Jesus led away unto Caiaphas the chief priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together,

58 P etrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne bis in den Palast des Hohenpriesters und ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Knechten, auf daß er sähe, wo es hinaus wollte.

and Peter was following him afar off, unto the court of the chief priest, and having gone in within, he was sitting with the officers, to see the end.

59 D ie Hohenpriester aber und die Ältesten und der ganze Rat suchten falsch Zeugnis gegen Jesus, auf daß sie ihn töteten,

And the chief priests, and the elders, and all the council, were seeking false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death,

60 u nd fanden keins. Und wiewohl viel falsche Zeugen herzutraten, fanden sie doch keins. Zuletzt traten herzu zwei falsche Zeugen

and they did not find; and many false witnesses having come near, they did not find; and at last two false witnesses having come near,

61 u nd sprachen: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes abbrechen und in drei Tagen ihn bauen.

said, `This one said, I am able to throw down the sanctuary of God, and after three days to build it.'

62 U nd der Hohepriester stand auf und sprach zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts zu dem, was diese wider dich zeugen?

And the chief priest having stood up, said to him, `Nothing thou dost answer! what do these witness against thee?

63 A ber Jesus schwieg still. Und der Hohepriester antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, daß du uns sagest, ob du seist Christus, der Sohn Gottes.

and Jesus was silent. And the chief priest answering said to him, `I adjure thee, by the living God, that thou mayest say to us, if thou art the Christ -- the Son of God.'

64 J esus sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es. Doch ich sage euch: Von nun an wird's geschehen, daß ihr werdet sehen des Menschen Sohn sitzen zur Rechten der Kraft und kommen in den Wolken des Himmels.

Jesus saith to him, `Thou hast said; nevertheless I say to you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds, of the heaven.'

65 D a zerriß der Hohepriester seine Kleider und sprach: Er hat Gott gelästert! Was bedürfen wir weiteres Zeugnis? Siehe, jetzt habt ihr seine Gotteslästerung gehört.

Then the chief priest rent his garments, saying, -- `He hath spoken evil; what need have we yet of witnesses? lo, now ye heard his evil speaking;

66 W as dünkt euch? Sie antworteten und sprachen: Er ist des Todes schuldig!

what think ye?' and they answering said, `He is worthy of death.'

67 D a spieen sie aus in sein Angesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten. Etliche aber schlugen ihn ins Angesicht

Then did they spit in his face and buffet him, and others did slap,

68 u nd sprachen: Weissage uns, Christe, wer ist's, der dich schlug?

saying, `Declare to us, O Christ, who he is that struck thee?'

69 P etrus aber saß draußen im Hof; und es trat zu ihm eine Magd und sprach: Und du warst auch mit dem Jesus aus Galiläa.

And Peter without was sitting in the court, and there came near to him a certain maid, saying, `And thou wast with Jesus of Galilee!'

70 E r leugnete aber vor ihnen allen und sprach: Ich weiß nicht, was du sagst.

And he denied before all, saying, `I have not known what thou sayest.'

71 A ls er aber zur Tür hinausging, sah ihn eine andere und sprach zu denen, die da waren: Dieser war auch mit dem Jesus von Nazareth.

And he having gone forth to the porch, another female saw him, and saith to those there, `And this one was with Jesus of Nazareth;'

72 U nd er leugnete abermals und schwur dazu: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht.

and again did he deny with an oath -- `I have not known the man.'

73 U nd über eine kleine Weile traten die hinzu, die dastanden, und sprachen zu Petrus: Wahrlich du bist auch einer von denen; denn deine Sprache verrät dich.

And after a little those standing near having come, said to Peter, `Truly thou also art of them, for even thy speech doth make thee manifest.'

74 D a hob er an sich zu verfluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht. Uns alsbald krähte der Hahn.

Then began he to anathematise, and to swear -- `I have not known the man;' and immediately did a cock crow,

75 D a dachte Petrus an die Worte Jesu, da er zu ihm sagte: "Ehe der Hahn krähen wird, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen", und ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich.

and Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, he having said to him -- `Before cock-crowing, thrice thou wilt deny me;' and having gone without, he did weep bitterly.
