1 D ies ist das Wort, so vom HERRN geschah zu Jeremia, da der König Zedekia zu ihm sandte Pashur, den Sohn Malchias, und Zephanja, den Sohn Maasejas, den Priester, und ließ ihm sagen:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, in the king Zedekiah's sending unto him Pashhur son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,

2 F rage doch den HERRN für uns. Denn Nebukadnezar, der König zu Babel, streitet wider uns; daß der HERR doch mit uns tun wolle nach allen seinen Wundern, damit er von uns abzöge.

`Inquire, we pray thee, for us at Jehovah, for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath fought against us; perhaps Jehovah doth deal with us according to all His wonders, and doth cause him to go up from off us.'

3 J eremia sprach zu ihnen: So saget Zedekia:

And Jeremiah saith unto them, `Thus do ye say unto Zedekiah,

4 D as spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich will die Waffen zurückwenden, die ihr in euren Händen habt, womit ihr streitet wider den König zu Babel und wider die Chaldäer, welche euch draußen an der Mauer belagert haben; und will sie zuhauf sammeln mitten in dieser Stadt.

Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel: Lo, I am turning round the weapons of battle That in your hand, With which ye do fight the king of Babylon, And the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against you, At the outside of the wall, And I have gathered them into the midst of this city,

5 U nd ich will wider euch streiten mit ausgereckter Hand, mit starkem Arm, mit Zorn, Grimm und großer Ungnade.

And I -- I have fought against you, With a stretched-out hand, and with a strong arm, And in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath,

6 U nd ich will die Bürger dieser Stadt schlagen, die Menschen und das Vieh, daß sie sterben sollen durch eine große Pestilenz.

And I have smitten the inhabitants of this city, Both man and beast, By a great pestilence do they die.

7 U nd darnach, spricht der HERR, will ich Zedekia, den König Juda's, samt seinen Knechten und dem Volk, das in dieser Stadt vor der Pestilenz, vor Schwert und Hunger übrigbleiben wird, geben in die Hände Nebukadnezars, des Königs zu Babel, und in die Hände ihrer Feinde, und in die Hände derer, die ihnen nach dem Leben stehen, daß er sie mit der Schärfe des Schwerts also schlage, daß kein Schonen noch Gnade noch Barmherzigkeit da sei.

And after this -- an affirmation of Jehovah, I give Zedekiah king of Judah, And his servants, and the people, And those left in this city, From the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, Into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of their enemies, And into the hand of those seeking their life, And he hath smitten them by the mouth of the sword, He hath no pity on them, Nor doth he spare, nor hath he mercy.

8 U nd sage diesem Volk: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich lege euch vor den Weg zum Leben und den Weg zum Tode.

And unto this people thou dost say, Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am setting before you the way of life, And the way of death!

9 W er in dieser Stadt bleibt, der wird sterben müssen durch Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz; wer aber sich hinausbegibt zu den Chaldäern, die euch belagern, der soll lebendig bleiben und soll sein Leben als eine Ausbeute behalten.

Whoso is abiding in this city -- dieth, By sword, and by famine, and by pestilence, And whoso is going forth, And hath fallen unto the Chaldeans, Who are laying siege against you -- liveth, And his life hath been to him for a spoil.

10 D enn ich habe mein Angesicht über diese Stadt gerichtet zum Unglück und zu keinem Guten, spricht der HERR. Sie soll dem König zu Babel übergeben werden, daß er sie mit Feuer verbrenne.

For I have set My face against this city for evil, And not for good -- an affirmation of Jehovah. Into the hand of the king of Babylon it is given, And he hath burned it with fire.

11 U nd höret des HERRN Wort, ihr vom Hause des Königs in Juda!

And as to the house of the king of Judah, Hear ye a word of Jehovah;

12 D u Haus David, so spricht der Herr: Haltet des Morgens Gericht und errettet die Beraubten aus des Frevlers Hand, auf daß mein Grimm nicht ausfahre wie ein Feuer und brenne also, das niemand löschen könne, um eures bösen Wesens willen.

O house of David, thus said Jehovah: Decide ye judgment at morning, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, Lest My fury go forth as fire, And hath burned, and none is quenching, Because of the evil of your doings.

13 S iehe, spricht der HERR, ich will an dich, die du wohnst im Grunde, auf dem Felsen der Ebene und sprichst: Wer will uns überfallen oder in unsre Feste kommen?

Lo, I against thee -- an affirmation of Jehovah, O inhabitant of the valley, rock of the plain, Who are saying, Who cometh down against us? And who cometh into our habitations?

14 I ch will euch heimsuchen, spricht der HERR, nach der Frucht eures Tuns; ich will ein Feuer anzünden in ihrem Walde, das soll alles umher verzehren.

And I have laid a charge against you, According to the fruit of your doings, An affirmation of Jehovah, And I have kindled a fire in its forest, And it hath consumed -- all its suburbs!
