1 U nd Gott sprach zu Jakob: Mache dich auf und ziehe gen Beth-El und wohne daselbst und mache daselbst einen Altar dem Gott, der dir erschien, da du flohest vor deinem Bruder Esau.

And God saith unto Jacob, `Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.'

2 D a sprach Jakob zu seinem Hause und zu allen, die mit ihm waren: Tut von euch fremde Götter, so unter euch sind, und reinigt euch und ändert eure Kleider

And Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who with him, `Turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments;

3 u nd laßt uns auf sein und gen Beth-El ziehen, daß ich daselbst einen Altar mache dem Gott, der mich erhört hat zur Zeit meiner Trübsal und ist mit mir gewesen auf dem Wege, den ich gezogen bin.

and we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.'

4 D a gaben sie ihm alle fremden Götter, die unter ihren Händen waren, und ihre Ohrenspangen; und er vergrub sie unter einer Eiche, die neben Sichem stand.

And they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that in their hand, and the rings that in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which by Shechem;

5 U nd sie zogen aus. Und es kam die Furcht Gottes über die Städte, die um sie her lagen, daß sie den Söhnen Jakobs nicht nachjagten.

and they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob.

6 A lso kam Jakob gen Lus im Lande Kanaan, das da Beth-El heißt, samt all dem Volk, das mit ihm war,

And Jacob cometh in to Luz which in the land of Canaan (it Bethel), he and all the people who with him,

7 u nd baute daselbst einen Altar und hieß die Stätte El-Beth-El, darum daß ihm daselbst Gott offenbart war, da er floh vor seinem Bruder.

and he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother.

8 D a starb Debora, der Rebekka Amme, und ward begraben unterhalb Beth-El unter der Eiche; die ward genannt die Klageeiche.

And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name `Oak of weeping.'

9 U nd Gott erschien Jakob abermals, nachdem er aus Mesopotamien gekommen war, und segnete ihn

And God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him;

10 u nd sprach zu ihm: Du heißt Jakob; aber du sollst nicht mehr Jakob heißen, sondern Israel sollst du heißen. Und also heißt man ihn Israel.

and God saith to him, `Thy name Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;' and He calleth his name Israel.

11 U nd Gott sprach zu ihm: Ich bin der allmächtige Gott; sei fruchtbar und mehre dich; Völker und Völkerhaufen sollen von dir kommen, und Könige sollen aus deinen Lenden kommen;

And God saith to him, `I God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out;

12 u nd das Land, das ich Abraham und Isaak gegeben habe, will ich dir geben und will's deinem Samen nach dir geben.

and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac -- to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.'

13 A lso fuhr Gott auf von ihm von dem Ort, da er mit ihm geredet hatte.

And God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him.

14 J akob aber richtete ein steinernes Mal auf an dem Ort, da er mit ihm geredet hatte, und goß ein Trankopfer darauf und begoß es mit Öl.

And Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil;

15 U nd Jakob hieß den Ort, da Gott mit ihm geredet hatte, Beth-El.

and Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel.

16 U nd sie zogen von Beth-El. Und da noch ein Feld Weges war von Ephrath, da gebar Rahel.

And they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing;

17 U nd es kam sie hart an über der Geburt. Da aber die Geburt so schwer ward, sprach die Wehmutter zu ihr: Fürchte dich nicht, denn diesen Sohn wirst du auch haben.

and it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, `Fear not, for this also a son for thee.'

18 D a ihr aber die Seele ausging, daß sie sterben mußte, hieß sie ihn Ben-Oni; aber sein Vater hieß ihn Ben-Jamin.

And it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin;

19 A lso starb Rahel und ward begraben an dem Wege gen Ephrath, das nun heißt Bethlehem.

and Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which Bethlehem,

20 U nd Jakob richtete ein Mal auf über ihrem Grabe; dasselbe ist das Grabmal Rahels bis auf diesen Tag.

and Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which the standing pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

21 U nd Israel zog aus und richtete seine Hütte auf jenseit des Turms Eder.

And Israel journeyeth, and stretcheth out his tent beyond the tower of Edar;

22 U nd es begab sich, da Israel im Lande wohnte, ging Ruben hin und schlief bei Bilha, seines Vaters Kebsweib; und das kam vor Israel. Es hatte aber Jakob zwölf Söhne.

and it cometh to pass in Israel's dwelling in that land, that Reuben goeth, and lieth with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heareth.

23 D ie Söhne Leas waren diese: Ruben, der erstgeborene Sohn Jakobs, Simeon, Levi, Juda, Isaschar und Sebulon;

And the sons of Jacob are twelve. Sons of Leah: Jacob's first-born Reuben, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.

24 d ie Söhne Rahel waren: Joseph und Benjamin;

Sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

25 d ie Söhne Bilhas, Rahels Magd: Dan und Naphthali;

And sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant: Dan and Naphtali.

26 d ie Söhne Silpas, Leas Magd: Gad und Asser. Das sind die Söhne Jakobs, die ihm geboren sind in Mesopotamien.

And sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant: Gad and Asher. These sons of Jacob, who have been born to him in Padan-Aram.

27 U nd Jakob kam zu seinem Vater Isaak gen Mamre zu Kirjat-Arba, das da heißt Hebron, darin Abraham und Isaak Fremdlinge gewesen sind.

And Jacob cometh unto Isaac his father, at Mamre, the city of Arba (which Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac have sojourned.

28 U nd Isaak ward hundertundachtzig Jahre alt

And the days of Isaac are a hundred and eighty years,

29 u nd nahm ab und starb und ward versammelt zu seinem Volk, alt und des Lebens satt. Und seine Söhne Esau und Jakob begruben ihn.

and Isaac expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people, aged and satisfied with days; and bury him do Esau and Jacob his sons.
