1 D ies ist das Wort, welches geschah zu Jeremia vom HERRN, und sprach:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 T ritt ins Tor im Hause des HERR und predige daselbst dies Wort und sprich: Höret des HERRN Wort, ihr alle von Juda, die ihr zu diesen Toren eingehet, den HERRN anzubeten!

Stand in the gate of the house of Jehovah, and thou hast proclaimed there this word, and hast said, Hear a word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, who are coming in at these gates, to bow before Jehovah:

3 S o spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Bessert euer Leben und Wesen, so will ich bei euch wohnen an diesem Ort.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Amend your ways, and your doings, And I cause you to dwell in this place.

4 V erlaßt euch nicht auf die Lügen, wenn sie sagen: Hier ist des HERRN Tempel, hier ist des HERRN Tempel, hier ist des HERRN Tempel!

Do not trust for yourselves Unto the words of falsehood, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, The temple of Jehovah they!

5 s ondern bessert euer Leben und Wesen, daß ihr recht tut einer gegen den andern

For, if ye do thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, If ye do judgment thoroughly Between a man and his neighbour,

6 u nd den Fremdlingen, Waisen und Witwen keine Gewalt tut und nicht unschuldiges Blut vergießt an diesem Ort, und folgt nicht nach andern Göttern zu eurem eigenen Schaden:

Sojourner, fatherless, and widow, ye oppress not, And innocent blood do not shed in this place, And after other gods do not walk, for evil to yourselves,

7 s o will ich immer und ewiglich bei euch wohnen an diesem Ort, in dem Lande, das ich euren Vätern gegeben habe.

Then I have caused you to dwell in this place, In the land that I gave to your fathers, From age even unto age.

8 A ber nun verlasset ihr euch auf Lügen, die nichts nütze sind.

Lo, ye are trusting for yourselves On the words of falsehood, so as not to profit.

9 D aneben seid ihr Diebe, Mörder, Ehebrecher und Meineidige und räuchert dem Baal und folgt fremden Göttern nach, die ihr nicht kennt.

Stealing, murdering, and committing adultery, And swearing to falsehood, and giving perfume to Baal, And going after other gods whom ye knew not.

10 D arnach kommt ihr dann und tretet vor mich in diesem Hause, das nach meinem Namen genannt ist, und sprecht: Es hat keine Not mit uns, weil wir solche Greuel tun.

And ye have come in and stood before Me, In this house on which My name is called, And have said, `We have been delivered,' In order to do all these abominations.

11 H altet ihr denn dies Haus, das nach meinem Namen genannt ist, für eine Mördergrube? Siehe, ich sehe es wohl, spricht der HERR.

A den of burglars hath this house, On which My name is called, been in your eyes? Even I, lo, I have seen, an affirmation of Jehovah.

12 G ehet hin an meinen Ort zu Silo, da vormals mein Name gewohnt hat, und schauet, was ich daselbst getan habe um der Bosheit willen meines Volkes Israel.

But go ye, I pray you, Unto My place that in Shiloh, Where I caused My name to dwell at first, And see that which I have done to it, For the wickedness of My people Israel.

13 W eil ihr denn alle solche Stücke treibt, spricht der HERR, und ich stets euch predigen lasse, und ihr wollt nicht hören, ich rufe euch, und ihr wollt nicht antworten:

And now, because of your doing all these works, An affirmation of Jehovah, And I speak unto you, rising early and speaking, And ye have not hearkened, And I call you, and ye have not answered,

14 s o will ich dem Hause, das nach meinem Namen genannt ist, darauf ihr euch verlaßt, und den Ort, den ich euren Vätern gegeben habe, eben tun, wie ich zu Silo getan habe,

I also to the house on which My name is called, In which ye are trusting, And to the place that I gave to you, and to your fathers, Have done, as I have done to Shiloh.

15 u nd will euch von meinem Angesicht wegwerfen, wie ich weggeworfen habe alle eure Brüder, den ganzen Samen Ephraims.

And I have cast you from before My face, As I have cast out all your brethren, The whole seed of Ephraim.

16 U nd du sollst für dies Volk nicht bitten und sollst für sie keine Klage noch Gebet vorbringen, auch nicht sie vertreten vor mir; denn ich will dich nicht hören.

And thou dost not pray for this people, Nor lift up for them crying and prayer, Nor intercede with Me, for I hear thee not.

17 D enn siehst du nicht, was sie tun in den Städten Juda's und auf den Gassen zu Jerusalem?

Art thou not seeing what they are doing In cities of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem?

18 D ie Kinder lesen Holz, so zünden die Väter das Feuer an, und die Weiber kneten den Teig, daß sie der Himmelskönigin Kuchen backen, und geben Trankopfer den fremden Göttern, daß sie mir Verdruß tun.

The sons are gathering wood, And the fathers are causing the fire to burn, And the women are kneading dough, To make cakes to the queen of the heavens, And to pour out libations to other gods, So as to provoke Me to anger.

19 A ber sie sollen nicht mir damit, spricht der HERR, sondern sich selbst Verdruß tun und müssen zu Schanden werden.

Me are they provoking to anger? an affirmation of Jehovah, Is it not themselves, For the shame of their own faces?

20 D arum spricht der HERR HERR: Siehe, mein Zorn und mein Grimm ist ausgeschüttet über diesen Ort, über Menschen und Vieh, über Bäume auf dem Felde und über die Früchte des Landes; und der soll brennen, daß niemand löschen kann.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah, Lo, Mine anger and My fury is poured out on this place, On man, and beast, and on tree of the field, And on fruit of the ground, And it hath burned, and it is not quenched.

21 S o spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Tut eure Brandopfer und anderen Opfer zuhauf und esset Fleisch.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Your burnt-offerings add to your sacrifices, And eat ye flesh.

22 D enn ich habe euren Vätern des Tages, da ich sie aus Ägyptenland führte, weder gesagt noch geboten von Brandopfer und anderen Opfern;

For I did not speak with your fathers, Nor did I command them in the day of My bringing them out of the land of Egypt, Concerning the matters of burnt-offering and sacrifice,

23 s ondern dies gebot ich ihnen und sprach: Gehorchet meinem Wort, so will ich euer Gott sein, und ihr sollt mein Volk sein; und wandelt auf allen Wegen, die ich euch gebiete, auf daß es euch wohl gehe.

But this thing I commanded them, saying: Hearken to My voice, And I have been to you for God, And ye -- ye are to Me for a people, And have walked in all the way that I command you, So that it is well for you.

24 A ber sie wollen nicht hören noch ihre Ohren zuneigen, sondern wandelten nach ihrem eigenen Rat und nach ihres bösen Herzens Gedünken und gingen hinter sich und nicht vor sich.

And they have not hearkened, nor inclined their ear, And they walk in the counsels, In the stubbornness, of their evil heart, And are for backward, and not for forward.

25 J a, von dem Tage an, da ich eure Väter aus Ägyptenland geführt habe, bis auf diesen Tag habe ich stets zu euch gesandt alle meine Knechte, die Propheten.

Even from the day when your fathers Went out of the land of Egypt till this day, I send to you all my servants the prophets, Daily rising early and sending,

26 A ber sie wollen mich nicht hören noch ihre Ohren neigen, sondern waren halsstarrig und machten's ärger denn ihre Väter.

And they have not hearkened unto Me, Nor inclined their ear, and harden their neck, They have done evil above their fathers.

27 U nd wenn du ihnen dies alles schon sagst, so werden sie dich doch nicht hören; rufst du ihnen, so werden sie dir nicht antworten.

And thou hast spoken unto them all these words, And they do not hearken to thee, And thou hast called unto them, And they do not answer thee.

28 D arum sprich zu ihnen: Dies ist das Volk, das den HERRN, seinen Gott, nicht hören noch sich bessern will. Der Glaube ist untergegangen und ausgerottet von ihrem Munde.

And thou hast said unto them: This the nation that hath not hearkened, To the voice of Jehovah its God, Nor have they accepted instruction, Perished hath stedfastness, Yea, it hath been cut off from their mouth.

29 S chneide deine Haare ab und wirf sie von dir und wehklage auf den Höhen; denn der HERR hat dies Geschlecht, über das er zornig ist, verworfen und verstoßen.

Cut off thy crown, and cast away, And lift up on high places lamentation, For Jehovah hath rejected, And He leaveth the generation of His wrath.

30 D enn die Kinder Juda tun übel vor meinen Augen, spricht der HERR. Sie setzen ihre Greuel in das Haus, das nach meinem Namen genannt ist, daß sie es verunreinigen,

For the sons of Judah Have done the evil thing in Mine eyes, An affirmation of Jehovah, They have set their abominations in the house On which My name is called -- to defile it,

31 u nd bauen die Altäre des Thopheth im Tal Ben-Hinnom, daß sie ihre Söhne und Töchter verbrennen, was ich nie geboten noch in den Sinn genommen habe.

And have built the high places of Tophet, That in the valley of the son of Hinnom, To burn their sons and their daughters with fire, Which I did not command, Nor did it come up on My heart.

32 D arum siehe, es kommt die Zeit, spricht der HERR, daß man's nicht mehr heißen soll Thopheth und das Tal Ben-Hinnom, sondern Würgetal; und man wird im Thopheth müssen begraben, weil sonst kein Raum mehr sein wird.

Therefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it is not said any more, `The Tophet,' And `Valley of the son of Hinnom,' But `Valley of the slaughter,' And they have buried in Tophet -- without place.

33 U nd die Leichname dieses Volkes sollen den Vögeln des Himmels und den Tieren auf Erden zur Speise werden, davon sie niemand scheuchen wird.

And the carcase of this people hath been for food To a fowl of the heavens, and to a beast of the earth, And there is none troubling.

34 U nd ich will in den Städten Juda's und auf den Gassen zu Jerusalem wegnehmen das Geschrei der Freude und Wonne und die Stimme des Bräutigams und der Braut; denn das Land soll wüst sein.

And I have caused to cease from cities of Judah, And from streets of Jerusalem, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, Voice of bridegroom, and voice of bride, For the land doth become a desolation!
