1 J oseph ward hinab nach Ägypten geführt; und Potiphar, ein ägyptischer Mann, des Pharao Kämmerer und Hauptmann, kaufte ihn von den Ismaeliten, die ihn hinabbrachten.

And Joseph hath been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh, head of the executioners, an Egyptian man, buyeth him out of the hands of the Ishmaelites who have brought him thither.

2 U nd der HERR war mit Joseph, daß er ein glücklicher Mann ward; und er war in seines Herrn, des Ägypters, Hause.

And Jehovah is with Joseph, and he is a prosperous man, and he is in the house of his lord the Egyptian,

3 U nd sein Herr sah, daß der HERR mit ihm war; denn alles, was er tat, dazu gab der HERR Glück durch ihn,

and his lord seeth that Jehovah is with him, and all that he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper in his hand,

4 A lso daß er Gnade fand vor seinem Herrn und sein Diener ward. Der setzte ihn über sein Haus, und alles, was er hatte, tat er unter seine Hände.

and Joseph findeth grace in his eyes and serveth him, and he appointeth him over his house, and all that he hath he hath given into his hand.

5 U nd von der Zeit an, da er ihn über sein Haus und alle seine Güter gesetzt hatte, segnete der HERR des Ägypters Haus um Josephs willen; und war eitel Segen des HERRN in allem, was er hatte, zu Hause und auf dem Felde.

And it cometh to pass from the time that he hath appointed him over his house, and over all that he hath, that Jehovah blesseth the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake, and the blessing of Jehovah is on all that he hath, in the house, and in the field;

6 D arum ließ er alles unter Josephs Händen, was er hatte, und nahm sich keines Dinges an, solange er ihn hatte, nur daß er aß und trank. Und Joseph war schön und hübsch von Angesicht.

and he leaveth all that he hath in the hand of Joseph, and he hath not known anything that he hath, except the bread which he is eating. And Joseph is of a fair form, and of a fair appearance.

7 U nd es begab sich nach dieser Geschichte, daß seines Herrn Weib ihre Augen auf Joseph warf und sprach: Schlafe bei mir!

And it cometh to pass after these things, that his lord's wife lifteth up her eyes unto Joseph, and saith, `Lie with me;'

8 E r weigerte sich aber und sprach zu ihr: Siehe, mein Herr nimmt sich keines Dinges an vor mir, was im Hause ist, und alles, was er hat, das hat er unter meine Hände getan,

and he refuseth, and saith unto his lord's wife, `Lo, my lord hath not known what with me in the house, and all that he hath he hath given into my hand;

9 u nd hat nichts so Großes in dem Hause, das er mir verhohlen habe, außer dir, indem du sein Weib bist. Wie sollte ich denn nun ein solch groß Übel tun und wider Gott sündigen?

none is greater in this house than I, and he hath not withheld from me anything, except thee, because thou his wife; and how shall I do this great evil? -- then have I sinned against God.'

10 U nd sie trieb solche Worte gegen Joseph täglich. Aber er gehorchte ihr nicht, daß er nahe bei ihr schliefe noch um sie wäre.

And it cometh to pass at her speaking unto Joseph day day, that he hath not hearkened unto her, to lie near her, to be with her;

11 E s begab sich eines Tages, daß Joseph in das Haus ging, sein Geschäft zu tun, und war kein Mensch vom Gesinde des Hauses dabei.

and it cometh to pass about this day, that he goeth into the house to do his work, and there is none of the men of the house there in the house,

12 U nd sie erwischte ihn bei seinem Kleid und sprach: Schlafe bei mir! Aber er ließ das Kleid in ihrer Hand und floh und lief zum Hause hinaus.

and she catcheth him by his garment, saying, `Lie with me;' and he leaveth his garment in her hand, and fleeth, and goeth without.

13 D a sie nun sah, daß er sein Kleid in ihrer Hand ließ und hinaus entfloh,

And it cometh to pass when she seeth that he hath left his garment in her hand, and fleeth without,

14 r ief sie das Gesinde im Hause und sprach zu ihnen: Sehet, er hat uns den hebräischen Mann hereingebracht, daß er seinen Mutwillen mit uns treibe. Er kam zu mir herein und wollte bei mir schlafen; ich rief aber mit lauter Stimme.

that she calleth for the men of her house, and speaketh to them, saying, `See, he hath brought in to us a man, a Hebrew, to play with us; he hath come in unto me, to lie with me, and I call with a loud voice,

15 U nd da er hörte, daß ich ein Geschrei machte und rief, da ließ er sein Kleid bei mir und lief hinaus.

and it cometh to pass, when he heareth that I have lifted up my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth, and goeth without.'

16 U nd sie legte sein Kleid neben sich, bis der Herr heimkam,

And she placeth his garment near her, until the coming in of his lord unto his house.

17 u nd sagte zu ihm ebendieselben Worte und sprach: Der hebräische Knecht, den du uns hereingebracht hast, kam zu mir herein und wollte seinen Mutwillen mit mir treiben.

And she speaketh unto him according to these words, saying, `The Hebrew servant whom thou hast brought unto us, hath come in unto me to play with me;

18 D a ich aber ein Geschrei machte und rief, da ließ er sein Kleid bei mir und floh hinaus.

and it cometh to pass, when I lift my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth without.'

19 A ls sein Herr hörte die Rede seines Weibes, die sie ihm sagte und sprach: Also hat mir dein Knecht getan, ward er sehr zornig.

And it cometh to pass when his lord heareth the words of his wife, which she hath spoken unto him, saying, `According to these things hath thy servant done to me,' that his anger burneth;

20 D a nahm ihn sein Herr und legte ihn ins Gefängnis, darin des Königs Gefangene lagen; und er lag allda im Gefängnis.

and Joseph's lord taketh him, and putteth him unto the round-house, a place where the king's prisoners bound; and he is there in the round-house.

21 A ber der HERR war mit ihm und neigte seine Huld zu ihm und ließ ihn Gnade finden vor dem Amtmann über das Gefängnis,

And Jehovah is with Joseph, and stretcheth out kindness unto him, and putteth his grace in the eyes of the chief of the round-house;

22 d aß er ihm unter seine Hand befahl alle Gefangenen im Gefängnis, auf daß alles, was da geschah, durch ihn geschehen mußte.

and the chief of the round-house giveth into the hand of Joseph all the prisoners who in the round-house, and of all that they are doing there, he hath been doer;

23 D enn der Amtmann des Gefängnisses nahm sich keines Dinges an; denn der HERR war mit Joseph, und was er tat, dazu gab der HERR Glück.

the chief of the round-house seeth not anything under his hand, because Jehovah with him, and that which he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper.
