1 D a aber der HERR wollte Elia im Wetter gen Himmel holen, gingen Elia und Elisa von Gilgal.

And it cometh to pass, at Jehovah's taking up Elijah in a whirlwind to the heavens, that Elijah goeth, and Elisha, from Gilgal,

2 U nd Elia sprach zu Elisa: Bleib doch hier; denn der HERR hat mich gen Beth-El gesandt. Elisa aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt und deine Seele, ich verlasse dich nicht. Und da sie hinab gen Beth-El kamen,

and Elijah saith unto Elisha, `Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me unto Beth-El;' and Elisha saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go down to Beth-El.

3 g ingen der Propheten Kinder, die zu Beth-El waren, heraus zu Elisa und sprachen zu ihm: Weißt du auch, daß der HERR wird deinen Herrn heute von deinen Häupten nehmen? Er aber sprach: Ich weiß es auch wohl; schweigt nur still.

And sons of the prophets who in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, `I also have known -- keep silent.'

4 U nd Elia sprach zu ihm: Elisa, bleib doch hier; denn der HERR hat mich gen Jericho gesandt. Er aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt und deine Seele, ich verlasse dich nicht. Und da sie gen Jericho kamen,

And Elijah saith to him, `Elisha, abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to Jericho;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they come in to Jericho.

5 t raten der Propheten Kinder, die zu Jericho waren, zu Elisa und sprachen zu ihm: Weißt du auch, daß der HERR wird deinen Herrn heute von deinen Häupten nehmen? Er aber sprach: Ich weiß es auch wohl; schweigt nur still.

And sons of the prophets who in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, `I also have known -- keep silent.'

6 U nd Elia sprach zu ihm: Bleib doch hier; denn der HERR hat mich gesandt an den Jordan. Er aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt und deine Seele, ich verlasse dich nicht. Und sie gingen beide miteinander.

And Elijah saith to him, `Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to the Jordan;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go on both of them,

7 A ber fünfzig Männer unter der Propheten Kindern gingen hin und traten gegenüber von ferne; aber die beiden standen am Jordan.

-- and fifty men of the sons of the prophets have gone on, and stand over-against afar off -- and both of them have stood by the Jordan.

8 D a nahm Elia seinen Mantel und wickelte ihn zusammen und schlug ins Wasser; das teilte sich auf beiden Seiten, daß die beiden trocken hindurchgingen.

And Elijah taketh his robe, and wrappeth together, and smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and they pass over both of them on dry land.

9 U nd da sie hinüberkamen, sprach Elia zu Elisa: Bitte, was ich dir tun soll, ehe ich von dir genommen werde. Elisa sprach: Daß mir werde ein zwiefältig Teil von deinem Geiste.

And it cometh to pass, at their passing over, that Elijah hath said unto Elisha, `Ask, what do I do for thee before I am taken from thee?' and Elisha saith, `Then let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit unto me;'

10 E r sprach: Du hast ein Hartes gebeten. Doch, so du mich sehen wirst, wenn ich von dir genommen werde, so wird's ja sein; wo nicht, so wird's nicht sein.

and he saith, `Thou hast asked a hard thing; if thou dost see me taken from thee, it is to thee so; and if not, it is not.'

11 U nd da sie miteinander gingen und redeten, siehe, da kam ein feuriger Wagen mit feurigen Rossen, die schieden die beiden voneinander; und Elia fuhr also im Wetter gen Himmel.

And it cometh to pass, they are going, going on and speaking, and lo, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and they separate between them both, and Elijah goeth up in a whirlwind, to the heavens.

12 E lisa aber sah es und schrie: Vater, mein Vater, Wagen Israels und seine Reiter! und sah ihn nicht mehr. Und er faßte sein Kleider und zerriß sie in zwei Stücke

And Elisha is seeing, and he is crying, `My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen;' and he hath not seen him again; and he taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them into two pieces.

13 u nd hob auf den Mantel Elia's, der ihm entfallen war, und kehrte um und trat an das Ufer des Jordans

And he taketh up the robe of Elijah, that fell from off him, and turneth back and standeth on the edge of the Jordan,

14 u nd nahm den Mantel Elia's, der ihm entfallen war, und schlug ins Wasser und sprach: Wo ist nun der HERR, der Gott Elia's? und schlug ins Wasser; da teilte sich's auf beide Seiten, und Elisa ging hindurch.

and he taketh the robe of Elijah that fell from off him, and smiteth the waters, and saith, `Where Jehovah, God of Elijah -- even He?' and he smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and Elisha passeth over.

15 U nd da ihn sahen der Propheten Kinder, die gegenüber zu Jericho waren, sprachen sie: Der Geist Elia's ruht auf Elisa; und gingen ihm entgegen und fielen vor ihm nieder zur Erde

And they see him -- the sons of the prophets who in Jericho -- over-against, and they say, `Rested hath the spirit of Elijah on Elisha;' and they come to meet him, and bow themselves to him to the earth,

16 u nd sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, es sind unter deinen Knechten fünfzig Männer, starke leute, die laß gehen und deinen Herrn suchen; vielleicht hat ihn der Geist des HERRN genommen und irgend auf einen Berg oder irgend in ein Tal geworfen. Er aber sprach: Laßt ihn gehen!

and say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour: let them go, we pray thee, and they seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Jehovah hath taken him up, and doth cast him on one of the hills, or into one of the valleys;' and he saith, `Ye do not send.'

17 A ber sie nötigten ihn, bis daß er nachgab und sprach: Laßt hingehen! Und sie sandte hin fünfzig Männer und suchten ihn drei Tage; aber sie fanden ihn nicht.

And they press upon him, till he is ashamed, and he saith, `Send ye;' and they send fifty men, and they seek three days, and have not found him;

18 U nd kamen wieder zu ihm, da er noch zu Jericho war; und er sprach zu ihnen: Sagte ich euch nicht, ihr solltet nicht hingehen?

and they turn back unto him -- and he is abiding in Jericho -- and he saith unto them, `Did I not say unto you, Do not go?'

19 U nd die Männer der Stadt sprachen zu Elisa: Siehe, es ist gut wohnen in dieser Stadt, wie mein Herr sieht; aber es ist böses Wasser und das Land unfruchtbar.

And the men of the city say unto Elisha, `Lo, we pray thee, the site of the city good, as my lord seeth, and the waters bad, and the earth sterile.'

20 E r sprach: Bringet mir her eine neue Schale und tut Salz darein! Und sie brachten's ihm.

And he saith, `Bring to me a new dish, and place there salt;' and they bring unto him,

21 D a ging er hinaus zu der Wasserquelle und warf das Salz hinein und sprach: So spricht der HERR: Ich habe dies Wasser gesund gemacht; es soll hinfort kein Tod noch Unfruchtbarkeit daher kommen.

and he goeth out unto the source of the waters, and casteth there salt, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, I have given healing to these waters; there is not thence any more death and sterility.'

22 A lso ward das Wasser gesund bis auf diesen Tag nach dem Wort Elisas, das er redete.

And the waters are healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha, that he spake.

23 U nd er ging hinauf gen Beth-El. Und als er auf dem Wege hinanging, kamen kleine Knaben zur Stadt heraus und spotteten sein und sprachen zu ihm: Kahlkopf, komm herauf! Kahlkopf, komm herauf!

And he goeth up thence to Beth-El, and he is going up in the way, and little youths have come out from the city, and scoff at him, and say to him, `Go up, bald-head! go up, bald-head!'

24 U nd er wandte sich um; und da er sie sah, fluchte er ihnen im Namen des HERRN. Da kamen zwei Bären aus dem Walde und zerrissen der Kinder zweiundvierzig.

And he looketh behind him, and seeth them, and declareth them vile in the name of Jehovah, and two bears come out of the forest, and rend of them forty and two lads.

25 V on da ging er auf den Berg Karmel und kehrte um von da gen Samaria.

And he goeth thence unto the hill of Carmel, and thence he hath turned back to Samaria.
