1 U nd Mose gebot samt den Ältesten Israels dem Volk und sprach: Haltet alle Gebote, die ich euch heute gebiete.

`And Moses -- the elders of Israel also -- commandeth the people, saying, Keep all the command which I am commanding you to-day;

2 U nd zu der Zeit, wenn ihr über den Jordan geht in das Land, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, geben wird, sollst du große Steine aufrichten und sie mit Kalk tünchen

and it hath been, in the day that ye pass over the Jordan unto the land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee, that thou hast raised up for thee great stones, and plaistered them with plaister,

3 u nd darauf schreiben alle Worte dieses Gesetzes, wenn du hinüberkommst, auf daß du kommst in das Land, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir geben wird, ein Land darin Milch und Honig fließt, wie der HERR, deiner Väter Gott, dir verheißen hat.

and written on them all the words of this law in thy passing over, so that thou goest in unto the land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee.

4 W enn ihr nun über den Jordan geht, so sollt ihr solche Steine aufrichten (davon ich euch heute gebiete) auf dem Berge Ebal und mit Kalk tünchen.

`And it hath been, in your passing over the Jordan, ye raise up these stones which I am commanding you to-day, in mount Ebal, and thou hast plaistered them with plaister,

5 U nd sollst daselbst dem HERRN, deinem Gott, einen steinernen Altar bauen, darüber kein Eisen fährt.

and built there an altar to Jehovah thy God, an altar of stones, thou dost not wave over them iron.

6 V on ganzen Steinen sollst du diesen Altar dem HERRN, deinem Gott, bauen und Brandopfer darauf opfern dem HERRN, deinem Gott.

Of complete stones thou buildest the altar of Jehovah thy God, and hast caused to ascend on it burnt-offerings to Jehovah thy God,

7 U nd sollst Dankopfer opfern und daselbst essen und fröhlich sein vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott.

and sacrificed peace-offerings, and eaten there, and rejoiced before Jehovah thy God,

8 U nd sollst auf die Steine alle Worte dieses Gesetzes schreiben, klar und deutlich.

and written on the stones all the words of this law, well engraved.'

9 U nd Mose und die Priester, die Leviten, redeten mit ganz Israel und sprachen: Merke und höre zu, Israel! Heute, dieses Tages, bist du ein Volk des HERRN, deines Gottes, geworden,

And Moses speaketh -- the priests, the Levites, also -- unto all Israel, saying, `Keep silent, and hear, O Israel, this day thou hast become a people to Jehovah thy God;

10 d aß du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehorsam seist und tust nach seinen Geboten und Rechten, die ich dir heute gebiete.

and thou hast hearkened to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and done His commands, and His statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day.'

11 U nd Mose gebot dem Volk desselben Tages und sprach:

And Moses commandeth the people on that day, saying,

12 D iese sollen stehen auf dem Berge Garizim, zu segnen das Volk, wenn ihr über den Jordan gegangen seid; Simeon, Levi, Juda, Isaschar, Joseph und Benjamin.

`These do stand, to bless the people, on mount Gerizzim, in your passing over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin.

13 U nd diese sollen stehen auf dem Berge Ebal, zu fluchen Ruben, Gad, Asser, Sebulon, Dan und Naphthali.

And these do stand, for the reviling, on mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

14 U nd die Leviten sollen anheben und sagen zu jedermann von Israel mit lauter Stimme:

`And the Levites have answered and said unto every man of Israel -- a loud voice:

15 V erflucht sei, wer einen Götzen oder ein gegossenes Bild macht, einen Greuel des HERRN, ein Werk von den Händen der Werkmeister, und stellt es verborgen auf! Und alles Volk soll antworten und sagen: Amen.

`Cursed the man who maketh a graven and molten image, the abomination of Jehovah, work of the hands of an artificer, and hath put in a secret place, -- and all the people have answered and said, Amen.

16 V erflucht sei, wer seinen Vater oder seine Mutter unehrt! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed He who is making light of his father and his mother, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

17 V erflucht sei wer seines Nächsten Grenze verengert! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is removing his neighbour's border, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

18 V erflucht sei, wer einen Blinden irren macht auf dem Wege! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is causing the blind to err in the way, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

19 V erflucht sei, wer das Recht des Fremdlings, des Waisen und der Witwe beugt! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is turning aside the judgment of fatherless, sojourner, and widow, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

20 V erflucht sei, wer bei seines Vaters Weibe liegt, daß er aufdecke die Decke seines Vaters! und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is lying with his father's wife, for he hath uncovered his father's skirt, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

21 V erflucht sei wer irgend bei einem Vieh liegt! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is lying with any beast, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

22 V erflucht sei, wer bei seiner Schwester liegt, die seines Vaters oder seiner Mutter Tochter ist! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is lying with his sister, daughter of his father, or daughter of his mother, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

23 V erflucht sei, wer bei seiner Schwiegermutter liegt! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is lying with his mother-in-law, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

24 V erflucht sei, wer seinen Nächsten heimlich erschlägt! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is smiting his neighbour in secret, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

25 V erflucht sei, wer Geschenke nimmt, daß er unschuldiges Blut vergießt! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who is taking a bribe to smite a person, innocent blood, -- and all the people have said, Amen.

26 V erflucht sei, wer nicht alle Worte dieses Gesetzes erfüllt, daß er darnach tue! Und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen.

`Cursed he who doth not establish the words of this law, to do them, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
