1 U nd Salomo verschwägerte sich mit Pharao, dem König in Ägypten und nahm Pharaos Tochter und brachte sie in die Stadt Davids, bis er ausbaute sein Haus und des HERRN Haus und die Mauer um Jerusalem her.

And Solomon joineth in marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and taketh the daughter of Pharaoh, and bringeth her in unto the city of David, till he completeth to build his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

2 A ber das Volk opferte noch auf den Höhen; denn es war noch kein Haus gebaut dem Namen des HERRN bis auf die Zeit.

Only, the people are sacrificing in high places, for there hath not been built a house for the name of Jehovah till those days.

3 S alomo aber hatte den HERRN lieb und wandelte nach den Sitten seines Vaters David, nur daß er auf den Höhen opferte und räucherte.

And Solomon loveth Jehovah, to walk in the statutes of David his father -- only, in high places he is sacrificing and making perfume --

4 U nd der König ging hin gen Gibeon daselbst zu opfern; denn das war die vornehmste Höhe. Und Salomo opferte tausend Brandopfer auf demselben Altar.

and the king goeth to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for it the great high place; a thousand burnt-offerings cause to ascend doth Solomon on that altar.

5 U nd der HERR erschien Salomo zu Gibeon im Traum des Nachts, und Gott sprach: Bitte, was ich dir geben soll!

In Gibeon hath Jehovah appeared unto Solomon, in a dream of the night, and God saith, `Ask -- what do I give to thee?'

6 S alomo sprach: Du hast an meinem Vater David, deinem Knecht, große Barmherzigkeit getan, wie er denn vor dir gewandelt ist in Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit und mit richtigem Herzen vor dir, und hast ihm diese große Barmherzigkeit gehalten und ihm einen Sohn gegeben, der auf seinem Stuhl säße, wie es denn jetzt geht.

And Solomon saith, `Thou hast done with Thy servant David my father great kindness, as he walked before Thee in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee, and Thou dost keep for him this great kindness, and dost give to him a son sitting on his throne, as this day.

7 N un, HERR, mein Gott, du hast deinen Knecht zum König gemacht an meines Vaters David Statt. So bin ich ein junger Knabe, weiß weder meinen Ausgang noch Eingang.

And now, O Jehovah my God, Thou hast caused thy servant to reign instead of David my father; and I a little child, I do not know to go out and to come in;

8 U nd dein Knecht ist unter dem Volk, das du erwählt hast, einem Volke, so groß das es niemand zählen noch beschreiben kann vor der Menge.

and Thy servant in the midst of thy people, whom Thou hast chosen, a people numerous, that is not numbered nor counted for multitude,

9 S o wollest du deinem Knecht geben ein gehorsames Herz, daß er dein Volk richten möge und verstehen, was gut und böse ist. Denn wer vermag dies dein mächtiges Volk zu richten?

and Thou hast given to Thy servant an understanding heart, to judge Thy people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this Thy great people?'

10 D as gefiel dem HERRN wohl, daß Salomo um ein solches bat.

And the thing is good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon hath asked this thing,

11 U nd Gott sprach zu ihm: Weil du solches bittest und bittest nicht um langes Leben noch um Reichtum noch um deiner Feinde Seele, sondern um Verstand, Gericht zu hören,

and God saith unto him, `Because that thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thee many days, nor asked for thee riches, nor asked the life of thine enemies, and hast asked for thee discernment to understand judgment,

12 s iehe, so habe ich getan nach deinen Worten. Siehe, ich habe dir ein weises und verständiges Herz gegeben, daß deinesgleichen vor dir nicht gewesen ist und nach dir nicht aufkommen wird.

lo, I have done according to thy words; lo, I have given to thee a heart, wise and understanding, that like thee there hath not been before thee, and after thee there doth not arise like thee;

13 D azu, was du nicht gebeten hast, habe ich dir auch gegeben, sowohl Reichtum als Ehre, daß deinesgleichen keiner unter den Königen ist zu deinen Zeiten.

and also, that which thou hast not asked I have given to thee, both riches and honour, that there hath not been like thee a man among the kings all thy days;

14 U nd so du wirst in meinen Wegen wandeln, daß du hältst meine Sitten und Gebote, wie dein Vater David gewandelt hat, so will ich dir geben ein langes Leben.

and if thou dost walk in My ways to keep My statutes, and My commands, as David thy father walked, then I have prolonged thy days.'

15 U nd da Salomo erwachte, siehe, da war es ein Traum. Und er kam gen Jerusalem und trat vor die Lade des Bundes des HERRN und opferte Brandopfer und Dankopfer und machte ein großes Mahl allen seinen Knechten.

And Solomon awaketh, and lo, a dream; and he cometh in to Jerusalem, and standeth before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings, and maketh peace-offerings. And he maketh a banquet for all his servants,

16 Z u der Zeit kamen zwei Huren zum König und traten vor ihn.

then come in do two women, harlots, unto the king, and stand before him,

17 U nd das eine Weib sprach: Ach, mein Herr, ich und dies Weib wohnten in einem Hause, und ich gebar bei ihr im Hause.

and the one woman saith, `O, my lord, I and this woman are dwelling in one house, and I bring forth with her, in the house;

18 U nd über drei Tage, da ich geboren hatte, gebar sie auch. Und wir waren beieinander, daß kein Fremder mit uns war im Hause, nur wir beide.

and it cometh to pass on the third day of my bringing forth, that this woman also bringeth forth, and we together, there is no stranger with us in the house, save we two, in the house.

19 U nd dieses Weibes Sohn starb in der Nacht; denn sie hatte ihn im Schlaf erdrückt.

And the son of this woman dieth at night, because she hath lain upon it,

20 U nd sie stand in der Nacht auf und nahm meinen Sohn von meiner Seite, da deine Magd schlief, und legte ihn an ihren Arm, und ihren toten Sohn legte sie an meinen Arm.

and she riseth in the middle of the night, and taketh my son from beside me -- and thy handmaid is asleep -- and layeth it in her bosom, and her dead son she hath laid in my bosom;

21 U nd da ich des Morgens aufstand, meinen Sohn zu säugen, siehe, da war er tot. Aber am Morgen sah ich ihn genau an, und siehe, es war nicht mein Sohn, den ich geboren hatte.

and I rise in the morning to suckle my son, and lo, dead; and I consider concerning it in the morning, and lo, it was not my son whom I did bear.'

22 D as andere Weib sprach: Nicht also; mein Sohn lebt, und dein Sohn ist tot. Jene aber sprach: Nicht also; dein Sohn ist tot, und mein Sohn lebt. Und redeten also vor dem König.

And the other woman saith, `Nay, but my son the living, and thy son the dead;' and this saith, `Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.' And they speak before the king.

23 U nd der König sprach: Diese spricht: mein Sohn lebt, und dein Sohn ist tot; jene spricht: Nicht also; dein Sohn ist tot, und mein Sohn lebt.

And the king saith, `This saith, This my son, the living, and thy son the dead; and that saith, Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.'

24 U nd der König sprach: Holet mir ein Schwert her! und da das Schwert vor den König gebracht ward,

And the king saith, `Take for me a sword;' and they bring the sword before the king,

25 s prach der König: Teilt das lebendige Kind in zwei Teile und gebt dieser die Hälfte und jener die Hälfte.

and the king saith, `Cut the living child into two, and give the half to the one, and the half to the other.'

26 D a sprach das Weib, des Sohn lebte, zum König (denn ihr mütterliches Herz entbrannte über ihren Sohn): Ach, mein Herr, gebt ihr das Kind lebendig und tötet es nicht! Jene aber sprach: Es sei weder mein noch dein; laßt es teilen!

And the woman whose son the living one saith unto the king (for her bowels yearned over her son), yea, she saith, `O, my lord, give to her the living child, and put it not at all to death;' and this saith, `Let it be neither mine or thine -- cut.'

27 D a antwortete der König und sprach: Gebet dieser das Kind lebendig und tötet es nicht; die ist seine Mutter.

And the king answereth and saith, `Give ye to her the living child, and put it not at all to death; she its mother.'

28 U nd das Urteil, das der König gefällt hatte, erscholl vor dem ganzen Israel, und sie fürchteten sich vor dem König; denn sie sahen, daß die Weisheit Gottes in ihm war, Gericht zu halten.

And all Israel hear of the judgment that the king hath judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God in his heart, to do judgment.
