1 S alomón se emparentó con Faraón, rey de Egipto, pues tomó la hija de Faraón y la trajo a la ciudad de David mientras acababa de edificar su casa, la casa del Señor y la muralla alrededor de Jerusalén.

And Solomon joineth in marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and taketh the daughter of Pharaoh, and bringeth her in unto the city of David, till he completeth to build his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

2 S ólo que el pueblo sacrificaba en los lugares altos, porque en aquellos días aún no se había edificado casa al nombre del Señor. Sabiduría de Salomón

Only, the people are sacrificing in high places, for there hath not been built a house for the name of Jehovah till those days.

3 S alomón amaba al Señor, andando en los estatutos de su padre David, aunque sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.

And Solomon loveth Jehovah, to walk in the statutes of David his father -- only, in high places he is sacrificing and making perfume --

4 E l rey fue a Gabaón a sacrificar allí, porque ese era el lugar alto principal. Salomón ofreció mil holocaustos sobre ese altar.

and the king goeth to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for it the great high place; a thousand burnt-offerings cause to ascend doth Solomon on that altar.

5 Y en Gabaón el Señor se apareció a Salomón de noche en sueños, y Dios le dijo: Pide lo que quieras que yo te dé.

In Gibeon hath Jehovah appeared unto Solomon, in a dream of the night, and God saith, `Ask -- what do I give to thee?'

6 E ntonces Salomón dijo: Tú has usado de gran misericordia con tu siervo David mi padre, según él anduvo delante de ti con fidelidad, justicia y rectitud de corazón hacia ti; y has guardado para él esta gran misericordia, en que le has dado un hijo que se siente en su trono, como sucede hoy.

And Solomon saith, `Thou hast done with Thy servant David my father great kindness, as he walked before Thee in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee, and Thou dost keep for him this great kindness, and dost give to him a son sitting on his throne, as this day.

7 Y ahora, Señor Dios mío, has hecho a tu siervo rey en lugar de mi padre David, aunque soy un muchacho y no sé cómo salir ni entrar.

And now, O Jehovah my God, Thou hast caused thy servant to reign instead of David my father; and I a little child, I do not know to go out and to come in;

8 T u siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual escogiste, un pueblo inmenso que no se puede numerar ni contar por su multitud.

and Thy servant in the midst of thy people, whom Thou hast chosen, a people numerous, that is not numbered nor counted for multitude,

9 D a, pues, a tu siervo un corazón con entendimiento para juzgar a tu pueblo y para discernir entre el bien y el mal. Pues ¿quién será capaz de juzgar a este pueblo tuyo tan grande ?

and Thou hast given to Thy servant an understanding heart, to judge Thy people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this Thy great people?'

10 Y fue del agrado a los ojos del Señor que Salomón pidiera esto.

And the thing is good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon hath asked this thing,

11 Y Dios le dijo: Porque has pedido esto y no has pedido para ti larga vida, ni has pedido para ti riquezas, ni has pedido la vida de tus enemigos, sino que has pedido para ti inteligencia para administrar justicia,

and God saith unto him, `Because that thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thee many days, nor asked for thee riches, nor asked the life of thine enemies, and hast asked for thee discernment to understand judgment,

12 h e aquí, he hecho conforme a tus palabras. He aquí, te he dado un corazón sabio y entendido, de modo que no ha habido ninguno como tú antes de ti, ni se levantará ninguno como tú después de ti.

lo, I have done according to thy words; lo, I have given to thee a heart, wise and understanding, that like thee there hath not been before thee, and after thee there doth not arise like thee;

13 T ambién te he dado lo que no has pedido, tanto riquezas como gloria, de modo que no habrá entre los reyes ninguno como tú en todos tus días.

and also, that which thou hast not asked I have given to thee, both riches and honour, that there hath not been like thee a man among the kings all thy days;

14 Y si andas en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos como tu padre David anduvo, entonces prolongaré tus días.

and if thou dost walk in My ways to keep My statutes, and My commands, as David thy father walked, then I have prolonged thy days.'

15 S alomón se despertó y vio que había sido un sueño. Entró en Jerusalén y se puso delante del arca del pacto del Señor; ofreció holocaustos e hizo ofrendas de paz, y también dio un banquete para todos sus siervos.

And Solomon awaketh, and lo, a dream; and he cometh in to Jerusalem, and standeth before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings, and maketh peace-offerings. And he maketh a banquet for all his servants,

16 P or ese tiempo dos mujeres que eran rameras, vinieron al rey y se presentaron delante de él.

then come in do two women, harlots, unto the king, and stand before him,

17 Y una de las mujeres dijo: Oh, mi señor, yo y esta mujer vivimos en la misma casa; y yo di a luz estando con ella en la casa.

and the one woman saith, `O, my lord, I and this woman are dwelling in one house, and I bring forth with her, in the house;

18 Y sucedió que al tercer día después de dar yo a luz, esta mujer también dio a luz; estábamos juntas, nadie de fuera estaba con nosotras en la casa, solamente nosotras dos.

and it cometh to pass on the third day of my bringing forth, that this woman also bringeth forth, and we together, there is no stranger with us in the house, save we two, in the house.

19 Y el hijo de esta mujer murió durante la noche, porque ella se durmió sobre él.

And the son of this woman dieth at night, because she hath lain upon it,

20 E ntonces ella se levantó a medianoche, tomó a mi hijo de mi lado mientras tu sierva estaba dormida y lo puso en su regazo, y a su hijo muerto lo puso en mi regazo.

and she riseth in the middle of the night, and taketh my son from beside me -- and thy handmaid is asleep -- and layeth it in her bosom, and her dead son she hath laid in my bosom;

21 C uando me levanté al amanecer para dar el pecho a mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto; pero cuando lo observé con cuidado por la mañana, vi que no era mi hijo, el que yo había dado a luz.

and I rise in the morning to suckle my son, and lo, dead; and I consider concerning it in the morning, and lo, it was not my son whom I did bear.'

22 E ntonces la otra mujer dijo: No, pues mi hijo es el que vive y tu hijo es el muerto. Pero la primera mujer dijo: No, tu hijo es el muerto y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban ellas delante del rey.

And the other woman saith, `Nay, but my son the living, and thy son the dead;' and this saith, `Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.' And they speak before the king.

23 E ntonces el rey dijo: Esta dice: “Este es mi hijo que está vivo y tu hijo es el muerto”; y la otra dice: “No, porque tu hijo es el muerto y mi hijo es el que vive.”

And the king saith, `This saith, This my son, the living, and thy son the dead; and that saith, Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.'

24 Y el rey dijo: Traedme una espada. Y trajeron una espada al rey.

And the king saith, `Take for me a sword;' and they bring the sword before the king,

25 E ntonces el rey dijo: Partid al niño vivo en dos, y dad la mitad a una y la otra mitad a la otra.

and the king saith, `Cut the living child into two, and give the half to the one, and the half to the other.'

26 E ntonces la mujer de quien era el niño vivo habló al rey, pues estaba profundamente conmovida por su hijo, y dijo: Oh, mi señor, dale a ella el niño vivo, y de ninguna manera lo mates. Pero la otra decía: No será ni mío ni tuyo; partid lo.

And the woman whose son the living one saith unto the king (for her bowels yearned over her son), yea, she saith, `O, my lord, give to her the living child, and put it not at all to death;' and this saith, `Let it be neither mine or thine -- cut.'

27 E ntonces el rey respondió y dijo: Dad el niño vivo a la primera mujer, y de ninguna manera lo matéis. Ella es la madre.

And the king answereth and saith, `Give ye to her the living child, and put it not at all to death; she its mother.'

28 C uando todo Israel oyó del juicio que el rey había pronunciado, temieron al rey, porque vieron que la sabiduría de Dios estaba en él para administrar justicia.

And all Israel hear of the judgment that the king hath judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God in his heart, to do judgment.
