1 D espués de pasar por Anfípolis y Apolonia, llegaron a Tesalónica, donde había una sinagoga de los judíos.

And having passed through Amphipolis, and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was the synagogue of the Jews,

2 Y Pablo, según su costumbre, fue a ellos y por tres días de reposo discutió con ellos basándose en las Escrituras,

and according to the custom of Paul, he went in unto them, and for three sabbaths he was reasoning with them from the Writings,

3 e xplicando y presentando evidencia de que era necesario que el Cristo padeciera y resucitara de entre los muertos, y diciendo: Este Jesús, a quien yo os anuncio, es el Cristo.

opening and alleging, `That the Christ it behoved to suffer, and to rise again out of the dead, and that this is the Christ -- Jesus whom I proclaim to you.'

4 A lgunos de ellos creyeron, y se unieron a Pablo y a Silas, juntamente con una gran multitud de griegos temerosos de Dios y muchas de las mujeres principales.

And certain of them did believe, and attached themselves to Paul and to Silas, also of the worshipping Greeks a great multitude, of the principal women also not a few.

5 P ero los judíos, llenos de envidia, llevaron algunos hombres malvados de la plaza pública, organizaron una turba y alborotaron la ciudad; y asaltando la casa de Jasón, procuraban sacarlos al pueblo.

And the unbelieving Jews, having been moved with envy, and having taken to them of the loungers certain evil men, and having made a crowd, were setting the city in an uproar; having assailed also the house of Jason, they were seeking them to bring to the populace,

6 A l no encontrarlos, arrastraron a Jasón y a algunos de los hermanos ante las autoridades de la ciudad, gritando: Esos que han trastornado al mundo han venido acá también;

and not having found them, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the city rulers, calling aloud -- `These, having put the world in commotion, are also here present,

7 y Jasón los ha recibido, y todos ellos actúan contra los decretos del César, diciendo que hay otro rey, Jesús.

whom Jason hath received; and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying another to be king -- Jesus.'

8 Y alborotaron a la multitud y a las autoridades de la ciudad que oían esto.

And they troubled the multitude and the city rulers, hearing these things,

9 P ero después de recibir una fianza de Jasón y de los otros, los soltaron. Pablo y Silas enviados a Berea

and having taking security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

10 E nseguida los hermanos enviaron de noche a Pablo y a Silas a Berea, los cuales, al llegar, fueron a la sinagoga de los judíos.

And the brethren immediately, through the night, sent forth both Paul and Silas to Berea, who having come, went to the synagogue of the Jews;

11 E stos eran más nobles que los de Tesalónica, pues recibieron la palabra con toda solicitud, escudriñando diariamente las Escrituras, para ver si estas cosas eran así.

and these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, they received the word with all readiness of mind, every day examining the Writings whether those things were so;

12 P or eso muchos de ellos creyeron, así como también un buen número de griegos, hombres y mujeres de distinción.

many, indeed, therefore, of them did believe, and of the honourable Greek women and men not a few.

13 P ero cuando los judíos de Tesalónica supieron que la palabra de Dios había sido proclamada por Pablo también en Berea, fueron también allá para agitar y alborotar a las multitudes.

And when the Jews from Thessalonica knew that also in Berea was the word of God declared by Paul, they came thither also, agitating the multitudes;

14 E ntonces los hermanos inmediatamente enviaron a Pablo para que fuera hasta el mar; pero Silas y Timoteo se quedaron allí.

and then immediately the brethren sent forth Paul, to go on as it were to the sea, but both Silas and Timothy were remaining there.

15 L os que conducían a Pablo lo llevaron hasta Atenas; y después de recibir órdenes de que Silas y Timoteo se unieran a él lo más pronto posible, partieron. Pablo en Atenas

And those conducting Paul, brought him unto Athens, and having received a command unto Silas and Timotheus that with all speed they may come unto him, they departed;

16 M ientras Pablo los esperaba en Atenas, su espíritu se enardecía dentro de él al contemplar la ciudad llena de ídolos.

and Paul waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, beholding the city wholly given to idolatry,

17 A sí que discutía en la sinagoga con los judíos y con los gentiles temerosos de Dios, y diariamente en la plaza con los que estuvieran presentes.

therefore, indeed, he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the worshipping persons, and in the market-place every day with those who met with him.

18 T ambién disputaban con él algunos de los filósofos epicúreos y estoicos. Y algunos decían: ¿Qué quiere decir este palabrero ? Y otros: Parece ser un predicador de divinidades extrañas —porque les predicaba a Jesús y la resurrección.

And certain of the Epicurean and of the Stoic philosophers, were meeting together to see him, and some were saying, `What would this seed picker wish to say?' and others, `Of strange demons he doth seem to be an announcer;' because Jesus and the rising again he did proclaim to them as good news,

19 L o tomaron y lo llevaron al Areópago, diciendo: ¿Podemos saber qué es esta nueva enseñanza que proclamas ?

having also taken him, unto the Areopagus they brought, saying, `Are we able to know what this new teaching that is spoken by thee,

20 P orque te oímos decir cosas extrañas; por tanto, queremos saber qué significan.

for certain strange things thou dost bring to our ears? we wish, then, to know what these things would wish to be;'

21 ( Pues todos los atenienses y los extranjeros de visita allí, no pasaban el tiempo en otra cosa sino en decir o en oír algo nuevo.)

and all Athenians, and the strangers sojourning, for nothing else were at leisure but to say something, and to hear some newer thing.

22 E ntonces Pablo poniéndose en pie en medio del Areópago, dijo: Varones atenienses, percibo que sois muy religiosos en todo sentido.

And Paul, having stood in the midst of the Areopagus, said, `Men, Athenians, in all things I perceive you as over-religious;

23 P orque mientras pasaba y observaba los objetos de vuestra adoración, hallé también un altar con esta inscripción: AL DIOS DESCONOCIDO. Pues lo que vosotros adoráis sin conocer, eso os anuncio yo.

for passing through and contemplating your objects of worship, I found also an erection on which had been inscribed: To God -- unknown; whom, therefore -- not knowing -- ye do worship, this One I announce to you.

24 E l Dios que hizo el mundo y todo lo que en él hay, puesto que es Señor del cielo y de la tierra, no mora en templos hechos por manos de hombres,

`God, who did make the world, and all things in it, this One, of heaven and of earth being Lord, in temples made with hands doth not dwell,

25 n i es servido por manos humanas, como si necesitara de algo, puesto que El da a todos vida y aliento y todas las cosas;

neither by the hands of men is He served -- needing anything, He giving to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 y de uno hizo todas las naciones del mundo para que habitaran sobre toda la faz de la tierra, habiendo determinado sus tiempos señalados y los límites de su habitación,

He made also of one blood every nation of men, to dwell upon all the face of the earth -- having ordained times before appointed, and the bounds of their dwellings --

27 p ara que buscaran a Dios, si de alguna manera, palpando, le hallen, aunque no está lejos de ninguno de nosotros;

to seek the Lord, if perhaps they did feel after Him and find, -- though, indeed, He is not far from each one of us,

28 p orque en El vivimos, nos movemos y existimos, así como algunos de vuestros mismos poetas han dicho: “Porque también nosotros somos linaje suyo.”

for in Him we live, and move, and are; as also certain of your poets have said: For of Him also we are offspring.

29 S iendo, pues, linaje de Dios, no debemos pensar que la naturaleza divina sea semejante a oro, plata o piedra, esculpidos por el arte y el pensamiento humano.

`Being, therefore, offspring of God, we ought not to think the Godhead to be like to gold, or silver, or stone, graving of art and device of man;

30 P or tanto, habiendo pasado por alto los tiempos de ignorancia, Dios declara ahora a todos los hombres, en todas partes, que se arrepientan,

the times, indeed, therefore, of the ignorance God having overlooked, doth now command all men everywhere to reform,

31 p orque El ha establecido un día en el cual juzgará al mundo en justicia, por medio de un Hombre a quien ha designado, habiendo presentado pruebas a todos los hombres al resucitarle de entre los muertos.

because He did set a day in which He is about to judge the world in righteousness, by a man whom He did ordain, having given assurance to all, having raised him out of the dead.'

32 Y cuando oyeron de la resurrección de los muertos, algunos se burlaban, pero otros dijeron: Te escucharemos otra vez acerca de esto.

And having heard of a rising again of the dead, some, indeed, were mocking, but others said, `We will hear thee again concerning this;'

33 E ntonces Pablo salió de entre ellos.

and so Paul went forth from the midst of them,

34 P ero algunos se unieron a él y creyeron, entre los cuales estaban Dionisio el areopagita, una mujer llamada Dámaris y otros con ellos.

and certain men having cleaved to him, did believe, among whom also Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman, by name Damaris, and others with them.
