1 M irad cuán gran amor nos ha otorgado el Padre, para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios; y eso somos. Por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no le conoció a El.

See ye what love the Father hath given to us, that children of God we may be called; because of this the world doth not know us, because it did not know Him;

2 A mados, ahora somos hijos de Dios y aún no se ha manifestado lo que habremos de ser. Pero sabemos que cuando El se manifieste, seremos semejantes a El porque le veremos como El es.

beloved, now, children of God are we, and it was not yet manifested what we shall be, and we have known that if he may be manifested, like him we shall be, because we shall see him as he is;

3 Y todo el que tiene esta esperanza puesta en El, se purifica, así como El es puro.

and every one who is having this hope on him, doth purify himself, even as he is pure.

4 T odo el que practica el pecado, practica también la infracción de la ley, pues el pecado es infracción de la ley.

Every one who is doing the sin, the lawlessness also he doth do, and the sin is the lawlessness,

5 Y vosotros sabéis que El se manifestó a fin de quitar los pecados, y en El no hay pecado.

and ye have known that he was manifested that our sins he may take away, and sin is not in him;

6 T odo el que permanece en El, no peca; todo el que peca, ni le ha visto ni le ha conocido.

every one who is remaining in him doth not sin; every one who is sinning, hath not seen him, nor known him.

7 H ijos míos, que nadie os engañe; el que practica la justicia es justo, así como El es justo.

Little children, let no one lead you astray; he who is doing the righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous,

8 E l que practica el pecado es del diablo, porque el diablo ha pecado desde el principio. El Hijo de Dios se manifestó con este propósito: para destruir las obras del diablo.

he who is doing the sin, of the devil he is, because from the beginning the devil doth sin; for this was the Son of God manifested, that he may break up the works of the devil;

9 N inguno que es nacido de Dios practica el pecado, porque la simiente de Dios permanece en él; y no puede pecar, porque es nacido de Dios.

every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God he hath been begotten.

10 E n esto se reconocen los hijos de Dios y los hijos del diablo: todo aquel que no practica la justicia, no es de Dios; tampoco aquel que no ama a su hermano.

In this manifest are the children of God, and the children of the devil; every one who is not doing righteousness, is not of God, and he who is not loving his brother,

11 P orque este es el mensaje que habéis oído desde el principio: que nos amemos unos a otros;

because this is the message that ye did hear from the beginning, that we may love one another,

12 n o como Caín que era del maligno, y mató a su hermano. ¿Y por qué causa lo mató? Porque sus obras eran malas, y las de su hermano justas. Amemos de hecho, no de palabra

not as Cain -- of the evil one he was, and he did slay his brother, and wherefore did he slay him? because his works were evil, and those of his brother righteous.

13 H ermanos, no os maravilléis si el mundo os odia.

Do not wonder, my brethren, if the world doth hate you;

14 N osotros sabemos que hemos pasado de muerte a vida porque amamos a los hermanos. El que no ama permanece en muerte.

we -- we have known that we have passed out of the death to the life, because we love the brethren; he who is not loving the brother doth remain in the death.

15 T odo el que aborrece a su hermano es homicida, y vosotros sabéis que ningún homicida tiene vida eterna permanente en él.

Every one who is hating his brother -- a man-killer he is, and ye have known that no man-killer hath life age-during in him remaining,

16 E n esto conocemos el amor: en que El puso su vida por nosotros; también nosotros debemos poner nuestras vidas por los hermanos.

in this we have known the love, because he for us his life did lay down, and we ought for the brethren the lives to lay down;

17 P ero el que tiene bienes de este mundo, y ve a su hermano en necesidad y cierra su corazón contra él, ¿cómo puede morar el amor de Dios en él ?

and whoever may have the goods of the world, and may view his brother having need, and may shut up his bowels from him -- how doth the love of God remain in him?

18 H ijos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de hecho y en verdad.

My little children, may we not love in word nor in tongue, but in word and in truth!

19 E n esto sabremos que somos de la verdad, y aseguraremos nuestros corazones delante de El

and in this we know that of the truth we are, and before Him we shall assure our hearts,

20 e n cualquier cosa en que nuestro corazón nos condene; porque Dios es mayor que nuestro corazón y sabe todas las cosas.

because if our heart may condemn -- because greater is God than our heart, and He doth know all things.

21 A mados, si nuestro corazón no nos condena, confianza tenemos delante de Dios;

Beloved, if our heart may not condemn us, we have boldness toward God,

22 y todo lo que pidamos lo recibimos de El, porque guardamos sus mandamientos y hacemos las cosas que son agradables delante de El.

and whatever we may ask, we receive from Him, because His commands we keep, and the things pleasing before Him we do,

23 Y este es su mandamiento: que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, y que nos amemos unos a otros como El nos ha mandado.

and this is His command, that we may believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and may love one another, even as He did give command to us,

24 E l que guarda sus mandamientos permanece en El y Dios en él. Y en esto sabemos que El permanece en nosotros: por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.

and he who is keeping His commands, in Him he doth remain, and He in him; and in this we know that He doth remain in us, from the Spirit that He gave us.
