1 A simismo vosotras, mujeres, estad sujetas a vuestros maridos, de modo que si algunos de ellos son desobedientes a la palabra, puedan ser ganados sin palabra alguna por la conducta de sus mujeres

In like manner, the wives, be ye subject to your own husbands, that even if certain are disobedient to the word, through the conversation of the wives, without the word, they may be won,

2 a l observar vuestra conducta casta y respetuosa.

having beheld your pure behaviour in fear,

3 Y que vuestro adorno no sea externo: peinados ostentosos, joyas de oro o vestidos lujosos,

whose adorning -- let it not be that which is outward, of plaiting of hair, and of putting around of things of gold, or of putting on of garments,

4 s ino que sea el yo interno, con el adorno incorruptible de un espíritu tierno y sereno, lo cual es precioso delante de Dios.

but -- the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible thing of the meek and quiet spirit, which is, before God, of great price,

5 P orque así también se adornaban en otro tiempo las santas mujeres que esperaban en Dios, estando sujetas a sus maridos.

for thus once also the holy women who did hope on God, were adorning themselves, being subject to their own husbands,

6 A sí obedeció Sara a Abraham, llamándolo señor, y vosotras habéis llegado a ser hijas de ella, si hacéis el bien y no estáis amedrentadas por ningún temor.

as Sarah was obedient to Abraham, calling him `sir,' of whom ye did become daughters, doing good, and not fearing any terror.

7 Y vosotros, maridos, igualmente, convivid de manera comprensiva con vuestras mujeres, como con un vaso más frágil, puesto que es mujer, dándole honor como a coheredera de la gracia de la vida, para que vuestras oraciones no sean estorbadas. El secreto de la vida feliz

The husbands, in like manner, dwelling with, according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel -- to the wife -- imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.

8 E n conclusión, sed todos de un mismo sentir, compasivos, fraternales, misericordiosos y de espíritu humilde;

And finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,

9 n o devolviendo mal por mal, o insulto por insulto, sino más bien bendiciendo, porque fuisteis llamados con el propósito de heredar bendición.

not giving back evil for evil, or railing for railing, and on the contrary, blessing, having known that to this ye were called, that a blessing ye may inherit;

10 P ues El que quiere amar la vida y ver dias buenos, refrene su lengua del mal y sus labios no hablen engaño.

for `he who is willing to love life, and to see good days, let him guard his tongue from evil, and his lips -- not to speak guile;

11 A partese del mal y haga el bien; busque la paz y sigala.

let him turn aside from evil, and do good, let him seek peace and pursue it;

12 P orque los ojos del Señor estan sobre los justos, y sus oidos atentos a sus oraciones; pero el rostro del Señor esta contra los que hacen el mal. Sufriendo por la justicia

because the eyes of the Lord upon the righteous, and His ears -- to their supplication, and the face of the Lord upon those doing evil;'

13 ¿ Y quién os podrá hacer daño si demostráis tener celo por lo bueno ?

and who he who will be doing you evil, if of Him who is good ye may become imitators?

14 P ero aun si sufrís por causa de la justicia, dichosos sois. Y no os amedrenteis por temor a ellos ni os turbeis,

but if ye also should suffer because of righteousness, happy! and of their fear be not afraid, nor be troubled,

15 s ino santificad a Cristo como Señor en vuestros corazones, estando siempre preparados para presentar defensa ante todo el que os demande razón de la esperanza que hay en vosotros, pero hacedlo con mansedumbre y reverencia;

and the Lord God sanctify in your hearts. And ready always for defence to every one who is asking of you an account concerning the hope that in you, with meekness and fear;

16 t eniendo buena conciencia, para que en aquello en que sois calumniados, sean avergonzados los que difaman vuestra buena conducta en Cristo.

having a good conscience, that in that in which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who are traducing your good behaviour in Christ;

17 P ues es mejor padecer por hacer el bien, si así es la voluntad de Dios, que por hacer el mal.

for better doing good, if the will of God will it, to suffer, than doing evil;

18 P orque también Cristo murió por los pecados una sola vez, el justo por los injustos, para llevarnos a Dios, muerto en la carne pero vivificado en el espíritu;

because also Christ once for sin did suffer -- righteous for unrighteous -- that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit,

19 e n el cual también fue y predicó a los espíritus encarcelados,

in which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach,

20 q uienes en otro tiempo fueron desobedientes cuando la paciencia de Dios esperaba en los días de Noé, durante la construcción del arca, en la cual unos pocos, es decir, ocho personas, fueron salvadas por medio del agua.

who sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah -- an ark being preparing -- in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;

21 Y correspondiendo a esto, el bautismo ahora os salva (no quitando la suciedad de la carne, sino como una petición a Dios de una buena conciencia ) mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo,

also to which an antitype doth now save us -- baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God,) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,

22 q uien está a la diestra de Dios, habiendo subido al cielo después de que le habían sido sometidos ángeles, autoridades y potestades.

who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven -- messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.
