1 Y Sedequías, hijo de Josías, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había hecho rey en la tierra de Judá, reinó en lugar de Conías, hijo de Joacim.

And reign doth king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,

2 P ero ni él, ni sus siervos, ni el pueblo de la tierra escucharon las palabras que el Señor había hablado por medio del profeta Jeremías.

and he hath not hearkened, he, and his servants, and the people of the land, unto the words of Jehovah, that He spake by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.

3 Y el rey Sedequías envió a Jucal, hijo de Selemías, y al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, a decir al profeta Jeremías: Ruega ahora por nosotros al Señor nuestro Dios.

And Zedekiah the king sendeth Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Pray, we beseech thee, for us unto Jehovah our God.'

4 Y Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque todavía no lo habían puesto en la cárcel.

And Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people, (and they have not put him in the prison-house),

5 E ntretanto, el ejército de Faraón había salido de Egipto, y cuando los caldeos que tenían sitiada a Jerusalén oyeron la noticia acerca de ellos, levantaron el sitio de Jerusalén.

and the force of Pharaoh hath come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against Jerusalem, hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.

6 E ntonces vino la palabra del Señor al profeta Jeremías, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

7 A sí dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Así diréis al rey de Judá, que os envió a mí para consultarme: ‘He aquí, el ejército de Faraón que salió en vuestra ayuda, volverá a su tierra de Egipto.

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Thus do ye say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me: Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help hath turned back to its land, to Egypt,

8 ‘ Y volverán los caldeos y pelearán contra esta ciudad, la capturarán y le prenderán fuego.’”

and the Chaldeans have turned back, and fought against this city, and captured it, and burnt it with fire.

9 A sí dice el Señor: “No os engañéis, diciendo: ‘Ciertamente los caldeos se apartarán de nosotros’, porque no se apartarán.

`Thus said Jehovah: Lift not up your souls saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;

10 “ Pues aunque hubierais derrotado a todo el ejército de los caldeos que peleaba contra vosotros, y sólo quedaran heridos entre ellos, se levantaría cada uno en su tienda, y prenderían fuego a esta ciudad.”

for though ye had smitten all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men -- each in his tent -- they rise, and have burnt this city with fire.'

11 Y sucedió que cuando el ejército de los caldeos levantó el sitio de Jerusalén por causa del ejército de Faraón,

And it hath come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,

12 J eremías salió de Jerusalén para ir a la tierra de Benjamín a tomar allí posesión de una propiedad en el pueblo.

that Jeremiah goeth out from Jerusalem to go the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion thence in the midst of the people.

13 E stando él a la puerta de Benjamín, había allí un capitán de la guardia que se llamaba Irías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Hananías, el cual apresó al profeta Jeremías, diciendo: Tú vas a pasarte a los caldeos.

And it cometh to pass, he is at the gate of Benjamin, and there a master of the ward -- and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah -- and he catcheth Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Unto the Chaldeans thou art falling.'

14 P ero Jeremías dijo: ¡No es verdad! No voy a pasarme a los caldeos. Sin embargo él no le hizo caso. Apresó, pues, Irías a Jeremías y lo llevó a los oficiales.

And Jeremiah saith, `Falsehood -- I am not falling unto the Chaldeans;' and he hath not hearkened unto him, and Irijah layeth hold on Jeremiah, and bringeth him in unto the heads,

15 Y los oficiales se enojaron contra Jeremías y lo azotaron, y lo encarcelaron en la casa del escriba Jonatán, la cual habían convertido en prisión.

and the heads are wroth against Jeremiah, and have smitten him, and put him in the prison-house -- the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it they had made for a prison-house.

16 E ntró, pues, Jeremías en el calabozo, es decir, en la celda abovedada; allí permaneció Jeremías muchos días.

When Jeremiah hath entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwelleth there many days,

17 Y el rey Sedequías envió a sacarlo, y en su palacio el rey le preguntó secretamente, y le dijo: ¿Hay palabra del Señor ? Y Jeremías respondió: La hay. Y añadió: En manos del rey de Babilonia serás entregado.

and the king Zedekiah sendeth, and taketh him, and the king asketh him in his house in secret, and saith, `Is there a word from Jehovah?' And Jeremiah saith, `There is,' and he saith, `Into the hand of the king of Babylon thou art given.'

18 D ijo también Jeremías al rey Sedequías: ¿ En qué he pecado contra ti, o contra tus siervos, o contra este pueblo para que me hayas puesto en prisión?

And Jeremiah saith unto the king Zedekiah, `What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have given me unto a prison-house?

19 ¿ Dónde, pues, están vuestros profetas que os profetizaban, diciendo: “El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra vosotros, ni contra esta tierra”?

And where your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon doth not come in against you, and against this land?

20 M as ahora, te ruego que escuches, oh rey mi señor; venga ahora mi súplica delante de ti, y no me hagas volver a la casa del escriba Jonatán, no sea que muera yo allí.

And now, hearken, I pray thee, my lord, O king, let my supplication fall, I pray thee, before thee, and cause me not to return the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I die not there.'

21 E ntonces el rey Sedequías ordenó que pusieran a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia y le dieran una torta de pan al día de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que se acabara todo el pan en la ciudad. Y permaneció Jeremías en el patio de la guardia.

And the king Zedekiah commandeth, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give to him a cake of bread daily from the bakers' street, till the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwelleth in the court of the prison.
