1 T oda la tierra hablaba la misma lengua y las mismas palabras.

And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,

2 Y aconteció que según iban hacia el oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar, y se establecieron allí.

and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;

3 Y se dijeron unos a otros: Vamos, fabriquemos ladrillos y cozámos los bien. Y usaron ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

and they say each one to his neighbour, `Give help, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.

4 Y dijeron: Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue hasta los cielos, y hagámonos un nombre famoso, para que no seamos dispersados sobre la faz de toda la tierra.

And they say, `Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'

5 Y el Señor descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que habían edificado los hijos de los hombres.

And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;

6 Y dijo el Señor: He aquí, son un solo pueblo y todos ellos tienen la misma lengua. Y esto es lo que han comenzado a hacer, y ahora nada de lo que se propongan hacer les será imposible.

and Jehovah saith, `Lo, the people one, and one pronunciation to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.

7 V amos, bajemos y allí confundamos su lengua, para que nadie entienda el lenguaje del otro.

Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'

8 A sí los dispersó el Señor desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;

9 P or eso fue llamada Babel, porque allí confundió el Señor la lengua de toda la tierra; y de allí los dispersó el Señor sobre la faz de toda la tierra. Descendientes de Sem

therefore hath called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.

10 E stas son las generaciones de Sem: Sem tenía cien años, y engendró a Arfaxad dos años después del diluvio.

These births of Shem: Shem a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.

11 Y vivió Sem quinientos años después de haber engendrado a Arfaxad, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

12 A rfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sala.

And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.

13 Y vivió Arfaxad cuatrocientos tres años después de haber engendrado a Sala, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

14 S ala vivió treinta años, y engendró a Heber.

And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.

15 Y vivió Sala cuatrocientos tres años después de haber engendrado a Heber, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

16 H eber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.

17 Y vivió Heber cuatrocientos treinta años después de haber engendrado a Peleg, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

18 P eleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.

19 Y vivió Peleg doscientos nueve años después de haber engendrado a Reu, y tuvo hijos e hijas.

And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

20 R eu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.

21 Y vivió Reu doscientos siete años después de haber engendrado a Serug, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

22 S erug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Nacor.

And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.

23 Y vivió Serug doscientos años después de haber engendrado a Nacor, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

24 N acor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Taré.

And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.

25 Y vivió Nacor ciento diecinueve años después de haber engendrado a Taré, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

26 T aré vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Descendientes de Taré

And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 E stas son las generaciones de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán; y Harán engendró a Lot.

And these births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;

28 Y murió Harán en presencia de su padre Taré en la tierra de su nacimiento, en Ur de los caldeos.

and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 Y Abram y Nacor tomaron para sí mujeres. El nombre de la mujer de Abram era Sarai, y el nombre de la mujer de Nacor, Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.

And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.

30 Y Sarai era estéril; no tenía hijo.

And Sarai is barren -- she hath no child.

31 Y Taré tomó a Abram su hijo, a su nieto Lot, hijo de Harán, y a Sarai su nuera, mujer de su hijo Abram; y salieron juntos de Ur de los caldeos, en dirección a la tierra de Canaán; y llegaron hasta Harán, y se establecieron allí.

And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.

32 L os días de Taré fueron doscientos cinco años; y murió Taré en Harán.

And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
